The design of the first "Fat Face" is credited to Robert Thorne just after 1800 in England. It is considered to be the first type style designed specifically for display or jobbing, rather than for book work. The first instance of Fat Face in wood type is found in the first wood type specimen book ever produced: Darius Wells, Letter Cutter 1828. This style was produced by all early wood type manufacturers. The style is derived from the high contrast, thick and thin Modern style of Bodoni and Didot developed only decades previously. The extended variation makes the face even more of a display type and not at all suitable for text. This type of display type was used to compete with the new Lithographic process which allowed for the development of the poster as an artform unto itself. Arapix is a 12 pixel high multilingual Latin-Arabic pixel font with incredible capabilities. The Arapix is an almost traditional Naskh. It is elegant and easy to read even in very small sizes. It includes almost every feature you would expect from a high range Naskh font. Its humanistic look and feel fit perfectly to its Latin counterpart. Arapix was originally designed for a web project that didn't see the light a few years back. It started with the idea of fitting both Latin and Arabic into a 12 pixel vertical grid. The latin glyphs fit properly within the vertical limits, but when it came to the arabic glyphs, it proved to be more challenging. Arabic letters with lower diacritic dots like the (Yeh-fina) or letters with accents above like the (Alef-Hamza-above) need much more space than any Latin letter. Add to this the fact that accents needs to be positioned above and below the glyphs. It is technically impossible to fit a (Yeh-fina-kasratan) or a (Alef-Hamza-above-shadda-damma) into 12 pixels. Initially the accents were dropped and not included in the design. Although it seemed impossible at the start, Sylvain found a solution in the end, including as many contextual alternates and contextual kerning as needed to avoid every collision between letters and diacritics, letters and accents, and diacritics and accents. The contextual kerning was added to achieve an even letter and word spacing in longer text. Arapix is amazingly legible in small size on screen and in print. Abakadabra is a headline typeface inspired by sans-serifs of the first half of the twentieth century, as well as by the tricks of fakirs, illusionists and charmers. TT Ricordi Greto is Kseniya Karataeva’s original experimental project, inspired by a floor plaque dating from 1423 found in the Basilica di Santa Croce, Florence. When working on the typeface, we wanted to do something new and modern, but at the same time find details or artifacts in the source that could be exaggerated to the maximum. TT Ricordi Greto is a non-contrasting Florentine sans-serif with dynamic proportions and a hint on what would be serifs. The main features of the typeface are the closed aperture, dynamic proportions, and the combination of historical forms with modern visual solutions, flowing terminals with curling dash ends and flared ends, and subtle serifs that hint at the historical material. Grafinc is fat, black and robust. It is a geometric-based display typeface that comes in two cuts: ExtraBlack and Rounded. Grafinc can be used for all types of media – print, web, broadcasting or games. Despite its robust appearance and display character, Grafinc is very friendly typeface. It appears to be very legible in smaller sizes, too. The cuts include some very fine ligatures, making its appearance very rhythmic and smooth. Available in OpenType and western languages.

To snuggle is "settle or move into a warm, comfortable position" - that is exactly what I did with making this chunky seriffed font. Well, maybe not a position, but a comfortable mood! I tried to mix some gentle grafitti moves and comic letters, and then a touch of the classic goofy pizzadude style - and the result is this cheeky font called Snuggle Punk. Full of round corners and fat lines - sounds like a nice cup of coffee! :)

Is a recreational typography. Created from experimentation of the Slab Serif style with asymmetric lines. Bock is compact and stable, although having the quality of breaking the typographic rhythm, to benefit its use in short words as logotypes and lowering of text in editorials and publicity. The Fat variable was devised as an extension of the Bock concept, deleting the inner and outer space that surrounds a letter, creating a font with much weight and attitude.

Tomate started in 2006 as a brush lettering exercise for a poster and was later used for the ReType identity. In 2008 its author decided to turn it into a super fat typeface suitable for packaging and mass consumption products. The possibilities of ultra heavy forms are explored in this alphabet; trying to solve the design problems that these sort of forms present. Tomate shows influences from the beautiful Goudy Heavyface Italic which is a design the author admires.

You may already have guessed it...Litter Funk is experimental typography. Some letters are fat blocks, others have stars, stripes or dots, some are funny and funky while others are plain weird - but all in all, they leave a really nice confusing effect when used.
