The name of this font brings back memories of an old fried chicken restaurant in Willow Springs Illinois circa 1960’s and 1970’s, my family would all get in the car and take a long drive down to an old country road Illionis Rt 171 through a forest preserve where we’d come upon the old Willowbrook motel with a bar and restaurant next door. The restaurant was called Kegal’s, when you entered the building you had to walk through the smoky bar first to get to the restaurant, I can still see the hard wood floors with all the finish worn off from decades of foot traffic. Up until the mid 1960’s Kegal’s used to raise their own chickens behind the restaurant, back then fried chicken in the Midwest was either coated in flour or bread crumbs, Kegal’s was covered in a beautiful layer of golden bread crumbs. Before your meal arrived they’d bring a basket of dinner rolls along with crackers, bread sticks and country butter, on the side they’d serve coleslaw with a vinegar sauce, which is very common in the Midwest, the first time you try it your face puckers up like you just sucked on a lemon but you get used it over time. After waiting for what seemed like forever to a child the waitress comes out of the kitchen with a huge tray of that golden deliciousness and your mouth begins to water, in her other hand was another tray filled to overflowing with crinkle cut french fries all made by hand, I’d eat a hole handful of those french fries first then take a bite of that tender juicy farm raised chicken. Today a fine Italian restaurant occupies the old Kegal’s building and the motel is long gone, only my fond memories remain. Fast forward to 2020 and FontMesa has just made some Fried Chicken as an eight weight type font family with alternates. A sign of something better When designer Stuart de Rozario surveyed the fonts used in signage on London’s public transport systems, he reached a dead end. They seemed staid, sterile, lacking in personality, and ill-suited to use by modern brands. He was pointed in another direction entirely. ‘The driving force behind my thoughts was to design something more current and fresh without compromising legibility and clarity. A font with both personality and function, that’s versatile and large and small sizes, and effortless to read, but which also says something new.’ Speed reading Late for a meeting and can’t find your way? Trying to catch a flight? Lost in a hospital? Reading signs is a different business to reading a book or a newspaper. Text on signs needs to be deciphered quickly and effortlessly. So the legibility criteria for signage letterforms are different to those for normal reading, too. Throughout FS Millbank’s uppercase and lowercase alphabets, characters have been given features for extra definition, including: wide ink traps on the A, K, M, V, W, X and Y; a serifed i, accentuated spurs on the a, d, l u; and different x-height shapes on the b, g, p and q. Distinctive forms and generous, open internal shapes all help the quick reading of sign text, and wide, open terminals and counters allow similar letter shapes to be distinguished easily when viewed at different angles. Running down a corridor, maybe... Positive/negative Standard type tends to glow on the kind of dark backgrounds often used for signage, and look heavier than its true weight. To correct the imbalance caused by this optical trick, special weights of the typeface have to be drawn for these ‘negative’, light-on-dark applications. These are lighter than their comparable positive weights to overcome the ‘glow’ effect. After extensive tests of the negative weights, at all sizes, we achieved the right optical balance. Glowing, glowing, gone. Icons This wouldn’t be a signage typeface without its own set of icons, or symbols, to help people find what they’re looking for. So, to sit alongside the positive and negative fonts, we’ve created a comprehensive set of 172 icons, covering a wide range of applications from transport and user interface to information and directional. Designed within the typeface capital height, they sit on the baseline and are spaced centrally.

At this time I found the Album of monograms – a guide for doing handicrafts in families and educational institutions. It was published in St. Petersburg in 18ХХ. Finally, I found an authentic English style monograms set. These monograms are characterized thin swirled lines and lush foliage patterns. I manually redesigned and vectorized two sets of alphabets (narrow and wide) and happy to introduce you Marriage Monograms font. Elida JNL was modeled from an image of some wood type for sale online. Although the type design most likely has its roots in the classic Bodoni, there were a few characters in the original wood type that had a bit of a square or block shape to them. Those characters were modified in order to keep with the overall roundness of the other characters. The name Elida JNL comes from a small town in New Mexico. Available in six styles: Regular, Oblique, Extra Condensed, Extra Condensed Oblique, Ultra Condensed and Mega Condensed.

The hand-lettered title, cast and crew credits for 1943's "Presenting Lily Mars" (starring Judy Garland and Van Heflin) inspired Pocatello JNL, but the name of this typeface has another Judy Garland connection. In the 1954 remake of "A Star is Born", Judy sings of being born in a trunk in a theater located in Pocatello, Idaho. The name of this Midwest town had such a great sound to it, so it was the perfect choice for the font's name. Available in regular, oblique, bold and bold oblique versions.

OTC Eugen is a geometric grotesque with industrial socialist aspect. It is a somewhat brute interpretation of the graphic environment and old era typography found around cities or in the country side in Romania. It works best as a display typeface used in big titles, in branding projects for clear wordmarks, or around the house where you can just go wild and make your own mark with the stencil version. Two styles: Display & Stencil. Various stylistic and contextual alternates, and a considerable amount of ligatures, arrows and more. Language support for: Basic Latin, Western, Central & Eastern European languages.

Designer Nick Curtis found the inspiration for this typeface on a 1920s poster for a German bookseller, by Berlin poster artist Paul Scheurich. ITC Jeepers retains the spontaneity and playfulness of Scheurich's original lettering and adds a few surprises of its own, one being the somewhat exclamatory ear on the lowercase "g". It was, in fact, the excited look of this particular character that gave rise to the font's name. Not to be outdone, the exclamation point takes on an even more startling demeanor. The monoweight, slab serif design has a friendly personality, perfect for headlines and other display uses.

The Flowers Family is a collection of 3 typefaces in two weights, meticulously drawn by British designer Roy Preston. The Flowers fonts share a common clean and narrow design, with oval-shaped rounds and distinctive individual letter shapes that give each font a unique character all their own. Flowers Petal is the base typeface, essentially a sanserif with rounded terminal ends. An elegant, contemporary and quirky handwriting font inspired by fonts such as Satisfaction and Nothing. What I've always wanted was to write in an elegant, casual yet legible style: something which my own hand often refuses to do. So I set out to produce the handwriting of my dreams - this font. LP Bambus is another new handwriting script written with bamboo from German designer Peter Langpeter (lp-design.de). LP has been running his own design studio since 1995, working as a typeface and logo designer, as a calligrapher, cartographer and illustrator. During this time LP created a large number of excellent new typeface designs. Now, we are extremely happy that LP has chosen to let URW digitally produce and market his designs.

Tuff began with Magma. Set as text, they appear to be similar and are quite comfortable as typographic companions. The child-safe softness of Tuff owes something to the letterforms of the earliest extant Greek Manuscript, The Persae by Timotheos in the 4th Century BC. It is beholden to Morris Fuller Benton's original Souvenir, and its revival by Ed Benguiat. My own Stone Informal was also an influence.

It is more expressive and it has its own personality. It was renovated with five new weights that bring more flexibility to use the typeface in different mediums. DF Korolev is a 72 weight geometric sans serif family based on lettering by an anonymous Soviet graphic designer from the propaganda displays at the Communist Red Square parade in 1937. It has been named in honor of Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov, or Korolev, considered by many to be the father of practical astronomics. Rational and robust, it is also elegant and refined. Tracings done in Illustrator over a photograph featuring this type pinned down some of the basic character shapes. These were then imported into FontLab, where the full glyph complement was developed. The lower-case has been designed from scratch, and adheres to the structural logic of the uppercase as closely as possible. The complete Korolev super-family includes standard, italic, condensed, and compressed versions, each in five weights. The Alternate families come with a double-story “a”. Diverda Sans is a geometric family of typefaces that are all free from ornament. Swiss designer Daniel Lanz optimized Diverda Sans for maximum legibility. In contrast to many other modern typefaces, which try to squeeze the traditional rounder forms of the alphabet into square designs, and which often attempt to equalize the widths of the capital letters, Diverda Sans remains true to the proper proportions of the Roman alphabet. The x-heights of Diverda's characters are low, and the differences between curved, square, and triangular elements are very clear. Like the more calligraphic typefaces of the past, Diverda's strokes exhibit contrast that is inspired by movements of the pen on paper; down strokes are heavier than up strokes. Possible applications for the Diverda Sans include magazine design, as well as advertising for fashion, design, or architectural products. The 1765 Stamp Act ignited in American colonists a simmering distrust of the distant British Parliament, whose oppressive trade duties they deemed unfair assaults on their rights as English subjects. Before long, of course, this little dustup spawned The Boston Tea Party, the American Revolution, and the birth of the U. S. of A. But before the Battles of Lexington and Concord, a group of Philadelphia merchants made one last-ditch call for commercial cooperation across the Atlantic. This futile appeal survives to this day on a three-page broadside, finely engrossed by a penman of the period and passed down through the generations of a family named Remsen. Remsen Script is an interpretation of that penman’s neat, formal cursive—from its broad antique flourishes to its subtle unevenness and gently ragged strokes. Alien Alphabet is inspired by the ideas of change, transformation, creative deconstruction and mutual penetration of various cultures, languages, and opposing cognitive systems, which seem to be prevalent in our 'globalized' civilization. It appears as various visual constructs -- archetypal symbolism, pieces of the world alphabets, socio-cultural icons, mathematical formulae, etc., -- broke down into pieces and were reassembled in a way that carried traces of previous meanings. However, this contradictory mutation invokes enigmatic meanings and emotions begging for further definition and interpretation. Alien Alphabet shapes arranged in linear sequential manner tend to evoke a sense of written language. The fact that a message cannot be understood does not really change its emotional appeal. Moreover, the less message can be deciphered, the more seems to be the appeal -- for it triggers our imagination. In fact, we may not want to know the actual meaning because deep inside we are afraid that this might be just another alien dry-cleaning receipt.

These are taken right from the original source material, an extremely rare 1910 catalog of an English wood type maker called Day & Collins in London. As the name says it, these words are intended to attract attention, to spice up posters, packaging or advertisement designs. I made these available for the digital age, leaving the original texture of printed wood type at the highest detail possible.
