Opake™ is an experimental typeface design that steps away from regular design conventions. Instead of basing the design on a calligraphic tool or geometric shapes, Opake™ is the result of the exercise of creating letters with a single continuous loop line. This unseen technique makes the overall design very unique. Calgary Script was mostly inspired by a brush script on a Welcome To Calgary sign in, you guessed it, Calgary. Though now, after it's finished, I can easily tell the influence is evident of all the books on American sign painting I have absorbed over the years. The overall effect of the font is similar to something that Fonzied itself, big hair and leather jackets and all, out of the early 1980s, but the feeling really dates back to a few decades earlier. Heady caps and free-flowing lowercase make for a speedy, determined, and instinctively organized buffalo herd of a typeface. Germany has a strong heritage of industrial typefaces. These fonts seem like being constructed by engineers. The shapes seem to be built with circles and squares. DIN Mittelschrift is one very famous example, or the font on the old German car number plates. Since the Romain du Roi we know that it is tricky to draw a geometrical typeface. For optical reasons you have to go away from circles and lines with exactly one weight. Therefore the aim is not to construct a typeface but to draw it the way it seems constructed finally. The design of a typeface is like stage production. Like heavily made up actors the characters of a typeface must be exaggerated to work well. Particularly in small sizes.

Kamerik 205 is inspired by the classic, geometric sans-serifs such as Futura and Avant Garde, but has shallower ascenders and descenders for a more compact look, and features a traditional double-storey lower case a and g. It's a versatile, modern sans, highly legible as a text font and with a clean, elegant look as a display font at larger sizes. It includes old style non-aligning (lower case) numbers, both proportional and tabular as well as accented characters for Central European languages. The Kamerik 205 family comprises of six weights, and is closely related to Kamerik 105. The most notable differences between the two variations, are the two-storey lower case a and g in Kamerik 205, where they are single-storey in Kamerik 105.

Camber is the last in a personal series of squarish sans. It is a noiseless typeface with a geometric base, it has a synthetic and clean design, but with a human sensitivity where the geometry fails. It tries to be more versatile and simpler than its predecessors, with a pragmatic approach, having less visual noise and virtually removing the disturbing elements. The family is generous in width meeting a certain shortage of wider fonts. Camber works well in both display and text, it is a multipurpose font suited for magazine, branding and web. The type family consists of 14 styles, 7 weights (Thin, UltraLight, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold and Bold) plus italics and it’s available in Open Type format. Bombelli is a font that looks like it has been handwritten by a meticulous architect in one of those hand-drawn blueprints of the old days. I chose the name to honor one of my ex-bosses -- a graphic designer-architect who taught me a lot of things when I was young and needed the money. One of the things he taught me – and probably the most important one – was to always be on time in the morning. He never said a word about me being late, but it worked. He taught me about being meticulous in detail and many other things I only appreciated much later. This clear and straightforward font deserves bearing his name. Cosmic Turtle is the belief that the world is supported by a giant turtle. It is mostly found in Hindu and Chinese mythology and the mythologies of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. I had to think of this, as the idea of the Cosmic Turtle is referenced to in the 1982 book ‘A Wild Sheep Chase’ by Haruki Murakami - my favourite author. Cosmic Turtle is a font that I made using a broken chop stick and Chinese ink. I was actually trying to create something scary for Halloween, but this is what came out and I quite like it. Cosmic Turtle is a fat display font with rough edges, wobbly glyphs and a set of double letter ligatures for you to play with.

Occam is an informal calligraphic script face. The letter forms were drawn and constructed rather than penned or brushed but reflect a definite flat pen influence. The ascenders and descenders incorporate an abstract implied loop form. Some curves that would normally be round are pointed and some transitions that would normally be sharp and pointed have been made round. A few exit strokes curve back instead of moving up and out for a little different look. This font could be put to good use as a contrasting style combined with sans and serif faces in applications such as newsletters, brochures, invitations and annual reports. It could be used for heads, subheads, pull quotes, drop caps and as a title font for covers.

First things first: I am really not a Star Trek fan. I did come up with this name, which I thought had a good ring to it. When I checked whether the name was already taken, I found out that Black Cluster is a term from Star Trek. Now you want to know what a Black Cluster is, so just check out poster 2 and read all about it. For me, Black Cluster is a handmade ink font, with a lot of jumping glyphs, a lot of diacritics and a handful of ligatures. It may be rough, but you will be pleasantly surprised by what it can do to a design! May the font be with you. Oh, no, that was from Star Wars…

Marita combines sternness with swing and, from this, develops its own, unique elegance. This makes Marita quite versatile, also and especially for headline settings. Apart from numerous ligatures, the font also includes old style figures. Marita is based on brush writing with drop-shaped serifs. The idea was to try to apply a given design criteria (also see Volker Schnebel's Manuel and Martin fonts) to every single character. In other words, start with a character and develop all of the others from it. This is quite easy for some characters but extremely difficult for others. This process generates creativity and the characters move away from the initial constructed sketch. Together in a typeface, the individual characters are now all of a piece and character.

Heer Halewijn (The Song of Lord Halewijn) is a 13th century Dutch folk tale which survives in folk ballad. The story tells of a man called Halewijn, who lives in the woods and who lures pretty women with his songs (whom he then kills). One day a princess visits Halewijn, but when he wants to kill her, she requests he remove his robe, so as not to stain it with her blood. He obliges and when he is undressing, the princess seizes his sword and chops off his head. Halewyn is a handmade font, which was loosely based on my Languedoc font and Garamond. Use it for product packaging, books and posters. Comes in 4 weights (with italics) and a ballad full of diacritics.

In 1805, December second, the Napoleonic French army won the famous battle of Austerlitz, against Autrichian and Russian armies. Napoleon was a great general, but his hand-writing was not legible at all, so he employed a few secretaries who wrote the official mail. This font was created, inspired from letters written by one of these professional secretaries and scribes in the months before the battle. We propose it as a typical example of the French Hand from this period. The font contains numerous ligatures and alternative characters so as to look as close as possible to real handwriting. The standard full set is complete with accented or specific characters for West (Including Celtic) and Central European, Baltic, Romanian, Hungarian and Turkish languages.

Vaccine Sans is a humanist sans-serif font family with soft terminals, but stem junctions on the contrary use hard constructions. Such combination of basic design features makes the font distinct and strong in setting and delicate and soft in appearance. Apothicaire is a new font designed by Ale Paul and the Sudtipos team that is inspired in, but not limited to, an antique style casted by a German type foundry during the late XIX century. With the addition of a contemporary design approach, Apothicaire comes in three widths —from condensed to expanded— and five weights —from light to extra bold—, offering a wide range of combinations to explore. Preta, portuguese for a very pure kind of black, has its name very related to its concept: I wanted to make the fattest/darkest script ever. People who follow my work may notice its forms are very related to works of my past (1) but this time the challenge was to be very cautious with the white spaces between letters. Not only I followed some rules and ductus of the copperplate style of calligraphy but also I took a lot of inspiration in posters of the early Art Nouveau (specially in Alfred Roller of the Vienna Secession) where letters forms looked like black squares if not looked from a close distance. With Preta, I wanted to achieve that same idea of “darkness” and thanks to the always welcomed question -what if?- the font grew a lot. The result is a very fat font, that looks delicious. Due to possible customer needs, I designed Preta Small, so it can be used in smaller sizes. Preta Ao Sol (which literally means under the sun!) is a style with those lovely tiny details to give the sensation of bright. Preta Ao Sol Solo was made to be used as a layered font with Preta. Finally, Preta Capitals serves as a company for Preta. Hope you enjoy the font as much as I did when designing it: The fact that it’s full of alternates, swashes, ligatures and swirls makes it really pleasurable at the moment of using it. A stylistic and square outline font suitable for headlines and logos. The original font contained no diacritics at all, so I have designed these to match. I also made the descenders on "g/j/p/q/y" a bit longer - so they would balance better with the letters with diacritics below the letter... I redesigned the "t", but have included the original "t" as an alternate, available via your programs' glyph palette or using the OpenType functions "Stylistic Alternates"/"ss01". The Greek font started from an experiment with designing fonts based on a geometric grid. I joined the points on the grid with straight lines to form the various characters and found that this resulted in a font that closely resembled Greek writing (derived from inscriptions carved in stone) of ancient times. I continued to develop this theme but I now accentuated the look and feel of Greek writing. The three styles shown are the results of this development. I did not kern or letterspace the individual letters since this would have been out of character with the orignal Greek writing. This means that the font is mono-spaced. At a later stage I may produce more refined and "modern" versions of these fonts. Surprisingly, the Greek SCF styles are very readable. The font is fully professional in terms of its character set. It contains over 235 characters - (upper and lower case characters, punctuation, numerals, symbols and accented characters are present). In fact, it has all the accented characters used in the major European languages.

Spectrum font is based on a design by Jan van Krimpen, who worked on his font from 1941 to 1943 for use in a Bible of the Spectrum publishing house in Utrecht. The bible project was later cancelled but the font was so beautifully formed and universal that the Monotype Corporation in London completed it. Distinctive are the reserved elegance and unmistakeable beauty of form. The italic was kept fine and is a wonderful complement to the other weights, making it perfect for emphasis in text. The form of the lower case italic g is reminiscent of van Krimpen's italic for Lutetia and Romanée. A similar font in form is the Perpetua from Eric Gill. It displays not only similar forms to those of Spectrum, both fonts also have uniquely designed old style figures.
