Around 2018 or 2019, the State of Florida introduced new letter and number characters on its auto plates. Inspired by this change, Jeff Levine Fonts offers up a digital version of this lettering named New Car Tag JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions (for those who want a more sporty look). Some people prefer a rounded 'zero' to differentiate between the regular zero and the letter 'O'. You can find this alternate character located on both the solid bar and broken bar glyphs.

Loppemarked is Flea market in danish, and that’s where I got the inspiration to do these fonts from! Headline - chunky serifs here and there, and some are missing! No attempt to get it right…anywhere! Text - The letters are scribbled quickly, leaving not much attention to accuracy. Yink takes big, bulbous, ball terminals up a notch, by repeating the shapes not only in the black but in the white space too. This interplay between black and white shapes is reminiscent of the yinyang symbol in places, which is where the name Yink originates. It's a shamelessly over-the-top font, and should be set large. Marathon was originally designed by Rudolf Koch in 1931 for Schriftgiesserei Klingspor. It is a roman with short ascenders and descenders. The serifs are small, but longer at the ends of the arms of E, F and L, M is rather splayed and is without top serifs, like M in other typefeaces designed by Rudolf Koch. The lowercase g has no link and an open tail, again like the g in other Koch types. U has the lower-case design. In the W the middle strokes cross, the lower case w has no middle serif. The figures are short-ranging. Ute Harder from the Fachhochschule Hamburg had redesigned Marathon with the help and supervision of Professor Jovica Veljovic. She has added a book weight to offer more flexibility with this beautiful typeface.

Whereas the established classes of sans serif typeface achieve a dynamic balance between stroke and space by combining a diversity of letterform with an evenness of fit, Preface switches the emphasis, driving out diagonals to create a dominant harmony of curves and perpendiculars, matched with a greater variety of inter-character space shapes—the result of extra width introduced in the “f” and “t”, and by the openness that accompanies the wide tails of the “ a” and “l”, the long ear of the “r”, and the serif of the “i”. En masse, and in keeping with the present trend in typography, Preface exhibits a coarser texture than the traditional sans serif faces, but one that is nonetheless even and precise. Mein Schatz's (in English: Darling) characteristic feature is the availability of ligatures in the expert set. The font offers – among others – the ligatures sh, sp, st, tz and alternatives for f, l and z. The expert set’s majuscules have curved elements in addition, thus allowing designers to put the typeface to highly individualistic use for displays and logos. Another feature of the font are the two different figure systems. Further to the normal table figures, Mein Schatz also offers old style figures, mainly for use in continuous text. Lysergic is a smoky, swirly, super-psychedelic font that exudes 1960s vibes. This font is a tribute to the work of San Francisco artist Rick Griffin, famous for his psychedelic posters, creative lettering ideas, and especially his Grateful Dead album cover art. Griffin was a master of ink stippling and that particular drawing technique proves to be a great way to embellish this style of lettering. In hardware stores across the country are display racks with letters and numbers silk-screened onto self-adhesive aluminum "parallelograms". These handy and durable items have graced countless mailboxes, office doors, hallway signs and automobiles for years. My fellow font designing buddy [Harold Lohner] suggested that I make a font based on this form of lettering as a counterpart to my Mailbox Letters JNL (also based on self-adhesive signage product)... and now his suggestion takes shape as a digital font... Luminum JNL.

These four typefaces, Berlinette NB, Lyonette NB, Marseillette NB and Parisette NB, were designed from the same basic shape, a fanciful geometric form that avoids strict horizontals and uses more offbeat triangular shapes. Marseillette is the nasty one, with sharp hook terminations that require careful use. Don�t slip and accidentally stick one in your hand � it will hurt pretty bad and make you blubber like a baby. It�s good for surreal warning signs on dark, forbidding docks where gooey monsters live.

I was working on an unrelated job with curls and wondered how I could apply them to a font. Well, here it is, all pair-kerned. A little silly but fun.

The Verdana typeface family was designed specifically to address the challenges of on-screen display. Verdana was originally designed by world-renowned type designer Matthew Carter, and tuned for screen display by the leading TrueType hinting expert, Tom Rickner. The Verdana fonts are unique examples of type designed specifically for the computer screen.The Verdana family received a major update in 2011 as a collaboration between The Font Bureau, Monotype Imaging and Matthew Carter. The original Verdana family included only four fonts: regular, italic, bold and bold italic. The new and expanded Verdana Pro family contains 20 fonts in total. The Verdana Pro and Verdana Pro Condensed families each contain 10 fonts: Light, Regular, Semibold, Bold and Black (each with matching italic styles).Verdana exhibits characteristics derived from the pixel rather than the pen, the brush or the chisel. The balance between straight, curve and diagonal were meticulously tuned to ensure that the pixel patterns at small sizes are pleasing, clear and legible. Commonly confused characters, such as the lowercase i j l, the uppercase I J L and the number 1, have been carefully drawn for maximum individuality - an important characteristic of fonts designed for on-screen use. Another reason for the legibility of the Verdana fonts on the screen is their generous width and spacing.Designed by David Berlow and David Johnathan Ross of the Font Bureau, with typographic consultation by Matthew Carter, the new Verdana Pro includes a variety of advanced typographic features including true small capitals, ligatures, fractions, old style figures, lining tabular figures and lining proportional figures. An OpenType-savvy application is required to access these typographic features. The expanded weights and completely new condensed range of fonts provide designers with an expanded palette of typographic options for use in print and on-screen, in both small text sizes and headlines.

ITC Deelirious is the first typeface of Dee Densmore-D'Amico and its name comes from the astounding number of D's packed into her name. The design came from her own handwriting. The differences between capital and lowercase letters are sometimes arbitrary, but this characteristic and the many alternate letterforms give ITC Deelirious the spontaneity and naturalness of true handwriting.

Bobbi Bee won't stop popping her bubblegum, even though that's not very ladylike.

 Bobbi Bee is very proud of all of her 361 numbers, letters and alternates - all of which are chock full of summer sunshine and life. The font comes in a single weight (because she's perfect just the way she is.) She's cut out for a very special book title, logotype, or love letter. Keep Bobbi's hand firmly in yours in shopping malls, as she tends to get distracted and wander, and though it's hard, always remember to tell her how smart she is, as well as how beautiful.

Here is another design by jewelry designer Max Joseph Gradl. Zier is a verb, meaning to decorate, adorn or ornament; zierlich means decorative, elegant, fine, neat. Schrift means type. Zierschrift, therefore, means decorative type. Gradl Zierschriften is a decorative type in the Art Nouveau style, rather than the more ornate Victorian style. Very modern, very young, with an elegant simplicity of form. Maria Makela, in her book The Munich Secession (Princeton 1990) suggests that the frequent use of simple, flowing, organic forms that was so characteristic of Art Nouveau was a reaction against the growing complexity and rapid urbanization that resulted from 19th century industrialization. In keeping with that reaction is the hand-drawn quality that intentionally rejects a mechanistic mathematic precision of line rendering. Gradl Zierschriften preserves that hand-drawn quality. Designed with upper case only, this face was obviously intended for short headlines only and is best set at 18 points or larger. However, I don't think you really get to experience the grace of this design until you get to 36 points or more. In the larger sizes, it is simply stunning. Please note that while most of the uppercase letterforms are repeated in the lower case for convenience, the ‘F’,‘L’ and ‘T’ are rendered a little narrower than in the uppercase to provide for visual variety. The font also includes a generous supply of ligatures for just the right fit ... and just for the fun of using them. Three common ways of inserting a ligature, accented letter or other special character are: 1) Key in “ALT”+“0”+[ascii #]; for example ALT+0233 for the e-acute, 2) From within your application program, go to the INSERT menu and look for something like “Insert Symbol,” (this function is NOT available in all application programs) & 3) Cut & Paste from the CHARACTER MAP display that has been supplied by every generation of Windows Operating System that I can recall (All Programs>Accessories>System Tools). Isn't it amazing what you can do? Don't be afraid to experiment. If you back up your work, you have very little to lose and a lot to gain. Not only do you acquire a new tool, but by the very process you have learned how to continually expand your knowledge and skill base.

Hesse Antiqua is the very first typeface designed by Gudrun Zapf von Hesse. It was a pioneering project originally created by her over 70 years ago as a set of brass punches to stamp into leather book covers and spines at the Bauer Type Foundry in Germany. In celebration of her 100th birthday on 2 January 2018, Ferdinand Ulrich and the Monotype Studio team collaborated with her to bring her brass punches to live as a digital font. Hesse Antiqua was developed with careful considerations and decisions to capture the nuance of the beautiful letterforms as they originally appeared in gold and blind stampings. We are pleased to introduce this modern OpenType typeface featuring a proper set of capitals and small capitals, figures, punctuation and some ornaments as well. Hesse Antiqua is best used at 36 points and above, as the designer intended.

Amaro is the Italian word for bitter (amaro) herbal drinks like Ramazotti, Averna and a trillion lesser known ones. These liquors were the literal base for this elaborate set of four fonts. Each has different uppercase letters and some of the lowercase letters vary as well. Amaro-A, B, and C can be mixed freely. The Amaro-D has underlining swashes in two different lengths, the uppercase has the shorter underlines and the lowercase the longer ones. Sandbox was inspired by designs created by the Robert D. DeLittle Foundry in York, England, sometime after 1888. At the time, the fonts were simply grouped under the title #260 in the DeLittle catalog. This new font family was completely redrawn and engineered by Steve Jackaman, and several additional weights were designed to give the family improved flexibility. Sandbox was given its new name because it showcases a playful and bold feel, and contains many fun alternate characters and ligatures. It excels in display, but can still lend a carefree feel to subhead and text sizes.

Calps is a condensed sans serif font. An unfussy design, the font is designed to be consistent across such letters as a, b, d, q, p, g and C, G, O, Q, creating a uniformity for the set. Each corner of the line is carved to decrease its sharpness, adding a touch of friendliness. If the standard font is not sufficiently condensed, there is a slim variation offering narrower proportions. In addition to the slim variation, the font also comes in roman and italic versions in 9 weights, offering a total of 36 variations for the font.

This is derived from the Marder, Luce foundry's face called Rivet. A nip and a tuck here and there plus the addition of a lowercase make this into a potentially useful font.
