FF Signa is a typically Danish typeface, rooted in architectural lettering rather than book typography. Originally designed for signage—hence the name—FF Signa is now a typographic family with three widths. All weights include italics, small caps, and several styles of figures. Because of the quality of this “vernacular-lettering-into-typeface” conversion, FF Signa received a Danish Design Prize in 2002. FF Signa is radically different from most sans serif text typefaces that were published during the 1990s. It neither belongs in the “humanist sans” category, nor is it on the list of typefaces based on 19th-century grotesques. Its concise letterforms and a minimum of detail produce clear and harmonious word images. Yet its proportions are classical, and the underlying geometry has been subtly adjusted in order to create letterforms which are at once interesting, harmonious, and contemporary. These features make FF Signa pleasant for reading, even at very small sizes. The typeface has developed into a versatile family, with Condensed, Extended, and Correspondence versions. Later on Signa Serif, Stencil variants and a Signa Slab family added even more versatility. The Artvod font family is a graduate project of Dusan Jelesijevic on the topic Museum of Digital Art. The whole project included a 15 minute interactive presentation through building of Artvod Museum, consisting of 15 posters and the font in two weights (Regular and Bold). An ad in the April 19, 1919 edition of Motion Picture News for the (now lost) silent drama "Josselyn's Wife" featured some wonderfully stylized Art Nouveau hand lettering. Primarily a condensed character set with rounded serifs, there are a number of letters that take liberties in both width and character shape. Adding to this, [mostly vertical] parallel lines are cut through the characters to create a "striped' type of "double engraved' effect. Alf Becker graced many issues of “Signs of the Times” (a trade magazine for the sign industry) with his innovative hand lettered alphabets for others to use as design inspirations. His 134th submission was titled “Post Card Type”, a condensed thick-and-thin stylized Art Deco design. This served as the inspiration for Tourist Postcard JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. Thanks to Tod Swormstedt of S.T. Media Group and the American Sign Museum for providing the work image for this type revival.

The 1960 British film “Beat Girl” (released in the U.S. as “Wild for Kicks”) was a typical [for its time] story of a teenage girl looking to have some fun by hanging out with SoHo beatniks and going against parental authority. One of the posters for the film features the title in a condensed slab serif stencil form, with eroded edges. The basic letter forms were smoothed out and cleaned up resulting in Jazz Beat Stencil JNL, which is available as in both regular and oblique versions.

Ingram BT might be described as Deco, or Arts & Crafts, in style. Created by Alex Marshall, it is a very condensed design with high-waisted uppercase glyphs that feature dots rather than straight lines for the middle hairlines.
