Grava is Neil Summerour’s injection of warmth within the geometric sans font category. The Slatz Font Family is Vertical. It has a slender, consistent weight that is best used in limited, left to Right, space limitations as to maximize font height. Slatz font variations all have extremely clean edges and even the serif versions are crisply defined with a flat-pointed serif for an added unique character. The designed intent was for a tight kern, however evenly letterspacing these family members give a distinct personality and continues to command the negative space just as in tight kerned examples. The compatible relationship of these font family members, serif to sans serif, and regular to italic is seamless and the overall design coloring of words as sentences is well balanced and extremely legible. The Slatz Family fonts are matching members glyph to glyph yet there is a noticeable difference between the serif and sans serif members. The sans serif works in contemporary and vintage settings. Kiosk is a prominent display typeface pair. It is a sturdy condensed sans serif and an eloquent brush script. In addition there are textured “print” versions of them both. Neue Jugend is an art nouveau typeface orientated on letter shapes of original Jugendstil fonts. The shapes are reduced to a straight modern look, so one could say it is the 21st century art nouveau. Neue Jugend supports all latin languages and their is a little ligature to bring P and Y closer together, if wanted. It is an uppercase typeface, so it is suggested to be used in headlines. For example on a poster or a book.

In the German city of Bad Neuenahr you can visit a spa called Thermal Badehaus. This beautiful art deco building has an even more beautiful art deco lettering covering its facade. I had to work with only a couple of glyphs ('Thermal Badehaus' to be exact) and tried to capture their beauty in the remaining glyphs. The result is a font called Badehaus (Bath House in German). It is a bold, all caps typeface, with some unique glyphs.

Melancholia is a subtle and beautiful sans-serif inspired by calligraphic letterforms. The name describes a feeling of deep sadness, an intense sensitivity to the world. The design of Melancholia is an attempt to introduce some of that wistfulness into the sans-serif form, a typographic classification that is often characterised by an austere functionality. Melancholia includes a set of true italics influenced by old-style serif italics, such as those found in Claude Garamond’s eponymous typeface, as well as a set of stylistic alternates and calligraphic-style swash characters.

Foundry Context is a sans serif family designed to be universal in many contexts – hence the name. A ‘no-nonsense’ typeface, reminiscent of 19th century sans serif faces, Foundry Context has very round, pure letterforms, crafted without being over refined, and having minimal stroke contrast in the neo-grotesque style. A hint of personality has emerged from the very drawing of the proportions, strokes, and terminals, yet Foundry Context is still neutral enough to compete in the grotesk arena, and at the same time has something new to say.

The Teapot Dome scandal was a 1920s bribery scandal involving Secretary of the Interior Albert Bacon Fall. Fall leased Navy petroleum reserves at Teapot Dome in Wyoming [along with some California reserves] at low rates with no competitive bidding. The San Francisco Examiner for Feb. 20, 1924 ran the two line headline “U.S. Senator Named as Oil Stock Speculator; Whitney to Face Quiz Today on Slush Fund”. The headline was set in a condensed, slightly squared sans serif typeface. This is now available as Special Edition JNL in both regular and oblique versions.
