The "Max" in EraMax comes from the ultra bold weight, but also, and mainly as a tip of the hat to Peter Max, the designer and artist, known for creating so many images which have come to be emblematic of the sixties and seventies. This is the second of what is to be an extended family of typefaces based on the original hand painted signage found in the T. Breakers is a sans serif originally conceived to be a display typeface. Works great in text also, but the diversity in weights is its strong point. It is easy to achieve that high contrast using thin against the ultra weight, but setting tall and lean capitals against the compact and heavy small caps can make really diverse compositions for all kinds of display design. With small caps included, and over 600 glyphs in each weight, it should prove itself useful in finding the right combination for any typographic setting. This is a font imitating the stage of outline construction of letters using drawing tools - compass and ruler. It is very geometric (with auxiliary lines, axes, centers of circles, tangents, and conjugation of circles), although the circles are somewhat compressed from four sides. On page 45 of Samuel Welo’s 1930 instructional book “Lettering Practical and Foreign” is a multi-line alphabet of Art Deco elegance that perfectly captures the spirit of the Streamline era. The digital version is available as Showcard Multiline JNL in both regular and oblique versions.
