Fort Courage JNL is a bold slab serif wood type in the French Clarendon genre, taking its name as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the cavalry fort populated by a number of post-Civil War misfits in the 1960s television comedy "F Troop".

Another bit of font inspiration came to the attention of Jeff Levine through his friend Gene Gable. An image of vintage packaging for Aquapruf Ear Drum Protectors (swimmer's ear plugs) offered the narrow and condensed lettering that is the basis for Slim Chance JNL.

It took Hannes von Döhren and Livius Dietzel two years to develop and complete the Brix Sans family – the companion of the well-known Brix Slab . The approach was to design an independent type family following the rules of the “Sans-Serif” genre, harmonizing with its older sister Brix Slab from the “Slab-Serif” genre. The result is a family of 6 weights with matching italics, which works perfectly for corporate design & editorial design. Combined with Brix Slab, high and complex typographical challenges can be solved. By the time there was no milk left and only some bread crumbs remained on his plate, VLNL Breakz was finished. That’s DBXL for you. Get your letters during your break. VLNL Breakz was originally designed as the headline and logo font for the breakdance competition Amsterdam Breakz, but turned out to be very versatile. It has 4 variations, Regular and Condensed widths / Bold and Light weights.

Linotype Russisch Brot is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. The inspiration of German designer Markus Remscheid is not hard to see for those who are familiar with the chocolate cookies in the form of letters which are called Russisches Brot. The font is available in six weights. The basic weight is perfectly legible and is good for both headlines and shorter texts and from there the weights become more and more nibbled away, leaving the basic form of the characters and a few crumbs.

This rough-and-tumble typeface is inspired by lettering in the Book of Kells. Celtic knots can be found in the ASCII circumfles (^), ASCII tilde (~), florin (ƒ) and section (§) positions. Both versions of this font support the Latin 1252, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 codepages.

Blue Sugar is a grunge font which has one letter-shape in white set within a different grunge letter-shape in black. The Regular and Dirty versions have their characters in conventionally upright positions; and there are 3 varieties with the characters in various states of disorder and at slightly varied angles and sizes - called Twirled and Whirled. The Mixed Caps version introduces no new characters, but combines straight capitals and jumbled capitals in the same font, for convenience, in which Upper Case A-Z displays conventional upright Capitals, and lower case a-z displays jumbled Capitals. The package contains both OTF and TTF versions - install either OTF or TTF, not both versions of a font on the same machine.

Ramp Age was originally made with a brush, but I wanted a more rough look to it. I manually traced the brush-strokes with short, straight lines, making the font more characteristic in its look. Can be used for grafitti things, but fits in the horror-genre as well!

The movie poster for the 1934 comedy/crime drama “Jimmy the Gent” (starring James Cagney) featured the title hand lettered in an ultra-bold Art Deco sans serif style. This type design has been turned into Social Club JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Calendar Blocks JNL was inspired by old-fashioned wood type used to assemble calendar pages in the days of letterpress printing. The A-Z keystrokes contain the dates 1-26. The lower case a-z keystrokes have the remaining dates 27-31, along with the split dates 23/30 and 24/31 and blank boxes. The days of the week are located on the 1-7 keys.

Little is known of the origin of these decorative Initial Caps. Series 448 at 24 point were a different design from the 36 point on which this digital version is based. In addition to the basic 26 characters, there is a negative version contained in the lower case position and a fill character (for two color caps) option in the number and punctuation key positions.

The font is named after the Armenian writer Theodoros Grigor Lapchinchian (Armenian Թեոդորոս Գրիգորի Լափչինճյան: March 5, 1873, Constantinople — May 24, 1928), who in 1912 published book "Type and Letter" (Armenian: Տիպ ու տառ), dedicated to 1500th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian alphabet and the 400th anniversary of Armenian printing. Based on a Monotype 1930s condensed poster typeface, Placard Next is bursting with personality. The image of the poster was provided by Gene Gable, who has on many occasions supplied Jeff Levine with many interesting font inspirations.

A photo from Gene Gable (a regular contributor of ideas to Jeff Levine Fonts) shows the vintage signage for the Lasher Hatchery in a slightly different take on the classic Art Deco solid letter style. Since good ideas, like eggs can be hatched, thus the font's name of Hatchery JNL.

VLNL Berlagebrug Designer Donald DBXL Beekman daily crosses the Berlage bridge spanning the Amstel river in Amsterdam. The Berlagebrug was built as part of the city planning project ‘Plan Zuid’ by H.P.Berlage and opened in May 1932. Its name, carved out of two granite headstones, sparked the design of this font family. The original lettering is attributed to Anton Kurvers in the early 19th century, and can be seen on many Amsterdam buildings and bridges. It’s typical lettering of the Amsterdamse School, the Dutch equivalent of the expressionist art deco architectural style, and mostly known for its extravagant brick work. VLNL Berlagebrug is a rounded display font that comes in three outline styles matching the building materials used in the bridge. Gietijzer (cast iron) is smooth, Zandsteen (sandstone) has a softly distressed outline, and Graniet (granite) is outspoken rough and crumbled. The capital letters in VLNL Berlagebrug are in the Amsterdamse school style, the lowercases are more straight alternate capitals, giving you more design options.
