Breakers is a sans serif originally conceived to be a display typeface. Works great in text also, but the diversity in weights is its strong point. It is easy to achieve that high contrast using thin against the ultra weight, but setting tall and lean capitals against the compact and heavy small caps can make really diverse compositions for all kinds of display design. With small caps included, and over 600 glyphs in each weight, it should prove itself useful in finding the right combination for any typographic setting. Breakers has a character set to support Western and Central European languages, and an extended set for monetary symbols. Each weight includes small caps, ligatures, proportional lining and oldstyle numbers, tabular figures, fractions and scientific superior/inferior figures.

Monroe was designed in 2010, but in 2013 the font’s designer stopped selling it. Eight years after its initial release, Monroe returns in a new and upgraded version—with improved drawing and spacing—which includes more weights as well as alternate glyphs. Each font style has 819 glyphs and the whole set contains 394 characters which support 207 Latin-based languages. Monroe also includes 5 stylistic sets that offer a wide range of signs, swashes and discretionary ligatures, all specially made to add aesthetic value to your designs. Sean Henrich ATF is a sharp, rounded geometric display font and works best in text and display applications, such as headline, posters, signage, magazine, product branding, corporate branding, logos and titles. The October 5, 1935 issue of “Universal Weekly” (a publication detailing current film releases from Universal) was promoting the film “Remember Last Night”. Hand lettering used for this advertisement was an ultra-bold sans serif design with chamfered corners and some stylized characters. This is now available digitally as Road Work JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

In 1932, the great American type designer, Morris Fuller Benton was busy directing the creative departments of ATF and designing type. Big on his plate during that period was the development of the Bank Gothic® family among other typefaces like Raleigh Gothic. Bank Gothic and Raleigh Gothic share some very similar design traits. The most obvious difference being the ultra condensed style of Raleigh Gothic. Although the Bank Gothic family was released with a condensed, Raleigh Gothic could have originally been planned as an ultra condensed Bank Gothic but for reasons we can only speculate, the Ultra Condensed Bank became its own design. So, If you like Bank Gothic, you may also like Raleigh Gothic. Separated at birth? Fun to speculate.
