The life of Molière is a story of struggle, hard work, domestic unhappiness, death and burial in obscurity and almost in shame. Molière left behind a body of work that not only changed the face of French classical comedy, but has also come to influence the work of other dramatists from around the world. Despite his own preference for tragedy, which he had tried to further with the Illustre Théâtre, Molière became famous for his farces, which were generally in one act and performed after the tragedy. Both the comic and the serious drama were powerfully affected by the work of Molière, not only in his own age and country but everywhere and up to the present time. Didot is a name given to a group of typefaces named after the famous French printing and type producing family. The classification is known as modern, or Didone. The typeface we know today was based on a collection of related types developed in the period 1784–1811. Firmin Didot cut the letters, and cast them as type in Paris. Along with Giambattista Bodoni of Italy, Firmin Didot is credited with establishing the use of the "Modern" classification of typefaces. The types that Didot used are characterized by extreme contrast in thick strokes and thin strokes, by the use of hairline serifs and by the vertical stress of the letters. As in the extreme contrasts of the literature of Molière, in Didione's typefaces, thick and thin strokes, straight and curved, are the most relevant characteristic for an era marked by the changes.

Lingua is the unlikely offspring of our CAPUT font. Wondering what the undercast characters of this font would look like, I started writing. I was pleased with the first results and this encouraged me to pursue the process. The final font still has some slight resemblance to its predecessor, but stands completely on its own. This bold, sturdy typeface is very suitable for headers, posters and other designs where large sizes are needed. It comes with both a western and a cyrillic character set.

The inspiration source for Triangulus Monogram is a vintage publication called “Bibliotheque D.M.C: Alphabets et Monogrammes 2nd Series”. Found in that specimen book, is an alternative to the traditionally seen diamond monogram style. A triangular form, this monogram style is now digitally recreated and revived for modern use in Triangulus Monogram, with two letter monograms and a selection of additional frame styles for a final classy touch! I would like to invite you to a party, wedding, birthday, event, gameshow, baby shower, housewarming ... ehh, what I mean is: this is an invitation to (almost) anything! As you may have read, “Indbydelse” is danish and means “invitation” - why? Well, because these four fonts have enough power to create an exciting invitation! Use them as single fonts, combine one, two, three or all four - that’s totally up to you! The hand lettered title on the cover for the (ca. 1917) sheet music for “After the War is Over” provided the design inspiration for National Nouveau JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. A precursor to the Art Deco movement which would arrive within the next decade, this bold thick-and-thin design embraces the elements of both Art Nouveau and Art Deco in one type design and gets its name from the patriotic spirit of America during “The Great War”.

These four typefaces, Berlinette NB, Lyonette NB, Marseillette NB and Parisette NB, were designed from the same basic shape, a fanciful geometric form that avoids strict horizontals and uses more offbeat triangular shapes. Berlinette is the medieval Gutenbergian version of the four. It’s like a weird black letter font from the 1930s. It would work well advertising an obscure brand of German beer on the side of a Zeppelin as it circles the soccer stadium during the last match. In a William Burroughs novel.

Matt Desmond (MADType, Pufficlaude BT) would like you to meet Mesotone BT. This computer typeface design is monoweight and somewhat monowidth. The squarish unicase glyph forms feature eased corners and rounded terminal ends, which takes some of the edge off its techi look. Yet Mesotone still inspires one to explore the outer limits of the design universe. So, don’t tone it down; Mess with the fringes. Get Mesotone. Available in PostScript OpenType format, Mesotone’s extended glyph set covers the Western and Central European, Baltic and Turkish languages.

Brass Rail JNL is a novelty font, with its name derived from two key components of the source material. It was modeled from examples of vintage small letters stamped out of brass with "rails" above and below each character to fit within a slot. The most likely use of these letters would have been for either decorative initials or small merchandising signs (similar examples of both have been seen in the past). From these few examples comes a typeface with numerals, punctuation and an extended character set.

Beautinela Script is a beautiful mono-line font, perfect for logo design, branding, clothing design, signature, posters, wedding invitations and so much more! My goal with this font was to create an easily legible script font which would work for a wide variety of purposes. This font retains my personality within the characters as they were initially based off my own handwriting and later tidied up to create a set of consistent characters. Having that handmade feel and personal touch certainly gives it a hint of authenticity.

Jackalope is a new original script font from LetterPerfect Fonts. The design is a hybrid of pressure-pen calligraphy infused with whimsy and curlicue terminals. Letterforms are free-spirited and edges are rough, simulating spontaneous writing on rough paper. In addition to the full ANSI western character set, Jackalope includes a full set of small capitals, both lining and old-style numbers, and swash lowercase alternate characters that can be used as terminal letters at the ends of words for additional flourish. The genesis and realization of Jackalope was also a hybrid process. In 1996, LetterPerfect commissioned type designer Kathy Schinhofen to provide pen-written source material based on her commercial handwriting style and specifically on a logo she had designed for its "Viva la Fonts" line of script fonts. This work was digitized by LetterPerfect’s Garrett Boge and later fonticized by former Hallmark Cards type maven Myron McVay who unified the design and contributed additional characters. The design sat unfinished for over 12 years until Garrett Boge revived the project in 2010 filling out the extended character set. Jackalope is released in two versions: Jackalope LP Regular, which is the base font for continuous text setting; and Jackalope LP Expert, which includes swash variants, small capitals, and old-style numerals which can be swapped into text for extra flourish and effect.

The core design of Pepper family, designed by VIDI Visual Design Studio, is the fingertip handwriting style inspired by children’s writings on windows. This distinctive low-contrast typeface combines characteristics from neo-grotesque and organic models. Warmer than most Helvetica inspired typefaces, Pepper has organic shapes, playful strokes, rounded endings, and a generous x-height which makes Pepper easy to read. Now here's a font with an unusual backstory. You may recall that a while ago we discovered that Tim Burton was using an outdated version of one of our fonts for the interior titles in his The Corpse Bride. Well, our quest to get hold of him didn't bear any immediate fruit, but in a totally unrelated event we were contacted by the graphic arts company working with the overseas distributors for The Corpse Bride and it turned out that they needed a font based on the main title of the movie so they could keep the same style when they retitled it into other languages. The original title was either hand lettered or a heavily modified font, bearing some resemblance to our Ligeia and Tuscarora fonts, so we had to create a whole font more or less from scratch and extrapolate most of the letters from the very limited sample in the original title by identifying certain consistent characteristics and building new characters around them. It was a lot of work, but the good news is that they didn't want exclusivity, so we've got the font to add to our collection. We ended up calling it Beynkales which means 'Bone Bride' in Yiddish, which makes sense given the context of the movie. So here it is, in all its tattered glory, and bound to end up in our Halloween font selection later this year as well. Beynkales Alternate is a companion font that includes a full set of alternative upper and lower case characters which can be used on their own or in combination with the characters from Beynkales to create a more varied and handwritten look.

Poligon is a large family of geometric sans serif fonts. It is inspired by classic typefaces from the geometric-sans genre, like Futura and Avant Garde Gothic, whose shapes were constructed from circles and straight lines. Every character has been crafted to give it a distinct and individual feel. The family is an excellent choice for both corporate design and editorial design projects because of its range of weights, as well as its legibility in text. The typeface family ships in two different formats. Depending on your preference, you can install the typeface as two Variable Fonts or use the family’s eight static OpenType font files instead. Those weights run from Thin to Black. While the static-format fonts offer a good intermediary-step selection, users who install the Variable Fonts have vastly greater control over the stroke width in their upright and italic texts. The weight axes in Poligon’s Variable Fonts allow users to differentiate between almost 1,000 possible font weights. That enables you to fine-tune your text’s exact appearance on-screen or in print. But even the static fonts satisfy the need for flexibility, creating harmonious variations of texture and emphasis. Despite their rigid geometry, the fonts have a playful air to them. That playfulness and uniqueness can be dialed up by applying stylistic alternates via the fonts’ four Stylistic Sets. The first of these replaces “G”, “M”, and “&” with alternate, more outgoing shapes. Stylistic Set 2 has an alternate “ß”; Stylistic Set 3 has a “Q” with a longer tail and another “G”. Stylistic Set 3 has alternates for “A”, “K“, “Q”, “R”, “S”, “Y”, and “Z”.

Although the 70ties were very liberating and progressive, still girls played mainly with dolls and sweet things and boys with all kinds of challenging stuff. They did all sorts of basic scientific experiments in mini labs and of course built cool things with Meccano building sets. As a girl I was perfectly happy with the toys I had access to. But at the same time I was very curious about all the adventure toys and discoveries my brother did. It also made me wonder why the grown up people thought that our world could be separated so easily by separating our toys in pink and blue sections. At this day of age Meccano is probably hopelessly old fashioned and far to manual. Children of today are fed by fast images and cool animations on screen, they learn, play, communicate and relax in the same space, the digital space. The special feature of Meccano was that even though it was very basic there was the promise you could create anything. It might even contribute to a logical mind. The typeface I designed refers to the Meccano feel. It is a creative typeface. A bit masculine and bold looking perhaps but after the first impression a subtle and refined female touch is revealed. It has links to architecture and associations with metal constructions like ‘The Eiffel Tower’ and (old railway) bridges. I am convinced that we all think of that as very charming man-made objects.

Malden Sans is a mischievous grotesque sans serif with charming details that gives designers a solid typographic voice. It was created by Michele Patanè with regular and condensed widths, as a utilitarian typeface family for print and digital environments. It was originally designed as part of a type system for cinema magazines, and embodies the devil-may care attitude of the silver screen. Designer Michele Patanè looked back to an earlier era of typography to create the typeface, embracing unusual details, rather than ironing them out. “There is a very naive way of using typography in the 30s and 40s, something not as clean as how it’s used in the late 50s and 60s when everything passed through a rationalisation of the typographic palette,” he explains. “In film magazines you can still see a bit of roughness, and I like that.” This is a design that’s desperate to be used in editorial environments, and has been created to stand up to lower quality paper. It would be equally at home on posters, packaging, and even in digital environments where designers are looking for something more expressive than another geometric sans serif. 946 is a multilingual techno-style family developed by Berlin-based type designer Roman Wilhelm (RomanType). While more and more text families have recently been extended to a multilingual and multi-script level, not so much attention has been given to the more decorative styles. The 946 family does exactly that. A lot of care has been given to the various diacritics: they were designed a little more brutal, a little more European than with some other fonts of this category. Do also watch out for the non-Latin legs of this family. 946 is inspired by electronic music. When Roman found a second-hand Roland TR-606 drum machine in a store in his hometown back in 1995, he started to hang out with would-be DJs and musicians, trying to play the beats that went around the globe. When he started to study visual communication three years later, he was assigned the matriculation number of 946, which has now become the name of this family. This is Ekamai, named after the district of Bangkok I lived in. It is based on Quinella, and was supposed to be a quick and easy reworking of that font into a "tight-not-touching" (rather than overlapping) version. As is often the case with quick and easy things, it turned out to be neither, and the vast majority of glyphs needed to be completely overhauled to fit the new system. This face is deliciously plump face, with lovingly rendered curves and just the right amount of cuteness; perfect for food packaging (of the sweeter variety probably!), logos, magazine headlines and the like. It performs admirably in all caps settings. The numerals are expressive hybrid figures (somewhere between lining and oldstyle). The overall feel is friendly and soft, without being overtly saccharine. Ekamai is equipped with subtle contextual alternates (which I'd recommend leaving on) to help with the tight fit, a handful of discretionary ligatures if that's your thing, and a case feature for all caps settings. The stylistic alternates and stylistic set 1 features simply change the # glyph to an attractive numero. Automatic fractions are included along with wide-ranging language support.

Located in the Valencian Community, Spain, Manises is very famous for its pottery. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Manises was the most important production center for Spanish-Moresca ceramics, which was exported throughout Europe. At the beginning of the 16th century, Manises tiles were very commercially successful, especially of the heraldic type. Much appreciated by the Aragonese crown, Manises ceramics was also exported to France, Italy, and especially to Naples. As a big fan of Paterna and Manises ceramics, Naples influenced other Italian courts. Calixto III and Alejandro VI continuously commissioned Valencian pieces and tiles for the halls of the Vatican. The export also extended to Sicily, Venice, Turkey, Cyprus and even Flanders and the Baltic countries. The palaces of all the courts of Europe were enriched with this art. Many painters reproduced it in his paintings. It can be seen in the work of Hubert and Jan Van Eyck, and in the central panel of a triptych by Hugo Van der Goes (Uffizi Gallery, Florence). In this city there are also some frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio in which the Arabic-Valencian earthenware appears. Manises font is inspired by a text written on a 16th century tile, but adapting it to our times and giving it a very modern air. It is characterised by being able to combine uppercase and lowercase letters in a conventional manner, or use only capitals, or only lowercase letters, or, a random combination of both. It comes with an extra of many ligatures, stylistic alternates, and a set of very useful catchwords, to give more modernity to your text.
