I recently came across an old travel journal I’d misplaced, and in it was a really rough sketch of an Italian post office. The sign lettering caught my eye while flipping through the pages, and while not my forte, I thought I’d take my stab at recreating sans-serif lettering as a font. The Postale family recaptures that old post signage and the vintage flair that appeals to me. A little reminiscing is always a good thing. You’ll find the Stylistic Alternates feature changes up the retro styled letters to a more modern sans serif styling for a handful of letterforms, if the vintage style of certain letters isn’t your cup of tea.

I've always loved drawing faeries and I love using them in my scrapbooking pages. So after hunting around for a unique decorative fairy font for my crafts I couldn't quite find what I wanted to use, so I decided to create a whimiscal set of fairy drawings and characters that would suffice. I was influenced in the drawing of the fairies by my love of the 3D poser graphics art,several awesome comics, Alphonse Mucha and several Masters of Art. NorB TypeWriter Roughen is the roughen version of my NorB TypeWriter typeface witch's my emulation of the IBM Selectric 'Light Italic' ball witch was used by my grand-brother for his correspondance during the 70’s and 80’s. It's however a slanted mono-spaced looking typewriter font. You may want to use this font with any word processing program for text and display use, print and web projects, apps and ePub, comic books, graphic identities, branding, editorial, advertising, scrapbooking, cards and invitations and any casual lettering purpose… or even just for fun! One day my kids asked me: ‘would you rather be healthy and poor or super rich and sick?’ Without a doubt I answered: ‘healthy and poor’. Having money is nice, but it is not what life is about. At least, that is what I believe. Radical Fortune is a font I made after a period in my life that could have ended with a really nice sum of money in my hands - but which I didn’t take. I had to give up too much of myself and that just didn’t feel right. I made Radical Fortune to keep me from thinking too much - and, symbolically, I used a really old and cheap marker pen to draw out the glyphs!

One of the best desserts I have eaten in my life was a treacle tart. I do know that it was in England and I do know that it was delicious. I really don’t know why I was thinking of that, but that pleasant memory did give me a name for this font. I am still learning my new font software, which is a bit of a slow process. The software I used for this font allows me to add several languages, which, hitherto, I couldn’t access. So, in short, this is my most multilingual font ever: it even includes Vietnamese and a bit of Hiragana and Katakana for you to get creative with!

Tea Time JNL was inspired by the hand lettering on the 1931 sheet music for "When I Take My Sugar to Tea".

Fairlady is a decorative and quite tightly spaced font with preserved legibility which makes it perfect for vintage cards, labels, posters, logos, packaging and more. It has multilingual support for most European countries.

Kurkuma (Turmeric in Dutch) is a spice I use in all of my curries. And I love curry! It's not more than fair to name a font after my favorite ingredient, so here you have it: Kurkuma. It is a unique and somewhat bizarre font with both an angelic and a diabolical side. I wouldn't set a whole text in it, but it does look great in headlines, posters and websites.

After I created my font Montello, I decided to continue with the classic connected font look. Meet Panettone. Panettone is a sweet bread loaf, originally from Milan, which is usually served during Christmas. Of course, you could use my Panettone script for your Christmas cards, but Panettone won’t look bad on invitations, book covers and products that need a classy look. Be it a blessing or a curse, when a type designer sees a shape that could be interpreted as a letter, his/her mind is off and running. My parents loved to travel; Dad drove to Florida seven different years, winding on (barely) two-lane “highways” clinging to the hills of Kentucky and Tennessee. Hem and Haw SRF is another Ray Larabie original for Stella Roberts Fonts. Rebuilt from Ray's former freeware design "Stitchen", the lettering looks as if it were stitched into fabric. The font now is more complete with foreign characters and additional accents, punctuation and currency symbols. Containing over 100 ligatures, Epistula is a loosely written font, resembling my own natural way of writing. It has a nice flow and the pointy tail-ends give it a certain speed. Creating Epistula has been a long process, but returning to the drawing board a few times has – in my humble opinion – paid off. This font comes in two weights: regular and medium. Invites is a digital recreation of a 1920’s mechanical script that has never existed. I designed it for my wedding invitations last year and named it in honor of my (ex)wife. Who said it wasn’t her. And she was right. So now it’s called something different. I wanted a sweet, romantic name ... Iris? Taken. Lily? Taken. Iris Lily? Cumbersome. I wanted something short and inviting. Uh ... hmmm.

Emulating real handwriting has always been an aim of font designers in the digital age. The standard mainstream scripts and doodles that were available for the longest time have not successfully reached that goal. A letter always looked the same wherever you placed it. Some workarounds, such as letter alternates and ligatures, were used in many fonts, but they were a bit inconvenient to use, and in some cases didn't work correctly because they had to be placed in separate fonts from the main character set. Not until now, with OpenType technology, have we been able to emulate real handwriting, by including multiple character sets in the same font and programming it for smart form changes through letter sequence counting. Secret Scrypt was the first Canada Type font to make it to the bestseller list in the summer of 2004. In early 2005 a New York restaurant chain picked Secret Scrypt to use on its menus and internal signage, but they wanted to look even more like real handwriting, where two or three instances of the same letter used in one word would automatically change and look different from each other. Using OpenType technology, Canada Type produced a Secret Scrypt Pro for that restaurant chain under the direction of Mucca Design in New York City. That initial version contained three different character sets in the same font, and some intelligent programming that determines the sequence of the letters and change their shapes accordingly. Now the retail version of Secret Scrypt Pro is available, with four character sets built into the font for even more variety on the real handwriting theme.
