China Dragon JNL was inspired by a vintage letterpress logo cut on sale in an online auction. The logo for The China Dragon restaurant (presumably from the 1950s or 1960s) had a wonderfully eclectic hand-lettered look. Some of the original characters were modified slightly to conform with the ones created for the remainder of the typeface, but the original styling remains intact. The unique design of this font allows it to adapt well to Art Nouveau or Mideastern project styles. In January of 2006, Jeff Levine Fonts started with just ten designs. A little more than seven years later, in April, 2013 the release of China Dragon is the 700th font added to this ever-growing library.

Hot Salsa is a calligraphic script font inspired by the classic, fairly well-made brush letters from the casual sign painting style, mixed with the fast and gestural tags you can find on walls all around the world. I got rhythm, I got music, I got my swirls, who could ask for anything more? Periplus is quite an eccentric type, full of twists and nice oddities here and there. It is an all-caps font with 2 variations for each letter and number, stored at upper- and lower-case slots. For added amusement, every letter got not 1 or 2, but 4 swash variations. One can be reached through the OpenType swash feature: just select the letter and hit the swash button. The other ones you will access through a glyphs palette. All of them are neatly organized with the 'access all alternates' feature. The font is yet equipped with some stylistic alternates and ornaments. Have fun!

Aeronic is a work of love. I stumbled upon a fantastic Japanese poster for Nikke Coat by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907 - 1981). Gihachiro Okuyama (also: Okayama) was a very prolific Japanese print artist who started his career making woodblock prints, but later moved on to posters and advertisements. I tried to recreate the hand lettering in the original 1937 Nikke Coat poster, but since I had to work with a few glyphs only, I designed the remaining ones myself. The outline of Aeronic is rather thin, with thicker bits in some glyphs. It is quite rough in places, but it all adds to its unique look. Aeronic comes with a bonanza of diacritics.

Konrad Kachelofen was a printer in the city of Leipzig beginning around 1483. He printed many works by contemporary authors and also many of the classics. He acquired an unusually large amount of typefaces for his shop, a place that included a wine bar and book store. This type face is based on Typ.11:340G GfT510 Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke and is similar to Proportional Lime’s “Kachelofen'' font. The major differences are that the whole miniscule set is slimmer and the majuscule set has different style glyphs and this face was used solely for titles and section headings because of its sharper and clearer appearance at large point values. Konrad probably died in 1529 after passing his business on to his son-in-law Melchior Lotter, who also went on to fame as an industrious and illustrious printer.

I've been working on a usable sans serif for body copy since the mid-1990s (though I certainly did not know it at the time). This one works well. It started life back in the mists of time as a scan of an old German font by Carl Fahrenwaldt. It was developed fully as a synergized serif with strong traditional roots and released as Bergsland Pro. Now it finally makes it to where I was headed all along as a sans text font. This is a well modulated humanist, sans serif font family with many OpenType features and over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters, ordinal numbers, and so on. It is designed for text use in body copy. But it also works very well for elegantly stylized display.

Creating Halla was a bit unusual for me since I started out creating the italic version first and that inspired the name Halla, meaning to tilt in Icelandic. It is also a fairly common female name in Iceland. “Halla” is derived from old Norse word “hallr” = 'flat stone, rock' or 'sloping, leaning to one side' Halla is a true italic inspired by handwriting and mechanical type. The combination of Light and Italic makes Halla ideal for advertising, branding, signage, packaging and editorial design.

Darker Marker is just what the name suggests: I found a very big fat marker in a local stationary store, bought it, came home and went to work on this font. Darker Marker is a very clear, very easy to read marker font. It is all caps, but upper and lower case differ and can be interchanged. Darth Vader would have said: “come to the dark side” and I believe you should. Darker Marker comes preloaded with all the diacritics you need.

Gandhewa is a font that I made in handwriting style. This font is inspired by my grandfather's writings. I made Gandhewa in a few steps that were long enough to finally become a beautiful font. Starting from rough sketches on paper using a ballpoint pen, I then redrawn and arranged the characters in the font creator. On the very northern edge of South Tucson lies an Old Pueblo institution, Le Caves Bakery, Home of the Vegetable Donut. That’s what they were called when Le Caves opened; now you’d say Vegan Donut, or No Animal Products Used. Radical concept in the Brave New World of 1935. I started with the letters from their sign and extrapolated the rest of the font from those. Deco Donut Fat is extrapolated from Deco Donut. If you want a donut, type a 0 (zero).

“A couple of years ago, when I was designing a package for a marmalade range, I started having a go at creating a typeface that would suit the package I had in mind. The whole process was intensely appealing to me: from merely using typefaces as an intricate part of my work as an art director, I started exploring the function of each and every element that a typeface consists of. The two things on my mind in designing a typeface for a marmalade brand were firstly, that I wanted it to have a hand-written feel, so as to exude that old-fashioned, homemade quality, and secondly, that it ought to have a certain sweetness and gentleness that would match the product. However, PF Scandal managed to outgrow its original inspiration. As I continued working on it, I toned down some of its elements to make it more versatile. And so, PF Scandal evolved into a typeface that has a contemporary, and yet handwritten look, which makes it suitable for a wide range of uses. The ‘Pro’ version comes with the full array of European characters including Latin, Greek and Cyrillic as well as 120 matching pictograms". -A.S.

Zulia is located in the west of Venezuela and it is the state in where Joluvian grew up. It is a region of sunshine, high temperatures, oil and cheerful people, although we choose the name to honor his mother who is from there (zuliana) and who is proud of her land and everything that it represents the area. Zulia is also his first typographic project. It is based on two of his favourite calligraphic styles: italic and brush pen. He started with simple and contrasted strokes on paper with brush and marker. After that he developed the full alphabet and its various options for each letter, starting from a set of handmade forms that could be connected in different ways according to the user needs. What motivates him to involve this style was to create a differentiation with his daily work by generating a heavier type, contrasted and low rise. Zulia finally got life of its own with the participation of Alejandro Paul and a feedback of techniques and skills that were generated with the duo work. Zulia is not just a typeface, Zulia is his love of letters.

Introducing Regave, a typeface inspired by Danish style lettering based off the work of Knud Valdemar Engelhardt (1882–1931) who designed the street signs for the Copenhagen suburb of Gentofte. The Engelhardt's design was loosely based on the lettering of two Danish architects of the time: Thorvald Bindesbøll (designer of the Carlsberg logo) and Anton Rosen. The signs were so successful that they’re still in use today. Dimitrina was created with a simple premise: Can there exist a typeface which features a minimum of sharp angles? And a readable typeface, as well? With these strict rules in mind, the development started. At first the typeface looked more like a script, and some characters ( M G or R, to name a few) still hold traces of a handwritten style which spices the overall taste of Dimitrina. Since the first draft every character was redrawn, and edited several times, for the purpose of making the typeface readable, and distinct at the same time. Estimate for yourself if our goals are achieved, while you observe the three weights which are available exclusively in MyFonts. All of them feature a full set of characters plus cyrillic support. Katlynne is unpredictable. Katlynne is erratic. Katlynne is beautiful. Katlynne is an alternating contrast, sans serif type family. Arbitrarily separating the characters into ‘rounder’ and ‘straighter’ letterforms to determine what contrast each glyph will take. Katlynne is inspired by the observations made while watching the inexperienced use of broad tip pens. I found how and when individuals rotated their pen gave a visually intrusive, if not also pleasantly conspicuous effect. Often, the pen would naturally rotate horizontally (vertical contrast) on the rounder letterforms, and vertically (reverse contrast) on the straighter ones. This is more or less the formula Katlynne adopts as the contrast changes throughout the styles. Katlynne’s severity of contrast varies from ‘Negative Three’ to ‘Positive Three’ in four weights. With a central style ‘Book’ being the sensible, low contrast font in the family. Within the family there are four weights with 7 contrast styles, with complimenting true italics. Giving a total of 56 fonts! Katlynne's array of options works for creating stylistic similitude within layouts, where conspicuous title faces are needed with a cohesive text face to compliment. Alone, the ends of the contrast spectrum (Negative and Positive Three) create striking word forms for advertising, packaging and anywhere else a loud voice is needed.

Kamerik 205 is inspired by the classic, geometric sans-serifs such as Futura and Avant Garde, but has shallower ascenders and descenders for a more compact look, and features a traditional double-storey lower case a and g. It's a versatile, modern sans, highly legible as a text font and with a clean, elegant look as a display font at larger sizes. It includes old style non-aligning (lower case) numbers, both proportional and tabular as well as accented characters for Central European languages. The Kamerik 205 family comprises of six weights, and is closely related to Kamerik 105. The most notable differences between the two variations, are the two-storey lower case a and g in Kamerik 205, where they are single-storey in Kamerik 105.

A sign at the 81st Street (Museum of Natural History) New York subway stop provided the pattern for this mosaic tile face. Formerly, it was nothing more than the market or sale of things and spoils won from the enemy in war. Nowadays, the almoneda is practically associated with spaces where the sale of "old things" takes place and, in Madrid, they are usually concentrated in the area of El Rastro, an open-air market that is set up on Sundays and some holidays in the center of Madrid. There, you can find everything and, if you walk around a lot and look hard enough, great typographic finds. It is there where I find a large number of elements (usually from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century) such as boxes, posters, books, etc.. in which appear uppercase letters with a variety of shapes, letters embedded, rare ligatures ... In addition, many elements extracted from street signs, tiles from bars and commemorative elements of Madrid have been used to complete this font design made with care and patience.
