Presentation QuarterBraille (Abbreviated as "QB" thereafter) is a decorative, steganographic and lattice font. Its core design concept is that Braille dots are represented as "quarters of a square"[1]. This is illustrated by posters 1 and 2 (NB: these glyph parts will be called "QB dots" thereafter). The other glyph parts (see poster 3) are purely decorative and meaningless in terms of Braille dots encoding[2]. All glyph parts are meant to generate a wide variety of patterns from horizontal and vertical combinations of glyphs. There is also a graphic convention to differentiate uppercase from lowercase letters with the presence or absence of shape subparts (in the "endings", "quarter of a circle with a ring" and "quarter of a diamond with a small square in the middle") like shown by poster 4. This font is suitable for very short texts (e.g. logos, acronyms, quotes, ambigrams, pangrams, palindromes, etc...) but on the other hand it may be used for steganographic purpose like geocaching as well as fictive alphabets (e.g. Alien/SciFi/Fantasy/Antique civilizations). Posters 1. Font Logo: the displayed text is " Quarter " followed by " Braille". There's a rainbow layer above the text to highlight the "QB dots", this is achieved by A..Z glyphs with "only QB dots" (codes 230..255) 2. Like in regular cards, the card value (e.g. Ah) is displayed twice: at the top and rotated by 180 degrees at the bottom. This poster also illustrates that QB could be used to print embossed playing cards with tactile and visual display of card values. 8. Sample 4: Pangram: "Adept quick jog over frozen blue whisky mix" 9. Sample 5: Latin Magic Square: "SATOR AREPO TENET OPERA ROTAS" (NB: for compensation of the 2/3 glyph ratio, letters on each line are separated by a space: "S A T O R", ...). 10. Sample 6: Quote of Mahatma Gandhi: "Learn as if you will live forever, live like you will die tomorrow.". This is also a demonstration of border glyphs combinations. 11. Sample 7: Steganography use case: the text is a sequence of 64 aminoacids (1 Letter notation), this protein was described in a research paper "The complete Aminoacid sequence of an amyloid fibril protein AA of unusual size (64 residues) 1975". 12. Sample 8: Border Glyphs with the provided styles and mixed styles. The words are the same than in poster 9 ("SATOR AREPO TENET OPERA ROTAS"). Despite the 2/3 glyph ratio, the "TENET cross" was achieved by both inserting spaces in horizontally ("T ENE T") and by using the "thin borders glyphs". Notes a. Border glyphs[3] are meant to enhance the esthetics of text samples displayed with QB b. Special characters (e.g. *$()[].,;:&@# ...) are provided and follow the NABCC (North American Braille Computer Code) convention. c. A..Z Glyphs with only the "QB dots" are provided as demonstrated by posters 1 and 2 (A/N: this was very useful to create them). d. Glyph Map: 32..64: Special characters - 161..187: "Thin variant" of Border glyphs, 192..229: Border glyphs, 230..255: A..Z with only the "QB dots" - Codes 176 an 181 are "regular SPACE" (empty glyph). Footnotes 1. There is indeed two shapes which represent the braille dot: the "quarter of a square" and the "quarter of a cross". It's because a cross may be considered as an "inverted square" because the square corners are merged in the center. 2. That's why the SPACE glyph is only made of decorative/meaningless glyph parts (i.e. no "QB dots"). 3. Landmark is a modern bold font that mix rounded and square angles.

Modulario is a geometric sans with some disturbingly individual features. A few capitals owe a bit too much to Roman proportions. The circular O serves to distinguish it from the zero, and the luxuriously wide W and M are both pointed in the middle, although alternatives to the more contentious letters are available within the font. The lowercase shows a little more handwriting influence than is customary – we are used to seeing a writing-style curve at the base of the l, Modulario extends the influence to the i and a, and also sports a uniquely scripty s.

In 1905 Berthold released an engraved blackletter font called Prinzess Kupferstichschrift. Based on an old printed remnant, I revived this beautiful open-face fraktur and enriched it with several OpenType features. As usual in my blackletter fonts, the round ‘s’ lies on the number sign key, and a traditional number sign can be accessed via the Discretionary Ligature feature and typing 'N-r-period'. In this font you have also the possibility to turn I, V, X, L, C, D, and M into Roman numerals by activating the Stylistic Alternates feature. And last but not least, various useful ligatures polish up this font.

Drop Caps happen. They started off life as decorated initials way back when in the days of illuminated manuscripts. Then printing came and they became the work of the rubricators and then somewhere soon after printing began, at least by the 1490’s, they were printed directly into the text. This then is a collection of over a hundred glyphs from that closing decade of the Incunabula period. All of them are based on examples found in the works printed by Michael Wenssler in Basel. This font also contains a few useful pointing hands and a set of spacing characters.

Britti Sans is a modern grotesque typeface that has geometric details and deep roots in industrial design principles. Its opentype features (alternate characters, localised characters, multilingual characters) give it greater versatility allowing it to adapt to a wide range of contexts. Among its features are contextual alternates, uppercase and lowercase localized Sharp S, numerators and denominators, a wide range of currency symbols including the Bitcoin symbol, emojis and icons, proportional and tabular numbers, fractions and circled numbers. The family has 7 styles + italics and a two-axis variable cut. Any suggestion to continue improving Britti Sans will be welcome.

TT Tangerine made in 2017 has been a global hit. It's been used by the biggest performing artist in the world, luxury brands, designer packaging and more. Due to its popularity an italic style was added in Feb 2023. From the designer: I wanted to make a retro font with that 70's good vibes feel but i didn't want to just copy letters from that era. I decided to make new unique letters that had that groovy 70s feel. The bold curves pay homage to the big hair and bell-bottoms of the golden era.

The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast is a 70's concept album/rock opera by Deep Purple's Roger Glover. The music video to Love Is All, featuring a lute playing frog in a cape, must be one of the best videos ever made. At least, I believe so. When working on this font, the song popped up in my head (it is still there), so I decided to name this cute, cartoonish font after the album. Butterfly Ball is a fun and happy typeface with rounded glyphs and an uneven baseline. Of course it comes with a hallucinatory range of diacritics.

In the 1949 Paramount comedy "My Friend Irma" (a film based on the popular radio series that introduced America to Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis), an opening gag set-up involving excavation work utilizes street barricades which inspired Work Crew Stencil JNL. Placed along the site, different advisories are stenciled upon barricades warning of the work in progress. The scatterbrained Irma (Marie Wilson) walks straight through the construction, oblivious as to what's going on around her and steps right into the open hole dug into the sidewalk (a scene she reprises in 1950's "My Friend Irma Goes West").

ITC Grimshaw Hand is based on the handwriting of its British designer, Phill Grimshaw. Warm and lively, this typeface has the look of spontaneous handwriting with a little extra panache. Note the jaunty k, the swooping f, the simply stylish s, and the absolutely zingy cap Q and R. Grimshaw designed this face in 1995, at a time when he was also playing the guitar and mandolin. Handwriting fonts give an air of intimacy to the graphic design of advertising pieces, packaging, invitations, greeting cards - and ITC Grimshaw Hand has the touch of sweet music in its enthusiastic strokes.

“PGF Dinos” is a low contrast round typeface that resembles handmade American ‘Sign Painting’ in such the upper portion of the characters is bigger than the lower one, what gives the font a more playful and friendly personality. Another remarkable feature is its hooked terminals in characters such as C, G or S, heightening the differences between similar characters. “PGF Dinos” Family is composed of 10 different weights ranging from Hairline to Extra Black plus Italics and a full set of Dingbats. Early version was originallly called as “Globa” and was developed under the supervision of the Latinotype Team. Designer: Pedro González.

The gifted Hungarian punch-cutter and printer Miklós Kis was active in Amsterdam in the 1680s. Among the many fonts that he cut during those years were a ‘mediaen’ (pica-sized) roman and italic, and the digital Miklós fonts are an interpretation of these ‘mediaen’ types. The character set has been extended to cover all the European languages that use the Latin alphabet, and the fonts offer OpenType features such as small capitals; old-style and lining figures, both proportional and tabular; fractions; superior and inferior numbers; superior alphabet; contextual and stylistic alternates; and intelligent application of long ‘s’.

Remember those plastic Popsicle sticks that clicked together and you could make things from them with your sticky little fingers? Things like... camp crafts. Well, no� Of course you don't. You were too young. That�s why there is Campcraft. This is a fun loving dot-matrix font, or it would be a fun loving dot-matrix if the vertical and horizontal grid lines didn't pile up at the intersections. Then again, it wouldn't be any fun if they didn't pile up at the intersections, would it? Strictly a display type... Campcraft is excellent for what the name suggests. I goes well with Christmas sweaters, beaded jackets and purses and that time when we were all happy children with sticky little fingers.

This 1538 Schwabacher was based on a font used by Georg Rhau in Wittemberg (Germany) to print Des Babsts Hercules [...], a German pamphlet against roman catholicism written by Johannes Kymeus. The original font has a relatively complete set of characters including “long s”, but also the special german types like k, fl or ‰, ˆ, ¸.... A few omissions were remedied, and accented letters were added. A render sheet, enclosed with font files, help to identify them on keyboard. It can be used as web-site titles, posters and fliers, editing ancient texts, menus or greeting cards as a very decorative font... Although this font remains clear and easy to read from 8 or 9 points on screen, it is clearly designed for print works.

Chaparral is the work of type designer Carol Twombly and combines the legibility of slab serif designs popularized in the 19th century with the grace of 16th century roman book lettering. The result is a versatile, hybrid slab-serif design. Unlike ""geometric"" slab serif designs, Chaparral has varying letter proportions that give it an accessible and friendly appearance in all weights from light to bold. And because it is a multiple master typeface with an optical axis (ranging from 7 to 72 points), Chaparral is clear and legible in smaller text settings while remaining subtle and lively at display sizes. Chaparral�s highly functional design is surprisingly beautiful, the perfect choice for correspondence, as well as book, poster and newsletter design.

The Coast is a Sans Serif type family inspired by enamel signs from the 1920s. The Coast has a large x-height which gives the font a friendly look and guarantees great performance in very small sizes. The Coast family also works great in huge sizes since it has some very special and highly elaborated characters like the small “e” and “g” which distinguishes it from an ordinary Sans Serif. The family includes real small caps, small capital figures, medieval and monospaced lining figures for information in tables. Coast and Coast Wide both come with a variety of special characters, alternates, mathematical symbols and the unusual ligature “rt”. Also on board: the german capital letter “sharp s” = ẞ. That’s about it.

Portmeirion No.6 started life as an experiment by our designer, who was exploring the possibilities of a completely 'over-the-top' display Roman face, bringing in elements of Tuscan and 'Circus' design, along with anything else he felt like. Throughout the history of typography there have been countless attempts to simplify the alphabet. In the early 20th century, modernist designers experimented with reducing the alphabet to basic geometric shapes.
