I designed Mirage using ink and a calligraphy brush to evoke the writing styles of ancient and exotic civilizations. After completing the project, it was filed and forgotten. About 15 years later, I was sifting through some of my old art files and found a "photostat" of the entire character set... a truly a magnificent archeological discovery. Then I thought, hey, maybe it's day has come. Why not share it with the world?... a completely digitized version for the new millennium. Petunia is a calligraphy style font designed by New York based calligrapher Eliza Gwendalyn . Her modern copperplate script has been a style she has been developing throughout her career. PhrackSle is a a Fraktur face with a difference: it has a uniform stroke rather than a calligraphic-pen stroke. It comes in four weights: thin, plain, bold, and extrabold. (For a version of the design done with a calligraphic stroke, see PhederFrack.)

Matchmaker, a modern calligraphy typeface, was inspired by the various works of modern day calligraphers. Its tall, quirky, and juxtaposed letterforms provide a deviation from traditional calligraphy-inspired typefaces. Matchmaker features smart contextual alternates and swashes that add to the front and beginnings of letters (using lowercase letters, enter === before the word then +++ after the word to see the feature in action). Also watch as letters on the end of words magically receive a shortened tail. This font works best in OpenType aware software so that you can take advantage of its many tricks and features. Satampra evokes the spirit of Arabic calligraphy with a hint of something strange and magical. It is an unusual calligraphic font based on an obscure hand lettered style with unique overlapping character strokes. It fits the theme of oriental fantasy and would work well with the fonts in our Arabian Nights Fonts and Art package. Satampra is an upper-case only font, but the lower case positions have alternative versions of the upper case character set.

Ed Benguiat drew the PL Bernhardt font which was released in 1970. PL Bernhardt was modeled after a 1930/1931 design by Lucian Bernhard. All terminals on non-vertical strokes are diagonal so that lower and uppercase X looks as though they are dancing.

When Aldo Novarese designed his “tipo inglese” Juliet typeface, he had a simple objective in mind: Reduce the inclination angle of the traditional 18th and 19th centuries English script in order to make the punchcutter’s job easier and the resulting metal type more durable. But when Juliet was released by Nebiolo in 1955, it was a big surprise to both typesetters and calligraphers all over Europe. Novarese’s idea of working the standard copperplate script within the limited technology of the time proved to be a marvel in optical metal sizing (Juliet was available in sizes ranging from 12 to 60 pt), but also opened the door to new calligraphic possibilities. Easier readability and a very friendly color were obvious side effects of the reduced angle. So soon after its release, calligraphers worldwide began emulating the angle reduction and experimenting with the application of the same concept to other calligraphic genres. Today, more than 50 years later, many professional calligraphers point to Novarese’s Juliet as an opening to fresh ideas and new directions in 20th century elegant calligraphy. Song style typefaces originated in the age of woodblock printing in Song Dynasty. Being an essential Chinese type style for printing and publishing all since Ming Dynasty. Based on the Kaishu calligraphic script, its structure has evolved, regularised and standardised with thick stems (豎), thin horizontal strokes (橫) and triangular finials. Dots (點), hooks (勾) and downstrokes retained some features of calligraphy, hence an appropriate choice for continuous reading. The typeface is equipped with a variety of stroke weights, all highly legible .

Le Griffe is the work of French designer Andre-Michel Lubac. A superb calligraphic script, Le Griffe includes two fonts of separate alternates and swash characters. In contrast to its more reserved lowercase, Le Griffe's capitals are quite lively- especially those with swashes and flourishes. With Le Griffe, Lubac has imitated the skilled penmanship of free-flowing calligraphy in digital form. Everleigh Duo consists of two typefaces - thin serif font and calligraphic script font. Both of this fonts have an elegant thin shape with classic influences. This pair is created in one breath and they matches perfectly in lots of lettering composition. Everleigh Script - it's a connected script typeface that imitates handwritten pen calligraphy. It includes lots of ligatures and multilingual support. Everleigh Medium - it's a little modified version of my another font Everleigh. This typeface has a slightly thicker shape and slightly different serifs, which makes it more useful on dark backgrounds. It also has lots of ligatures and stylistic alternates.

There are a few professions in which being left-handed confers an advantage-think of the great southpaw pitchers in major league baseball, like Sandy Koufax. Now, think of all the great left-handed calligraphers. Not so easy, right? Here's a hint: Luis Siquot. Far from being an advantage, Siquot's lefty orientation proved a hurdle to overcome. When I was young, I had serious problems writing," he recalls. "If there was a lot of text, I almost always soiled the paper with wet ink as my hand followed the pen." Then, a friend told Siquot about a special store in London that catered to left-handed people. It was there that he found an Osmiroid pen specially designed for left-handed calligraphers. ITC Cali is based on Siquot's use of this pen. "Electronic scans of my calligraphy were the foundation of the design," he says. "I was careful to leave in some imperfections to avoid an excessively mechanical look, and added the little notches in the strokes to imitate the texture of writing on a rough cotton paper." ITC Cali works equally well in text and display sizes, but it is a calligraphic script, Siquot warns, "and shouldn't be set in all capitals." That said, ITC Cali is a remarkably versatile design, well-suited to a variety of communication projects."

Galicia is a looser calligraphic serif that has unusual forms that are seen to good effect in characters like the lower case a. It is suggested for use where a more formal and classic yet still warm and calligraphic look is appropriate.

Oddity is a calligraphic script font with reversed contrast with some exceptions in some letters, adding more legibility and rhythm. Using ideas from English calligraphy and our own Nautica family as a starting point, we created this classy 70s flavour type design. Beautiful Calligraphic font and also a readable font.

The first Tuscan lettering was penned in the mid-fourth century by the calligrapher Furius Dionysius Filocalus. The style was still in common usage as calligraphy when Vincent Figgins designed the first Antique Tuscan for print in 1817. Antique and Gothic Tuscan woodtype fonts appeared in the 1830’s. By the 1850’s, Tuscan fonts had become popular in America. These styles continued in print use into the twentieth century. Tuscan Antique and Gothic styles, borrowed from print and calligraphy, were perfect for signs, posters, handbills and other large format advertising. Sign painter, Frank Atkinson demonstrated several Tuscan forms in his book Sign Painting, A Complete Manual. Modified & Spurred Tuscan Romans were inspired by this and other works of the same period.
