The place where is the castle is steeped in history. Its roots date back to the Lombard kingdom (seventh century); later it was under the rule of Monaldeschi (1200-1700) and more recently (1880) the property of the rich French banker Count Edoardo Cahen of Antwerp, who was responsible for the present aspect of the Castle. Alfina Notte is the bold version of Alfina, a type with soft lines, very slender upper cases and thin overlapping strokes; The stylistic alternates are particularly important, and the type is enriched by many, different OpenType features.

For much of the world, the last half of December encompasses the beginning of winter and the a season of gift-giving, marked by Hanukkah and Christmas. It is generally accepted that the tradition of giving of gifts at this time was begun by The Three Wisemen. As described in The Gospel According to Matthew, the wisemen, led by a star from a distant land to the east, found the baby Jesus. First, they worshipped him and then, "they presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh." (Matthew 2:11). Thus began the tradition of celebrating the birth of Christ with the giving of gifts. A backstory with a different name Years ago, I was commissioned to take my Lust typeface and produce something unique to use for large format graphics for an event…cool. It needed to be hyper-contrast with a lot of over-the-top details. With a tight turnaround, I looked for primers within my development catalogue to help me, and settled on some early work on a typeface I had drawn called Hedonist. I used those sketches and its conventions to retrofit and build out Lust Hedonist (only to see the project go bust on the client’s end). I intended to go back shortly after the Lust Hedonist release to finalize a retail version of the OG Hedonist, but I never could settle on the look of the 'g' or the numerals, got distracted with other projects, and never picked it back up… until last year. After randomly doodling a fat, flat ‘g’ with an extremely tilted counter axis, I knew immediately how it could be used and that (re)set things in motion. Only problem was, in the process of refining the letterforms I began truly dissecting the pieces, rediscovering all of the recklessness within Hedonist, and decided on fundamentally rewriting the approach to the typeface… literally flaying it to the bone. I’m much, much happier with this finished typeface now, but the name no longer fit the moniker given to the first, adolescent approach—there’s far more audacity and cleverness in these letterforms, tenacious in their resolution now. As a result, the name Courage fit the mettle of this typeface so much more, so I kept it.

This monospaced version of Galix was commissioned in 2037 by the space exploration company Earth2, as part of a major overhaul of their branding, which had used, since 2021, a generic sans serif (much like every other company). Many specialists in both design and space exploration suggested that this very rebrand started a chain of events that concluded with the invention of time travel in 2041. Contrary to the perceived notion put forward in popular Science Fiction, time travel is only (as of now) possible in the digital realm. It was considered fitting that included among the first files sent back in time should be the Galix Mono typeface, which was remade in OTF format to ensure that it would work with the technology available in 2019. Earth2, for all their insight, did not foresee that the release of the typeface in September of 2019, would lessen the impact of their rebrand. What kind idiots would rebrand a forward looking company with a font that was, by then, almost 18 years old? The subsequent lacklustre response to the redesign didn’t inspire the tidal wave of R&D funding Earth2 had anticipated, and the company went into administration in the summer of 2039, having never invented the time travel which made the release of Galix Mono in 2019 possible. Experts believe that the files sent back in time, although their very sending made it impossible for them to be sent, remained as “time relics” of the future that might have been.

The idea was to find common intersections between the humanistic and the neo-grotesque model of sans. This variable font offers everything from the world of sans serif in one place – a broad range of weights, adjustable contrast, and a lot of alternative glyphs. As a bonus, you can choose the “cold” or “warm” impact of the text. The Cosan Cold variant has closed apertures and minimal tension in the manner of Helvetica, and the Cosan Warm is open, more dynamic, and airy. Cosan is very suitable for a parallel bilingual setting, as both types are equivalent in their proportions and text color. Like Yin and Yang, each has a piece of the other in him. The Warm version is not totally dynamic, nor is the Cold version totally rigid.

Kaleko 105 is inspired by the classic, geometric sans-serifs such as Gill Sans, but has shallower ascenders and descenders for a more compact look. It’s a well-balanced, versatile, modern sans, highly legible as a text font and with a clean, elegant look as a display font at larger sizes. It includes old style non-aligning (lower case) numbers, both proportional and tabular as well as accented characters for Central European languages. The Kaleko 105 family comprises of six weights, and is closely related to Kaleko 205. The most notable differences between the two variations, are the single-storey lower case a and g in Kaleko 105, where they are two-storey in Kaleko 205.

The revival of this 1932 classic design by W. Schwerdtner for the Stempel Foundry in Germany brings back the fashion and culture of those bygone days. Wedge-shaped vertical strokes are thicker at the top than at the bottom while serifs are somewhat elongated, thin, and pointy. Here is an excellent choice for large display settings where capturing the spirit of the 1920s and 30s is important. Metropolis SG is also available in the OpenType Std format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version. Advanced features currently work in Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress 7. Check for OpenType advanced feature support in other applications as it gradually becomes available with upgrades.

The concept for ‘Scroll’ came to me fully formed when setting out to design a bold display typeface. The premise for this was to base the letter-forms on a rolled strip of paper. A simple enough idea in principle but one I hadn't seen before. After working out the basic characters I set about completing the full effect I was after. This was achieved by applying a suitably incised line following the curve at each turning point to convey the important three-dimensional aspects of a scroll. Although the phonetic name personifying the font was there as a working title from the outset, I didn't commit to it fully until everything was completely resolved.

This Font is born basing itself on several standard typographic models. Inspired by our calligraphic drawings, the idea was to synthesize these many shapes into a unique font that can be used commonly. The slab base has been gradually humanized. The serifs have been carved, refined, rounded off, in order to galvanize the font and ease the task of reading in lower case. The angle of attack of the round letters is an echo of the 15 Century typographic heritage. It was important for us to create an expressive and humanized font, which could also be used for edition. The purpose was to confront the Ancient typographic canon of beauty with some funny and fancyful elements.

Crisis is a child of the dictatorship of economics. Since time is money the time budget of its production has been rigidly limited. Crisis was designed and generated completely on one single day. The target was to make a useful font while investing nothing more than absolutely indispensable. The component-based glyph construction scheme of another font has been utilized, further detailing work has been strictly limited. Due to those restrictions some letters have rather unusual shapes. This straightforward and contemporary sans (320 glyphs) is of compact proportions and very legible even when set in small sizes. In printing you get more text on one page and thus save up to 30% of paper.
