The idea of Limes emerged at the seashore last year in late summer. Getting ready in advance for a dark winter, we've decided to design a special fontfamily which would bring a bit of vitamins and summer sun into the rough everyday routine and help us survive the cold winter. In 1994 I took a picture of an old movie marquee in Times Square, New York City. 7 years later, I decided to design a typeface based on the big plastic letters found in those old marquees. I scanned in the picture I took and began to draw the letterforms. Like most of my font designs, the initial inspiration came from an urban environment.

Ecliptica is an extended family of five very condensed typefaces in a single bold weight. The creation of Australian designer Robert Bell. Ecliptica has a Sans, a Semi-Serif, a Serif and a single Cursive that can be used with any of the other three styles. As an added bonus, Robert also designed a modern Blackletter companion. The Ecliptica family is an unusual layout of styles and all work equally well with one another. The OpenType versions of the Ecliptica fonts support an extended Latin character set that includes a full array of fractions as well as additional ligatures. Big Jim Roberts was my dad. A dedicated family man who taught us about faith, values and love is missed by our family. Jim just about did it all. He was a military man, a police officer, a power company engineer and a photographer. This typeface (which is comprised of a bold lower-case alphabet) has a 70s retro feel. Jim might have like it. Taking into consideration some complaints about lack of capital letters and deficiency of heavier weight styles, the Fermo typeface was redesigned to replace the existing font, dated 2002. New Fermo includes two subfamilies—Fermo TRF and Fermo-Uni TRF. Both fonts now consist of three weight styles—light, regular and bold—with significant contrast. During the updating process some minor glyph shape adjustments and changes have been made. Fermo TRF's main distinctions from the previous font are the new capital letters and additional weight (light) style. Fermo-Uni TRF is a unicase font with an additional lightweight style. Fermo is recommended for use as a display font. In large size settings negative tracking is recommended.

Petrarka may be described as a Condensed, Sans-Serif, Semi-Fatface Roman. Huh? Bear with me on this. The Fatface is a name given to the popular nineteenth-century romans that where characterized by an extremity of contrast between the thick and thin stroke. The earliest example that is generally familiar is Thorowgood, believed to have been designed by Robert Thorne and released by Thorowgood Foundry in 1820 as "Five-line Pica No. 5." Copied by many foundries, it became one of the more popular advertising types of the day. Later, in the period from about 1890 to 1950, you find a number of typeface designs with the thin stroke beefed up a bit, not quite so extreme. What you might call Semi-Fatfaced Romans begin to replace the extreme Fatfaces. Serifed designs like Bauer’s Bernard Roman Extra Bold and ATF’s Bold Antique appear. In addition, we see the development of semi-fatface lineals or Sans-Serif Semi-Fatfaces. Examples include Britannic (Stephenson Blake), Chambord Bold (Olive), Koloss (Ludwig & Mayer), Matthews (ATF) and Radiant Heavy (Ludlow). Petrarka has much in common with this latter group, but is distinguished by two salient features: it is condensed and it shows a strong blackletter influence, as seen in the ‘H’ particularly. Petrark was released about 1900 by the German foundry of Schelter & Giesecke of Leipzig and is one of the designs of the period that attempts to reconcile roman and blackletter traditions. Making a cameo appearance in this Multi-Lingual font is the Anglo-Saxon letter yogh (#729), which, along with the thorn and the eth, is always useful for preparing flyers in Old English. There are still pockets of resistance to the Norman French influence that washed up on England’s shores in 1066. Diablo Light was originally called Fabric and was issued by the Farmer, Little & Co. foundry in New York. We liked everything about this font except for the lowercase 'g'. So we changed the offending letter, but for purity kept the orginal as an alternate. We created a bold version of Diablo Light, with minor changes to accomodate the bolder stroke weight. Although the original design is over a century old, the style seems to have an up-to-date look.

Carnas, a new monoline sans with a light, slender and informal appearance. It is however forceful and strong enough for headlines and signage. Despite the reduction in its shapes, it is pleasantly readable for both shorter and longer text applications. The Carnas family consists of 16 styles and is well suited for ambitious typography. TELEPATH Telepath by Coniglio Type, first appeared in 1998. It is now in opentype .otf as of 2021. Telepath is a master sampling of a Royal office typewriter of industrial strength provided by the Miller Furniture store, of Dunkirk, New York. It had a baseline set of numbers to make accounting practices easy and line up nicely on the statements. (No gentile old fashioned numerical ascenders and descenders.) Yet, for a a rather old and stolid machine, it was very luxurious and built to definitely take the test of time. Cudo's for Royal Typewriter Company, is all I can say. The set of images were very carefully gathered and has fallen into the preferred category for a typewriter font that has it all. The font has exceptional value as a text font -and- a display font. Alex Kaczun, originally designed BottleKaps for Linotype-Hell, in 1992, as a QuickDraw GX multi-master font series. A few new GX applications, like 'Unicorn', where able to utilize these unique fonts. The GX application allowed the user to adjust weight and proportions, on the fly, including glyph substitution for small capitals, old style figures, swash and alternate endings. The technology was never successfully deployed by Apple, so the individual fonts, 21 styles and variations in all, where sold in the Linotype Font Library as separate Truetype fonts up until 1998. Unfortunately, the fonts collected dust for many years thereafter, but now have been reworked and rejuvenated by Alex in OpenType format for both Mac and PC. 'BottleKaps' is a 'unique', 'playful' and 'decorative' font series. Use it for those bold headlines to stimulate interest and show off your 'unique' individual style.
