Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar had an exotic name for a historic Texan, but he left his mark beginning in 1836, the year of Texas independence and the first year that pioneers other than mountain men made their way West. Lamar went on to become the young republic’s first elected vice-president (to President Houston) and second president -- and to author a number of interesting letters in his elegant, stylish hand. (Mirabeau B. Lamar grew up a well-to-do southerner from Georgia, and his penmanship shows it.) One of the most interesting aspects of designing old handwriting fonts, to me, is pausing to reflect on the actual moment that the letter-writer is sitting at his or her desk or table, pen in hand, putting thoughts to words -- 150 to 200 years ago. Linotype Maral is based on an historic Armenian typeface which was originally designed by Henrik Mnatsakanyan. Hrant Papazian has revieved and digitized this four weight type family . It continued to be used for the German language until the 20th century. Fakir, a blackletter with a holy kiss is a contemporary interpretation of gone letterforms with origin in blackletters. More precisely, we based the construction on broadnip textura, with lots of broken, edgy, interrupted strokes – try to sit on a nail bed and you’ll know why fakirs like to read just these kind of fonts! After being abandoned for some time (not accepted, nearly forbidden), we would like to give our generation a blackletter from here and now. Liquorice Twist is a light-hearted fun font which developed from some hand drawn text designed to accompany and be integrated with some ‘Zen Doodling’ art that someone had drawn. It is very informal and unconventional, with the glyphs created using unusual and loose ‘rules’. The font has a set of stylistic alternates with equal height lower-case letters. It also has the option of alternate initial capitals and alternate ending lower case letters accessible via contextual alternates. Characterized by quickness, lightness, and ease of movement, Bird Script is a font which challenges many aspects of type-design: every single stroke, comes directly from the author’s hand and tries to reflect not only the tool used, but also his feelings at the moment of writing. Bird Script is a font filled up with the energic gestures of what it’s called gestural calligraphy, a not very explored field in typography, where hardly ever a letter comes the same way two times: When manipulating the pen, the letterer seeks for the beauty of the differences and the grace of a confident execution. Originally done with a flat speedball pen nib nº5 and retouched with pencil for the bolder elements, it turned into a very pleasant to the eyes font which dances between the formal rules of typography and the artistic look of calligraphy. Bird Script Pro and Bird Script Light Pro come with many ligatures, alternates and ornaments. Into the standard ligatures we find lots of pairs of two and three ligated letters so when they are activated the font seems alive. However if none of them are activated, the font gives a really particular text pattern, specially in smaller sizes. Get Bird Script, add rhythm to your work.

Let me tell you a secret: This font has got absolutely nothing to do with nougat or France. I just love nougat, and I actually ate some while finishing this font! My wife is a good at making cakes, and lucky for me is that she too adores nougat - that way I often get delicious cakes with nougat :) Well, back to the font - a handmade rounded sans-serif, comic, organic, all-purpose with a playful attitude. Since I designed Mommie you can see a lot of script typefaces with big contrast for big sizes. With Narziss I created a roman interpretation with the very expressive Swirls version. Glenda is again an italic script like Mommie. In the Regular the characters join and it looks like a neatly written sprencerian handwriting. But like Narziss it has got a Swirls version too. Every glyph and swirl is carefully designed to work in every connection. Use Glenda at only very large sizes.

Whichit contains typefaces designed with a hexagonal motif. The opposite sides of the hexagon are parallel but two of them are longer than the other four. It does not have reflective symmetry so flipping it over a vertical line returns a different appearance. One of these appearances is the basis for WhichIt and the other for WhichItTwo. Each has three weights and each weight has an italic style. The result is a quirky sans-serif family of a dozen faces.

Tudor Perpendicular is Greater Albion's seasonal Black letter release (not that we rule out the possibility of non-seasonal ones...) for 2012. As the name suggests, it is a design which emphasises, and yes, exaggerates for effect, the perpendicular up and down nature of Black Letter typefaces. There's no particular historical basis for this one - straight out of our own minds, just as a lot of Black letter 'revivals' have been over the years. Come and visit 'Ye Olde' world today...
