Around the turn of the twentieth-century, Steel and copper plate engraving was the most sophisticated and expensive method for producing business cards, stationery, and formal announcements. In engraved printing, the image is incised, or engraved into a hard, flat plate. Ink is applied to the plate, and then wiped off; leaving only the ink that is trapped below the surface in the incised areas. When the paper is pressed against the flat plate, the ink is drawn out of these areas and transferred to the paper. The results are twofold: printing which sits above the surface of the paper, and the reproduction very delicate lines and shapes. For business and formal printing, engraved printing was, and is, considered the best. The problem is that not everybody can afford the best. Type foundries, in the early 1900s, figured that if they could produce a typeface for traditional printing, which had appearance of engraving, they would be able to satisfy the needs of those forced to live with modest printing budgets. Engravers faces were born. Fredric Goudy’s Copperplate Gothic was one of the most popular. Plate Gothic is a version of this style updated for digital technology. Italian type design master Aldo Novarese was not famous for making calligraphic designs, nor had he any interest in them. He is much better known for his text faces, and quite innovative sans serif and decorative designs which became the definition of what we now know as techno and modern. But in 1968, Novarese surprised everyone with a fantastic flowing deco script entitled Elite. Novarese's formula of simple soft curves and toned-down swashes makes for one of the most unique alphabets ever seen, not to mention one of the best flowing and most legible scripts. This is now its digital incarnation, named Fontella. Fontella's applications are virtually limitless. The cover of a 1950s-era catalog for the Freedman Novelty Company (of San Francisco California) had the word "Novelty" hand-lettered in an unusually angular type style against various geometric shapes somewhat resembling balloons. While the lettering was quirky enough to warrant re-drawing as a digital font, the shapes would have presented a visual nightmare in design and spacing, so simple black rectangles were substituted and the letters appear in white. Since novelty lettering of this type would never become "standard" in use, its function became the font's name, Limited Appeal JNL. There is just a simple A-Z and 1-0 character set along with basic punctuation.

Mode is a typographic experiment exploring how same sans serif form adapts to different circumstances and what are the possibilities in variations of Thin / Black, Contrast / Negative contrast. Two main groups are Mode 0 (with rounded shapes) and Mode 1 (with angular shapes). Each of them varies from Thin to Black in six cuts, in the same manner it varies from contrast shapes to negative contrast. Mode comes in total of 72 cuts regular and italic, it speaks majority of Latin based languages and is equipped with smcp, c2sc, Old style and all caps numerals. Mode is made by DAGGERtypo during a period of 2019/2020

Pilfnof contains: - 394 glyphs which include: Basic Latin, Latin Extended - A, Latin 1 - Supplement and General Punctuation. - 4 weights: Light, Regular, Bold and Black Pilfnof is a reverse contrast serif font family. Purpose of the project was to design a standing out modern serif which revolves around reverse contrast. Width of strokes is fully reversed. Weight, width and contrast are regular while x-height is high. It contains uppercase and lowercase letters and lining figures. Pilfnof is perfect for use in Branding and Publications. It can be used both for text as well as headings and titles. Heavy weights are ideal for headlines while light weights are suitable for body text.

It’s a colorful world. Don’t limit yourself to black and white. Based on the powerful Trade Gothic Condensed Heavy typeface, Monotype Studio designer Lynne Yun, created the fonts necessary to set both “beveled” and “embossed” characters in any color. Trade Gothic Display 1 (embossed) generates striking highlighted type, while Trade Gothic Display 2 (bevel) produces powerful shadow and outline effects. The designs are natural additions to the Trade Gothic Next family, and stand on their own as formidable display typefaces.

Competition is a state of the art sports typeface. A large width range, slant angles from –12 to 12, and an adjustable inline make it extremely versatile. It’s devided into 5 subfamilies, from the sizes S, M, L & XL with decreasing inline weights to Solid without an inline at all. (By the way: S doesn’t mean it doesn’t look good in large sizes!) Choose from 105 predefined styles, or 1 variable font with axes for width, slant and inline weight (which is included in the family package). Competition embraces the Latin S character set and therefore supports 400+ Latin-based languages. Go for Gold!
