A. R. Bosco made Romany for ATF in 1934, when there was much demand for script types in advertising and publishing. It was the high times of Speedball lettering, and a casual script in that fashion was naturally very welcome. It became an instant hit and was used widely for a good part of the 1930s and 1940s. Apricot is not only a revival of Bosco's work, but also a major expansion of it. It contains very effective solutions to the many problems presented by the original metal type, which had to always be tracked too wide because of the forms of some of its letters. Solving these problems was not an easy task. Pegasus scrapes the DNA of a great twentieth century painter who scattered text across his work like no other… not any kind of facsimile, but tough, playful, adaptable display type forged from the bones of a unique writing hand. Three weights - Skinny, Domestic and Peso - each offer five alternates for each letter, three for each numeral and multiple versions of many punctuation and other symbols. Letters are uppercase only with the lowercase providing one of the alternate forms of each letter… with OpenType Contextual Alternates switched on, you get automatic variation between the two… and you can manually throw in wilder variations from the remaining alternates. Harri –“stone” in Basque language– is a display font based on the peculiar letter forms used in signs and fascias all over the Basque Country. This idiosyncratic lettering style, very often used as an identity signifier, evolved from ancient inscriptions carved on gravestones which can still be found in the French part of the Basque Country (Behe Nafarroa, Lapurdi and Zuberoa).Harri takes some of its more significant features from those engraved letter forms, but also from the current overemphasized shapes derived from them, while keeping in sight their antecessors: the Romanesque inscriptions and ultimately the Roman Capitals. Gerard Unger once said “the black version of a font is a caricature of the regular”. This may explain how the odd heavy shapes in use in the Basque Country today might have evolved from their engraved roots, which are already an interpretation of Romanesque and Roman letter forms. This evolution is echoed in Harri through its weights, from the clean formal Roman-inspired light to the extreme expressive Basque-style extra bold.

OMG! I never thought I'd finish this font! Actually, the idea came to me in the late 1990-ies, but the sketches lied at the bottom of the "fonts I will complete one day In the future" pile ... also called "fonts I most likely won't complete...EVER" pile! :) Anyway, I started up with letters for both upper and lowercase, no numbers or punctuation. I figured if people ever purchased this font, all they would need were upper- or lowercase letters. But the rest of the glyphs seemed to miss out, so I made the numbers and some punctuation. But I still found the font incomplete...therefore I redid all the punctuation (from "standard" punctuation to "picturish" punctuation) and added two additional sets of letters. Meaning that there is 4 different versions of letters to choose from: 2 different lowercase, and 2 different lowercase. I had a lot of fun drawing this font, and some fun doing the detective work finding out how the MANY lettershapes should look! I hop you too have fun using this font! :)

I do a lot of taller, narrower handwriting fonts; this time around, I was inspired to make a wider, shorter handwriting font! French Art Deco lettering found within the pages of the 1934 publication L'Art du Tracé Rationnel de la Lettre (roughly translated to “The Rational Path Art of the Letter”) have provided a number of designs well-suited for digital revival. A hand lettered sans with varying character widths was the basis for Colmar JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. As the source of the lettering design was a French publication, the typeface is named for the city of Colmar, which (according to Wikipedia) is the third-largest commune of the Alsace region in north-eastern France.

The history of this font is those. Once I assorted the old children's books which have stayed from times of my childhood. On one of them I have seen a trade mark of a printing house consisting of two Russian letters "L" and "B". From they were begun also with my font. And though finally from these letters a little that remained, elements of these letters can be seen in font D-block B.

Lettering has an unusual way of adapting itself to many needs. The type style for Sporting Chance JNL was based on metal house identification letters used for Welcome Home JNL. The same type of block design was prevalent in 1920s-1930s era window signage via die-cut foil characters. Yet we tend to nowadays associate block lettering with sports-themed items. No matter the application, Sporting Chance JNL will fill the bill.

FourJuly contains three patriotic fonts that might be fun to use in July. They are also very hard to read, but perhaps not as hard as the somewhat similar letters in the fonts of FlagDay. FourJuly A has square, blocky letters with star interiors. FourJuly G and FourJuly H add diagonal stripes. FourJuly G and FourJuly H can be layered on top of FourJuly A to create bicolored letters.
