Lettering on a 1933 booklet about certain facilities in Italy -- can you guess what they might be? -- by the Bertarelli Design Studio of Milan inspired this decidedly different and engaging monocase face. If you're looking for something that says "casual elegance," this is it. This font contains the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

In the 1949 Paramount comedy "My Friend Irma" (a film based on the popular radio series that introduced America to Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis), an opening gag set-up involving excavation work utilizes street barricades which inspired Work Crew Stencil JNL. Cresci is a carefully digitized reproduction of an alphabet of Giovan Francesco Cresci, the pre-eminent Renaissance writing master whose lettering virtuosity presaged the exuberance of the Baroque. His published writing book, "Il Perfetto Scrittore" (1570) was the inspiration for the typeface, designed by Garrett Boge in 1996. Cresci is part of the LetterPerfect Baroque Set.

The agressive moves, the lateral spurs and the heavy leaf endings of Trochera resemble the silvan plants behavior giving it a very expressive and festive personality. Nosegrind is a bit of a departure from our usual more traditional font offerings. It's based on skate-culture graffiti gleaned from various samples of similar style found on walls in Austin and online. The font includes two character sets, one which is plain and one which is enhanced with outlines. In normal usage the characters should nest, with slight overlap from one character to the next as shown in the sample to the right, but the lower case characters in the font are spaced evenly but not pre-nested, leaving the degree of overlap up to the user - nesting is easily adjusted with the tracking option in programs like Photoshop, Quark or InDesign. Ultimately Nosegrind will be added to our Modern Fonts collection, where it ought to fit in nicely.

DicSans is a square sans-serif typeface, inspired by Aldo Novarese’s Eurostile, it was meant as a sort of contemporary "open" Eurostile. It is a semi-custom font, designed and expanded according to costumers’ requests, since 2004 up to 2013. For this reason it has many glyph variants (up to three variants per lowercase glyphs and numbers, special smallcaps etc.) and wide language coverage.

Butterfield is based on poster lettering from posters for rock shows at the Fillmore in the 1960s. It is particularly influenced by the lettering of Wes Wilson, but has added features and improvements to make it more generally useful. It is one of the most effective examples of the psychedelic style. Combining the basic font with Photoshop's wave pattern produces the unique look seen above.

Scriptek was created by British designer David Quai in 1992, based on the constructivist forms which became popular after the First World War with the progressing industrialization in Moskow. Typefaces such as Scriptek were often used in the propaganda of totalitarian political systems and can still be seen on monuments like the central train station in Milan or political posters of the 1930s and 40s. The robust Scriptek has strong serifs in the upper left and lower right of characters and this, together with the diagonal strokes of many lower case letters, gives the font a dynamic feel. Scriptek is best used for headlines and display.

Investigating the new media of a much previous era, Nick Shinn deconstructed the first roman type, designed by Sweynheym and Pannartz in 1467, and gleaned, from its minuscules, the low contrast and discreet serif treatment (portrayed by a novel convex effect), which he subsequently applied to both capitals and lower case of a classically proportioned Venetian invention. In 2008 the glyphs, metrics and hinting of the 1995 fonts were refined, Extra Bold and Light weights added, a full range of OpenType features instituted, and the number of characters per style increased almost threefold. A major upgrade to a unique typeface.
