In the 1946 French lettering book “100 Alphabets Publicitaires” (“100 Advertising Alphabets”) is a hand-lettered “Western” font called “Italian". This served as the basis for Cattle Town JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

German type designer Yanone created this sans FontFont between 2009 and 2010. Мир is Mir. The Russian word Мир (Mir) means both World and Peace. The rendezvous of the two terms seems quite unique and utopistic today, but it is comforting to see that it was natural at some time deep down in Russian history. Bits of both meanings were going through my mind while I was designing this typeface. Mir’s character set is multiscript – Latin, Cyrillic and Greek – and extends to many parts of the linguistic world. In fact it covers more than 100 languages. Stylistic consistency between the language systems make typographic border crossings painless even where national borders are still closely guarded. And in regions where mathematics, physics or chemistry are to be expressed, a rich set of OpenType features lets Mir master also these situations. Serious things are best be said in a relaxed, unpretentious way. So Mir doesn’t put on a show. Mir has authority without being authoritarian, it is serious but not stern. Silly Behavior JNL is based on a hand lettered alphabet found within the pages of the vintage lettering book “100 Alphabets Publicitaires” (100 Advertising Alphabets). The fun, haphazard arrangement of the letters and numbers convey a casual approach to titling.

The 1946 foreign publication entitled "100 Alphabets Publicitaires" ("100 Advertising Alphabets") collects a number of interesting and attractive lettering samples for design inspiration. One such example is Asian-inspired and was re-drawn as the digital type face now named Martial Arts JNL.

Proudly present our new font. It is named Hollgates - Elegant Signature Font. Hollgates is script handwritten style with a natural charm. This font which is a modern signature and unique style handmade comes with very beautiful character changes. To keep the maximum real hand-lettered effect, there were created 240 ligatures (you can see them among the presentation pictures). When creating the font, we should take into consideration that each letter should be able to be connected with other letters. For example, the letter "a" should be well connected as well as with "l" and "n" and with any other letters. This limits us: we have to start letter from exact one point and finish at exact second point. So here come ligatures. I hear the word vernacular thrown around too much and too loosely. If a typeface is based in the vernacular, based on hand-painted or hand-crafted signage, then it should be based on the movements of the hand, retain that warmth and not on a pretty geometric model. For me, clean, geometric and precise doesn't have to be cold and expressionless. The original skeleton was hand-painted in 2008 to help determine and inform my decisions going forward. The typeface was completed shortly afterwards at the behest of an old friend for their identity. As usual, I expanded it, but considered retiring it since there were so many things similar out there. Years later, I had a chance to rediscover it and came to the conclusion that it could be improved, expanded in a logical and useful way, and introduced. I would be lying if I didn't admit that the rise of webfonts and embedded type in applications influenced many of the decisions I made about reworking Clear Sans™. Completely new Text and Screen fonts were developed that utitlize larger x-heights, space-saving widths, logical (and simplified) weight offerings… to name a few alterations. Even the pricing of each variant was considered to produce a more reasonable and simple solution for the developer, designer, professional and novice. The inspiration source for Semicirculus Monogram is a stylish sans serif letterset from a vintage embroidery publication which combines to create a semi-circular form monogram. Originally intended to adorn handkerchiefs, it has so many other possibilities. Ornaments from numerous antique specimen books were combined with the letter set to accent and complete its form. This is one of many monogram designs for the early 1900s which fall into a two letter format that is either adorned or interwoven with ornamentation. Randolph is a popular font family from Jukebox done in an old fashioned copperplate etching style that harkens back to the days of old leather-bound shop ledgers and hand painted window signs. The large and wide letterforms of Randolph make a bold statement that will add solidity and impact to any design.
