The hand lettering for the movie posters and collateral items for the 1962 film "Mondo Cane" inspired Doggone It JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. "Mondo Cane" loosely translates into "A Dog's World", and the subject of the travelogue documentary consisted mainly of unusual cultural practices around the world that many would find perverse, depraved or shocking.

Nylon is an interpretation of pre-16th century letterforms, in particular those found in mediaeval portraits at the National Gallery, London. The source material contains many unusual and manic shapes—it appears as if these classical forms have, over time, become perverted, almost demonic. Draylon is the more restrained counterpart to Nylon; it is based on letterforms found on 18th century ceramics—some 200 years after the source material of Nylon. Nylon and Draylon have been designed so that they can be mixed together with ease. Both typefaces have been drawn with a kind of crude digital awkwardness—acknowledging the tool of the present moment, the computer, in the design process.

Picture if you will, a balmy autumn evening in Manhattan during the 1930s and a well-dressed couple out on the town. They hail one of the hansom cabs located near Central Park and climb in for an old-fashioned romantic ride around the green. Such are the type of images the stylized Art Deco hand-lettering comprising Horse Drawn Carriage JNL evokes. The inspiration for this font was the title card for a 1935 Bette Davis feature entitled "The Girl from 10th Avenue".

Brick Lane is an picture font consisting of 52 detailed, hand drawn illustrations of people seen on Brick Lane, a street in the heart of the Bangladeshi community in the East End of London. It has over the last few years become the home of parts of the creative industries in London, mainly media, fashion and graphics. All illustrations are based on photographs taken on location over a period of time. The photographs are then hand traced to create high quality, detailed silhouettes.

Online auctions offer a treasure trove of lost or forgotten merchandise, and many items pertaining to lettering just beg to be digitized into a typeface. Case in point is a partial set of brass stencils that were the visual model for Ultra Thin Stencil JNL. Hard Rain is named after the torrential thunderstorms that occur in the subtropical regions on the east coast of southern Africa -- the land of the Zulu. During the two-month long rainy season the steamy downpour usually lasts for a few days, and is then followed by the welcoming sun. The diagonal stripes represent the heavy drops of water that drench everything they touch. The resulting font has something of a grunge look to it. As with other grunge fonts, Hard Rain is best used for posters and display work. However, the crisp edges mean that it can be very readable even if used at a small size. Unlike most grunge fonts, Hard Rain has a full character set and this greatly extends its usability.

Way back in the 1990s, the fatter the fast food generation got, the more condensed letters became. I figured when the taste in fonts started to mirror the contemporary bodily norm, Hunky Chunk should be there. Here it is.

The idea for Cambalache was conceived back in 2008 and was to create a geometrical font based on tangential modules into structure. The serif would be arranged, looking to approach to the lettering shapes. The creative concept has a feel from the mid-30s of last century, reaching a taste of retro and vintage style. Includes oldstyle numbers, slashed zero, standard and discretional ligatures.

Usually I prefer desserts that aren't overly sweet, but a week ago I lost my sense of tasting - due to Corona, and when I wanted something sweet...I preferred it overly sweet...of course because I hardly could taste the overwhelming sweetness! But now, I have my sense of tasting (and smelling!) back, and everything is back to normal. And since I completed this easy-recipe-inspired handmade font while suffering from Corona, I thought I'd name it Overly Sweet. And...well. because, the font is somewhat overly sweet (without being over the top sweet!)
