Based on a specimen of an obscure and uncredited old face called Kitterland, Hamlet is one of those curiosities hardly ever noticed in the world of modern fonts, the kind that infuses a variety of historic Blackletter and calligraphy traits in an otherwise Roman alphabet. Such typefaces, what few of them exist, are almost always classified by typophiles as traditional decorative Roman alphabets. We beg to differ. We think such hybrids are fascinating enough to deserve a classification of their own. And we think today's aspiring letterers and type designers would benefit from paying special attention to this kind of hybrid alphabet, not only because it has much more hand than machine in it, but also because it is a prime example of how to succeed in mixing different lettering techniques into one self-contained and distinctly functional alphabet. As in any efficient mixture of lettering methods, Hamlet ended up with characters that are uniquely its own, such as the cupped A, M, V, W and Y, the very luscious and inviting curves on the arms of E, F, L and T, both single- and double-story forms of the a, and the humblest, friendliest g and y ever. A dozen alternate characters are sprinkled throughout the character set, so check out the map for a few pleasant surprises. We also made the Handtooled and Headstone styles because we thought these friendly forms were just crying out for such treatments. The Handtooled version turned out quite lovely, if we may say so ourselves, perhaps even better than the main font. The Headstone version is available as a free bonus to those who purchase the complete Hamlet package. All Hamlet styles come with lining figures as well as old style ones. Hamlet comes in all popular font formats. The OpenType fonts contain push-button swapping alternates and figures, which come in handy in software programs that support this kind of thing.

Typographer and graphic designer Pavel Teimer (1935-1970) designed a modern serif roman with italics in 1967. For the drawing of Teimer he found inspiration in the types of Walbaum and Didot, rather than Bodoni. He re-evaluated these archetypes in an individual way, adjusting both height and width proportions and modifying details in the strokes, thus effectively breaking away from the historical models he used as a starting point. Teimer's antiqua has less contrast; the overall construction of the characters is softer and more lively. The proportions of the italics are rather wide, making them stand out by their calm and measured rhythm. This was defined by the purpose of the typeface, as it was to be utilised for two-character matrices. The long serifs are a typical feature noticeable throughout the complete family of fonts. In 1967, a full set of basic glyphs, numerals and diacritics of Teimer's antiqua was submitted to the Czechoslovak Grafotechna type foundry. However, the face was never cast. At the beginning of 2005 we decided to rehabilitate this hidden gem of Czech typography. We used the booklet "Teimer's antiqua - a design of modern type roman and italics", written by Jan Solpera and Kl‡ra Kv’zov‡ in 1992, as a template for digitisation. The specimen contains an elementary set of roman and italics, including numerals and ampersands. After studying the specimen, we decided to make certain adjustments to the construction of the character shapes. We slightly corrected the proportions of the typeface, cut and broadened the serifs, and slightly strengthened the hair strokes. In the upper case we made some significant changes in the end serifs of round strokes in C, G and S, and the J was redrawn from the scratch. The top diagonal arm of the K was made to connect with the vertical stem, while the tail of Q has received a more expressive tail. The stronger hairlines are yet more apparent in the lower case, which is why we needed to further intervene in the construction of the actual character shapes. The drawing of the f is new, with more tension at the top of the character, and the overall shape of the g is better balanced. We also added an ear to the j, and curves in the r have become more fluent. To emphasise the compact character of the family, the lining numerals were thoroughly redrawn, with the finials being replaced by vertical serifs. The original character of the numerals was preserved in the new set of old-style figures. To make the uppercase italics as compact as possible, they were based on the roman cut rather than on the original design. The slope of lowercase italics needed to be harmonised. The actual letter forms are still broader than the characters in the original design, and the changes in construction are more noticeable. The lower case b gained a bottom serif, the f has a more traditional shape as it is no longer constricted by the demands of two-matrice casting, the g was redrawn and is a single storey design now. The serifs on one side of the descenders of the p and q were removed, the r is broader and more open. The construction of s, v, w, x, y, and z is now more compact and better balanced. Because Teimer was designed to make optimal use of the OpenType format, it was deemed necessary to add a significant amount of new glyphs. The present character set of one font comprisess over 780 glyphs, including accented characters for typesetting of common Latin script languages, small caps and a set of ligatures, tabular, proportional, old style and lining, superscript and fraction numerals. It also contains a number of special characters, such as arrows, circles, squares, boxed numerals, and ornaments. Because of its fine and light construction, the original digitised design remained the lightest of the family. Several heavier weights were added, with the family now comprising Light, Light Italic, Medium, Medium Italic, Semibold, Semibold Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic.

Caslon1821 is a revived "Italian" typeface of foundry Caslon & Livermore, 1821. The typeface quickly extended across Europe and America. It came to Russia and became very popular from France in the 30s of the XIX century. It's Cyrillic versions were offered by typefoundries of Revillion and Co., Pluchard, Semen, etc. In our version we also added support for Hebrew (with vowels).

By 1915, all the major foundries offered families of sans serifs, sometimes called Gothic in the USA. Franklin was a response suitable for countries in the vanguard of the machine age. Designed by Morris Benton in 1903-1912, Franklin has preserved its own personality ever since. The ITC Franklin Gothic font family is a redrawing by ITC that keeps the original strength intact, meeting the demand for a strong typeface. ITC Franklin Gothic is better read in display sizes and considered a standard in the newspaper and advertising fields.

Taler is a serif typeface is represented by seven weights. It was conceived as a continuation of the sans-serif Nekst. In the process of design it became clear that it is a completely different typeface. The rectangular, slightly elongated serifs, the plastic stiffness, and the combination of different styles make Taler a true representative of contemporary. It's old-fashioned and modern, it's for a display titles and for plain text, it's rough and elegant — it's all present in design at the same time. The duality of it nature is it peculiarity.

I have completely redone the spacing in this font, making the sidebearings more conventional. And after replacing the kerning with fresh pairs working together with the new spacing the font looks like a real gem. I love it! The inline version has a wider spacing after the letters CEK = no connecting words. Otherwise just as lovely and retro! Nick Curtis says: "Here’s a strange hybrid: I took the lower case from the formal script font Stuyvesant, straightened out its rather extreme 22° slant, and combined them with caps from the font Bellevue, again making them upright, and adding an inline effect. The result is a font that flows very nicely, with a nice balance between clean lowercase characters and swashy caps. Thanks to Deb Dunbar for naming this font. The dearJoe series of fonts came to life around the year 1999, when I created dearJoe 1, which was a first (and half-assed) attempt to convert my own handwriting into a working font. Being able to type in my own hand had always been a childhood fantasy, and even though I only partly understood the software, a working font was generated and I decided to put it on the internet for people to use in their own personal projects. Which they did: at this moment the dearJoe 1 font has been downloaded millions of times and can be found on Vietnamese riksjas, Tasmanian gyms and chocolate stores on 5th Avenue for instance. The font is not something I am particularly proud of, but it started me of in building what's now the JOEBOB graphics foundry. Inbetween creating other fonts, the dearJoe series has become a theme I revisit every once in a while, trying to create an update on how my handwriting has evolved, along with my abilities in creating fonts that mimic actual handwriting. In the last decade or so I started implementing ligatures and alternate characters, which helped a lot in coming to a result that can almost pass for actual handwriting. The 2019 dearJoe 7 font is the latest addition to this font family. All characters were scanned from handwritten notes, cherrypicking the characters and letter-combinations I liked best. They were written with a Lamy M66 B pen and only minor adjustments were made to the original scans, leaving most little flaws and rough edges as they were for a convincing ball-point on paper result. The font comes with over 150 ligatures, making sure the font has a variated and credible overall look and feel.

Elongated Roman is a Didone-style serif typeface. It was originally designed in 1950 by typographers at Stephenson Blake. After International TypeFounders, Inc. acquired exclusive licensing rights to the Stephenson Blake Collection, Steve Jackaman (ITF) digitally revived the typeface in 1997 for the Red Rooster Collection. Much like other Didone typefaces, Elongated Roman’s strong contrast between thick and thin strokes and hairline serif design strengthen its elegance as a “modern face.” Unlike other Didone typefaces in the Red Rooster Collection, Elongated Roman was designed with display size in mind thanks to its strong variance in stroke weight.

SGT PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB is a typeface inspired by the capital letters on the bass drum in the Beatles' Sgt Pepper album cover. The original lettering was hand painted by fairground artist Joe Ephgrave during March 1967 in an art deco style he called 'futuristic'. The font completes the uppercase, adds a lowercase, and includes a full complement of over 400 characters. SGT PEPPERS OUTLINE and SGT PEPPERS OUTLINE FILL are two fonts with matching spacing and kerning that can be overlapped for creating bicolor/multicolor effects and faux drums. The Outline and Outline Fill fonts do not contain lowercase characters, instead they comprise two weights of outline capitals as painted on the Sgt Pepper drum. The uppercase letters are in the wider style from around the outer edge of the drum, and the lowercase keys deliver the more condensed 'Lonely Hearts' inline style from the middle of the drum. The uppercase Y has been flipped to produce a more conventionally acceptable character with the thicker diagonal arm on the left. However, Joe Ephgrave's reverse Y (with inline) is included in the Outline fonts at the Section keystroke § (Alt-0167 on Windows). Paradise Lost is a 1667 poem by John Milton which mostly concerns the Biblical story of the Fall of Man, Eve's temptation by the devil and the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden. It's quite a hefty read, as the poem consists of ten books with over 10.000 lines of verse. Needless to say, I didn't read it all. But, it did give me inspiration for a font, which I called Paradise Lost. It's a good name, even though there is nothing Biblical about this font. Paradise Lost was created (pun intended) using a broken bamboo satay skewer and Chinese ink. It is all caps, but upper and lower case differ and like to mingle. I also included several ligatures for double lower case letters (aa, ee, jj, kk, etc.). Paradise Lost comes with an eternity of diacritics.
