Here’s an intriguing mixture of 1930s deco and modern tech fashion. Travel Kit Medium is a sturdy semi-serif hybrid with one foot in the past and another in the present. It is slightly low-waisted with extended crossbars on the capital A, E, F, H, K, and P. But the capital B, M, R and X are distinctively contemporary with the E and M repeated as unicase letters in the lowercase. Boring Sans, designed by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini, is a typeface family designed along two variable axis: weight and weirdness. These two parameters allow designers to explore a full range of variations on sans serif design, starting from a neutral set of proportions and evolving to a strongly contrasted and dynamic treatment, ready to raise eyebrows on social media. The basic "A" subfamily, developed in in five weights plus italics, behaves like a traditional, solid workhorse sans serif, with finely tuned proportions for optimal readability and minimal emotional impact. I just returned from a short holiday in Japan. I stayed in hostels and small guesthouses and noticed a peculiar thing they all had in common: they love little notes, telling you where to go, what to do, how to use the microwave oven and when to check out. These notes were sometimes printed, but more often they were handwritten. I found that the Japanese way of writing roman characters is a little, well, unusual. The letters are correct, but they have that typical ‘Japanese look’ - most notably the a and A the b, d and g, the p and P and the t and T. I can’t really tell you what makes them look different, maybe it’s the proportions, but I do know that a Nippon Note is highly recognisable. So, here is Nippon Note, a highly recognisable, handmade font. You don’t really have to be in Japan to use it, but it will give your designs that extra cachet. EraMax 123 is a multi-layered display geometric sans serif, meant to be set BIG, for large, colourful statements. It's the perfect face for packaging, posters & branding, where a strong, colourful voice is needed... Did I mention posters? The "Max" in EraMax comes from the ultra bold weight, but also, and mainly as a tip of the hat to Peter Max, the designer and artist, known for creating so many images which have come to be emblematic of the sixties and seventies. The bold gradient effects in some of his posters were the inspiration behind the dotted and striped layers. This font's vintage flavour truly stand out in a retro setting, but also has a modern flavour that lends it the flexibility to work well in a more contemporary context. Andrade is a new typeface designed by Dino dos Santos in 2005. This typeface was inspired in the typographic work of Manoel de Andrade de Figueiredo (b.1670-d.1735), Nova Escola para Aprender a Ler, Escrever e Contar, printed in 1722 at Offcina de Bernardo da Costa de Carvalho. This is one of the most important books, and almost forgotten, about Portuguese calligraphy and typography, and the work of Andrade de Figueiredo is among the most amazing examples of type design of the Eighteenth Century. His work inspired Ventura da Silva, a Portuguese typographer, who in 1803 published a book named Regras Methodicas, where he redesigns some of Figueiredo's type specimens. But Ventura's purpose was to create a more elegant and readable typeface than Didot and Bodoni. This kind of typeface used to be called leitura and is a transition between the baroque and modern typography. Andrade is a brilliant text typeface and is available in Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Ligatures, Ligatures Italic, Swashes and Ornaments. Andrade is my tribute to Portuguese typography and to the work of Manoel de Andrade de Figueiredo in particular.

Youthful Fontsmith received a brief to develop a font that would form part of the broadcast identity for the UK’s first digital Freeview channel – E4. It needed to work seamlessly in text and display, both in print and on-screen, and please the eye of the target audience, 18-34-year-olds. So, young, fresh and informal. No problem. Except for one thing: the timing. Daughter As he worked on FS Maja, Jason Smith was occupied by another imminent deadline: the birth of his third child. The pressure was mounting, but rather than let it get to him, Jason embraced the challenge and made light of the tension, fashioning a bright, bubbly, entertaining type with a personality made for memorable headlines. Neuarc Font Family This is the 20th font family of CozyFonts Foundry, established 10 years ago in 2012 with the release of Aladdin Bold. Neuarc is based loosely on arcs and curves, hence it’s naming. As shown in one of the font posters that serves to showcase this font, a collage of rough sketches is displayed as the poster’s background. These hand drawn pencil drawings were worked and reworked and The final drawings were scanned and built in Adobe Illustrator and transferred to glyph windows, glyph by glyph, in Fontlab 8. The 5 styles, so far, are reminisscent of The Art Deco Era of Design between the 1030s and 1950s. Neuarc also has it’s own footprint with several characters that stand out, eg. A, 8, &, B, ?, $, 5, w, x, a, c, e, etc. giving the reason for the ’Neu’ in the naming. These letterforms & Numbers work extremely well in monograms. Each styles has it’s own personality. From the ultra chic Light style to the dominant cool Bold style, this family maintains a uniform legibility at small to large sizes. Meant primarily for display uses, Neuarc works well for posters, logos, headlines, packaging, branding, signage for a myriad of applications. The Neuarc Deco style font will work well in titles and numbers of any application.

Freundschafts-Antiqua AR is based on a 20th-century German type design. Freundschafts-Antiqua (which was also called Chinesische Antiqua) was designed by the Chinese calligrapher Yü Bing-nan when he was a student at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst at Leipzig in 1960. It was cast in 1964 by VEB Typoart, Dresden, in 9-pt and 28-pt (Didot). The design combines the best German traditions with the Chinese bamboo pen. It is a unique, wholly modern, yet quiet and dignified typeface which is well suited for text-setting in many sizes. The original design was carefully crafted with all non-kerning letters (none of the letters overhangs its side-bearings); the lower-case f was designed so that no ligatures were needed. The AR fonts include the type's ch and ck logotypes, monetary signs and all the standard accents. The letterfit of the original design is retained and, as can be seen in the attached printable .pdf, text composed at normal sizes is very agreeable indeed. Freundschafts-Kursiv AR A features old-style (non-lining) figures and 'kerning' letters; Freundschafts-Kursiv AR B contains lining (cap-height) figures and all non-kerning letters following the original design of the face.

This is my version of the classic DIN 1451 Mittelschrift, complete with a large multilingual character set. I have made it primarily because I want to have a bit of fun with it by experimenting with giving it some very different expressions - far removed from its serious and no-nonsense roots. This Pro version of one of Kimberlys latest cutesy handwriting fonts has received lots of corrections and tweaks to the outlines - to remove autotracing artefacts, stroke width inconsistencies and create a better flow. Hydrargyrum is the Latin form of a Greek word meaning "liquid silver" - mercury. The Hydrargyrum typefaces are designed with characteristics both of a metal and a liquid. The basic shapes of the letters are generally rigid and rectangular (particularly in style C), but the forms are enhanced by fluid curves and gently rounded corners. Hydrargyrum is not recommended for use at small sizes or in lengthy passages of text. It performs best in display-sized settings. Hydrargyrum consists of three styles, each in medium and semibold weights with matching obliques. The A style features solid, standard letterforms including the two-story a and g. Style B substitutes the a, g, M, and N (and related glyphs including numero and trademark symbols) for alternate shapes. The third subfamily takes the rectangular theme to an extreme, eliminating as many slanted strokes as possible from the letterforms. This makes some C-style letters ambiguous with one another, such as the U's and V's. As such, the C style is best used carefully even at larger sizes. The Hydrargyrum fonts are style linked within each style subfamily with, for example, Hydrargyrum A Medium as the regular style, Hydrargyrum A Medium Oblique as the italic, Hydrargyrum A SemiBold as the bold option, etc.

Quayside is a deliciously thick and bulbous baseball script, with a wealth of OpenType features. Features include: Contextual alternates - I would suggest having these on by default; they make letters connect more smoothly (uppercase letters like M and H, which are normally non-connecting for all-caps purposes, connect to lowercase letters. The swash variant of J, and all o and b characters connect to any e character at a lower junction for a smoother join). Contextual alternates also make sure special end-forms of lowercase letters are used at the ends of words. Ligatures - A nice collection of useful ligatures which make the text flow smoother. Swash - Gives you more exuberant capitals. Not recommended for all-caps usage! The swash function also gives a variation of the ampersand and turns # into a nice numero symbol. Oldstyle Figures - lining figures are default but with the flick of a switch in OpenType savvy applications, you get expressive oldstyle figures. Quayside is a versatile typeface. Depending on the mood you're after, it can easily be retro or modern, fun or (fairly) serious. I'm often pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of uses my fonts get put to, and I can't wait to see what you do with this one!
