The 50’s were the golden years for cinema and consequently also for the artists who lettered on the posters. Cinefile is a brushed disconnected script included in a family font that evokes the soul of that vintage brush but with a modern touch. The main characteristics of Cinefile are soft and rounded shapes and a very high x-height, clean and easy to read. Some years ago, a good friend and typophile, Gonzalo García Barcha, approached me with the idea of designing a typeface for his editorial project Blacamán Ediciones. He had just came across an hitherto unknown manuscript by Luis Lagarto, a colonial illuminator and scribe, working in Mexico City and Puebla in the late 1500s. The manuscript calligraphy was incredible and stunningly original. It featured three different hands by the scribe, intermingled in the text: a kind of baroque «Roman» roundhand; a very ornate, lively «Italic»; and some sort of irregular, playful, even funny «small caps». All imbued with an eccentric, convoluted zest and vivacious rhythm. Lagarto is the final result of translating these extraordinary hands into a digital type family. Since the manuscript had no numerals, math signs and many other characters now in use, part of the fun of the job was to infer them from the stylistic peculiarities of Luis Lagarto's calligraphy. Lagarto received an Award of Excellence at the Type Directors Club of New York annual competition.

The Bousni family's six faces display links unexpected by most readers of western alphabets. Inspired by both by Arabic calligraphy, and contemporary bitmap design, Bachir Soussi Chiadmi created this playful series of faces. Letters in each of the six typefaces link together, but not in the ways normally expected from script fonts. The typeface Belwe, created in 1926 by German typographer and teacher Georg Belwe, has an uncommon style that is difficult to describe. It is a synthesis of many different genres: it is a slab serif with Art Nouveau style but also with many blackletter influences. The angled serifs on the ascenders and the calligraphic flourishes on the the upper and lowercase V, W, and Ys reference marks made by pens. There are also many other special characters that are unlike any other designs. Have a look at the fun lowercase a, the quirky lowercase f and g, and the unique C, F, L, and R for the uppercase. This design works especially well for display sizes, but is also good for short amounts of text. The mood and image suggested by this typeface is great for menus, invitations, and signs when you want to send a personal and friendly message. Delphi grew from a logotype Lily Feinberg produced using Greek-column-inspired letterforms. As that concept expanded to include more and more letters, the typeface had its beginnings. Intertwined, kinetic, and deliberate, Delphi carves itself onto the page and screen, encouraging variation and experimentation. The letterforms’ unique construction and predispostion for experimentation inspired two varying sets: Delphi Dio, comprised of two-line strokes, and Delphi Tria, built of both 2- and 3-line strokes. I do a lot of taller, narrower handwriting fonts; this time around, I was inspired to make a wider, shorter handwriting font! MUGGSY has everything you expect from one of my fonts: clean and smooth curves, a full set of alternates, and a feeling of fun! MUGGSY has two uppercase-height alphabets (with a few lowercase-style letters like a and e in the lowercase set), plus a full set of 63 "smallternates" -- the same letters, numbers, and ampersand sized down to 75%, and beefed up in weight so they can be mixed in with the full-size letters. Plus 30 double-letter ligature sets, and a few additional alternates for variety! You also get a ton of punctuation, and my usual 300+ extended Latin characters for language support, for a total of over 600 glyphs! Habana Deco ML was inspired by a hand-lettered sign on the stucco exterior of a small pharmacy in modern-day city of Havana, Cuba. It, in turn, was based on the fat-faced Art Deco lettering of the late 20s and early 30s, especially the Futurismo posters out of Italy, as well as alphabets designed in The Netherlands, France, USA and even the Soviet Union. There are 24 stylistic alternate glyphs (SALT), many inspired by a variety of these sources, including a couple from the sign in the front of the Congress Hotel in South Beach, Miami. The others features of the Habana Deco include 363 glyphs, 184 kerning pairs (KERN), 14 ornaments and shapes (ORNM) and 15 discretionary ligatures (DLIG). This is a font with which you can have fun. The zip package includes two versions of the font at no extra charge. There is an OTF version which is in Open PS (Post Script Type 1) format and a TTF version which is in Open TT (True Type)format. Use whichever works best for your applications.

Berto is a variable monoline font face. With two stylistic sets it is flexible in usage either for display or for reading matters. It was specially drawn for a corporate design in 2011, and since then has been continuously rebuilt and extended to a font family with five weights and a variable font.

The upper case letters have detailed creatures/letters while the lower case hold silhouettes of the same creatures. The creatures were originally drawn 2016 during the 36 days of type project (http://www.36daysoftype.com/)

Cortex was designed for Shanghai Word Expo 2010 / A.A.D.I Pavilion corporate identity: signage, corporate communication, graphic design (a 120 pages monography), promotional items, etc. It was inspired by the pavilion "slanted" architectural concept, and had to fit the famous chinese "YOUYUAN" typeface as well. This is a both very clear and dynamic typeface.

Drawn and created by Mans Greback in 2022, this lettering has a distinct style and a strong personality. Use underscore _ anywhere in a word to make a swash under the word. Bourgeois is a squarish geometric font that plunders mid-century modernism and gives it a contemporary edge. It speaks with a distinctive self-assuredness that makes it highly-suited to branding and identity work. With 24 styles in its 2016 form, Bourgeois is one of our most extensive, versatile and widely-used typefaces.

Galexica is a geometric, modernistic, sans-serif typeface. The original family had five members, but an upgrade in 2019 expanded that to ten, with five weights and italics for each of those weights. The eccentric letter forms have a techno or futuristic look. There is also a monospaced version of this design,

French type designer Albert Boton created this display FontFont in 2002. The font is ideally suited for advertising and packaging, music and nightlife as well as sports. FF Studio provides advanced typographical support with features such as ligatures, alternate characters, and case-sensitive forms. It comes with proportional lining and proportional oldstyle figures.

A typeface fast and light enough to fly! Airways is a vintage script font, with an airy yet confident style. It was carefully drawn by Måns Grebäck in 2016, and contains a lot of contextual alternates and ligatures. The font is useful in logotypes and advertising material that requires your customers' attention.

Arkeo BT is designer Brian Sooy's first typeface family published by Bitstream. Given very few design elements to work with, Brian has designed a bitmap font that is unique and very readable. There are three widths, Condensed, Regular and Extended. In our opinion, pixels never looked so good. Arkeo performs equally well on screen and as on paper. The OpenType versions include an extended character set featuring oldstyle figures, fractions and additional f-ligatures. Design was begun in late 2001 and completed in 2002. Sooy asked Bitstream to critique, which we did gladly. We also added additional characters for OpenType. This included alternate figure set, an extended set of fractions and additional f-ligatures. Sooy used preliminary versions for setting parts of the TypeCon 2002 material and website.
