Aure Zeritha emotes the unassuming charm of fairytale romance. The modestly adorned forms of this decorative serif font engage the reader with a subtext of innocence. Zeritha is an original design developed by Aurora Isaac, first released in the LP glyphset in 2011. After more than a decade in development, 2018 marks the release of the CJ and KB glyphsets, available in regular, italic, bold, and bold-italic. The CJ glyphset is a full text font supporting a variety of European languages. A matching set of small-caps complements the extended lowercase and uppercase glyphsets. Supporting glyphs include standard ligatures, four variations of the ampersand, and check-mark and happy-face with their companions x-mark and grumpy-face. Numbers are available in lining, oldstyle, and small versions, with numerators and denominators for forming fractions. Aptifer Sans and Aptifer Slab are two 21st century typeface families created by Mårten Thavenius. Each family has seven weights, in roman and italic respectively, making 28 font styles in total. A heritage from two design traditions can be seen in Aptifer. One is the robust American gothic typefaces, like M. F. Benton’s, from around 1900. This is combined with the openness and legibility that comes from the humanist tradition. The sans serif part of the family, Aptifer Sans, is designed without excessive details disturbing the reading. Its sibling, Aptifer Slab, with its wedge slab serifs is more eye-catching but still suited for text settings. The italics fit well into the text flow of the roman. They are a bit narrower than the roman and have cursive characteristics. Both Aptifer Sans and Aptifer Slab are highly legible typefaces and can be used both in print and on screen.

The Vale Press was a contemporary of Willam Morris's Kelmscott Press. The types used by the Vale Press were designed by artist Charles Ricketts, who also supervised the design and printing of Vale Press books. The main type used, Vale, was based on the Jenson 15th century roman type style. The King's Fount was an experimental semi-uncial font based on the Vale type. The King's Fount was designed in 1903 for the Vale edition of the 15h century poem "The Kingis Quair". This semi-uncial font evokes old English and Anglo-Saxon lettering. P22 Vale Pro combines the two fonts P22 Vale Roman and P22 Vale King's Fount into one "Pro" font. This pro font also includes a Central European character set, old style figures, fractions, ornaments and a special faux "Middle English" feature to make "anee text appeer Olde." This feature is not known to exist in any other font.

The Limine family was designed to give a 3D effect; to look like engraved letters. Those letters are based on the roman capital design.

Many calligraphers agree that Roman Capitals is one of the most beautiful yet difficult hands to master. Its beauty lies in its simplicity of form and structure, yet understanding and applying these skillfully can take years of mindful practice. My goal was to design Roman Capitals that were smoothly designed with a brush, not carved. The main concept was based on the fundamental strokes that are commonly studied when you practice Roman letters. That’s why many Serifs have these unfinished terminal serifs. I created the Turquoise typeface based on my Capitalis Romana practice with a flexible broad edged brush and gouache. During the lowercase process I was still following Foundational calligraphy with a flat brush. My Turquoise Capitals were then adjusted and redesigned at the Tipobrda calligraphy workshop in Slovenia. Turquoise contains small caps, many discretionary ligatures, ornaments, swashes as well as several brushy nature-inspired ornaments, accessible via OpenType. Ideally suited for headlines or body text in advertising, packaging and visual identities, its delicate shapes, curves and endings give projects a harmonious elegance and stylistic feel in unique Turquoise style. My inspiration for this font showcase is one of the richest islands in the Mediterranean, the place where my parents are from, Sicily. This southern Italian region has so many unique spots: Stromboli, part of the Aeolian Islands, and the Pelagie Islands is one of my favorite places in Sicily. Linotype Mateo is part of the Take Type Library, which features the winners of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest from 1994 to 1997. Jürgen Ellenberger included three styles in his font, roman, bold and outline. The characters of Mateo consist exclusively of lines, giving the font an extremely angular look. However, Mateo retains a certain handwritten style somewhat reminiscent of the graffiti left on wooden grade school desks by previous classes. The bold and outline styles have emphasized stroke contrasts but keep the angular, consciously irregular look. The roman style is best for smaller texts and the bold and outlines styles for headlines.

After designing two script fonts (lp Pinselschrift, lp Bambus), Peter Langpeter has now drawn an elegant Antiqua font, namely lp Saturnia, derived and conceived from his work in developing headlines and logos. The aim was to create a modern interpretation of the classical Roman letters (Capitalis Monumentalis or Trajan by Carol Twombly), avoiding the archaic look of these letter forms. Also, the difficulty of spacing characters with excessive forms, such as the long tails of 'K' and 'R', are avoided. Additionally, lp Saturnia also comes with lower case characters. The result is a contemporary and elegant typeface that is more suitable for practical use, without renouncing the classical Roman character.

Gens De Baton is based on a charming lower case alphabet that appeared in the Almanach des Enfants pour 1886 (Paris 1886) under the heading “Amusing Grammar Lessons.” Gens De Baton means simply “Stick People.” The unknown designer turned the bare letter forms into drawings of people for the enjoyment of the children for whom the almanac was intended. The letter forms themselves were based on the French Romain du Roi (King’s Roman), except for the ‘g’ and the ‘j’ -- which were based on Baskerville. The letters ‘w’ and ‘y’ were not included, as they are seldom seen in French. We have left the letters somewhat rough, as they appeared in the Almanach des Enfants , resisting the temptation to clean up all the lines and render them with digital perfection. We have used our HiH Firmin Didot to supply an upper case and auxiliary characters, as Didot was originally a modified version of Romain du Roi. It is interesting to observe the contrast between the polished look of the Didot upper case and the rough, hand-drawn look of the lower case. Purchasers of this font have our permission to use it for the amusement of adults as well as children. We recommend setting Gens De Baton at 24 points or larger.

Metalworker JNL is Jeff Levine's take on a perennial favorite originally known as Eagle, but available under different names over the years. This bold, clean Art Deco font was the basis for Jeff's star-studded National Spirit JNL.

TWT Prospero is the kind of typeface you seldom find in blocks of continuous text these days. Similar fonts based on late-18th-century work by Bodoni, the Didots, and others tend to be reserved for display type: their exaggerated contrast and vanishing hairlines can make you squint and strain at small sizes. But TWT Prospero, with its moderate contrast and fairly robust hairlines, is impressively legible in book text while remaining ideal for use in display situations. Missale Incana is a redesigned, new interpretation of a typeface from Herbert Thannhaeuser. Its a strong calligraphic roman typeface, well suited for headlines. OpenType features:

Crystal is a clean and highly legible slab-serif design. The four roman weights provide strong color accents making it perfect for reports and newsletters.

Based heavily on Gill especially in the mid weights, Astoria has a subtle top left serif which makes it not quite a Roman and not quite a Sans. Designed specifically as a text face it still works very well as a headline font.

This humanist slab-serif style is an extension from Gazeta font family, the letterform are more sharp, racional and mechanical. Italics are having small differences from roman letterforms, the characters are slightly more narrow (weight) and the proportions are less open (width).

The capitals of the Triplett font bare a strong resemblance to Roman inscriptions, while the lowercase alphabet has been drawn with a rounded hand, inspired by the cursive uncial handwriting. Serifs are very small, giving a clean modern look to texts and headings.

FDI Triumph revives Albert Auspurg’s “Triumph” typeface originally released in 1929 by the type foundry Ludwig Wagner in Leipzig. The forgotten design was carefully digitized from the original wood type font and extended to cover the Western codepages Win 1252 and Mac Roman.
