Legestue is danish and means playroom. But perhaps that translation is too direct. Legestue is a place where you can come with your kids and play with other kids. Kinda like a kindergarten, but in much smaller scale. I attended a Legestue when my kids were like 2 years old. But that's a looong time ago! I like the idea of just dropping by and see who's playing and who's around. And the same goes for this font - each letter is off and different, and quite playful. Also, the letters has a crunchy outline, which made me think of some of the cookies I ate at the Legestue :)

Artisinal, not to be confused with the term artisanal, is our revival of the Art Deco typeface known as Cubist Bold, by John W. Zimmerman for Barnhardt Bros. & Spindler in 1929, breathes new life into a classic. The 1920 song “Noah’s Wife Lived a Wonderful Life (‘Cause Noah Had to Stay Home)” is another example of one of those overly-worded song titles from early 20th Century composers. What’s more important for type enthusiasts is that the title was hand lettered with a round nib pen in a slightly ragged Art Nouveau style. Cleaning up the ragged design, the end result became Nouveau Showcard JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Kiddo is a whimsical, handwritten font family created for use along side children's media. It pairs nicely with Monterrat and other neat, rounded sans serif fonts. Day’s 1910 classic, Alphabets Old and New, the author presented the inspiration for this typeface as an example of German monumental lettering, most likely to suggest not that the typeface was really big, but that it had been found on German monuments. Jus Hangin was inspired by the lettering on the cover of the 1999 Counting Crows album, “This Desert Life”. It was one of those child-like lettering styles that was just begging to be fleshed out and made into a typeface that was as wild and carefree as the lettering inspiration. With an open spacing format, and an exuberant baseline bounce, Jus Hangin is fun to typeset with, while alternates and double letter ligatures keep things from getting repetitive. This is Ekamai, named after the district of Bangkok I lived in. It is based on Quinella, and was supposed to be a quick and easy reworking of that font into a "tight-not-touching" (rather than overlapping) version. As is often the case with quick and easy things, it turned out to be neither, and the vast majority of glyphs needed to be completely overhauled to fit the new system. This face is deliciously plump face, with lovingly rendered curves and just the right amount of cuteness; perfect for food packaging (of the sweeter variety probably!), logos, magazine headlines and the like. It performs admirably in all caps settings. The numerals are expressive hybrid figures (somewhere between lining and oldstyle). The overall feel is friendly and soft, without being overtly saccharine. Ekamai is equipped with subtle contextual alternates (which I'd recommend leaving on) to help with the tight fit, a handful of discretionary ligatures if that's your thing, and a case feature for all caps settings. The stylistic alternates and stylistic set 1 features simply change the # glyph to an attractive numero. Automatic fractions are included along with wide-ranging language support.
