A 1930s menu from a restaurant with locations in both Long Island and Miami Beach called the “Roadside Rest” sported on its cover some very unusual Art Deco outline lettering. I have seen my share of badly stuffed animals. Most of them via pictures, but also on vacations here and there. They all had this really bad handcraft vibe, but at the same time some really ordinary and kind of cute looks. I did my best to capture this look and feeling in my Badly Stuffed Animal font: clumsy letters made with a blobbly pen, with naive and irregular lines - and the conclusion is something super useful for a project that needs an organic handmade look!

Shaking hands is quite a complicated process: do it too lightly and you appear weak, grab too hard and you’re too eager. There are also those with a ‘Guerrilla Handshake’ - grabbing your hand unexpectedly, shaking it vigorously and yanking it toward them. Guerrilla Handshake font was actually made by hand, using Chinese ink and a brush. I did use the brush vigorously, but I made sure not to shake or yank it too much! Guerrilla Handshake comes in a slightly backslanted ‘regular’ version and an italic version.

Vintage sheet music for the 1920s song "Where Did Robinson Crusoe Go with Friday on Saturday Night?" yielded the hand lettered Art Nouveau alphabet for Nouveau Display JNL. Because the Art Nouveau movement was so influential in the graphic designs of the 1960s "Love Generation" counter culture, this typeface blends itself well with projects crossing many decades and varying styles.

This all started as a bunch of letter written using a squared paper as a guide. It all turned out fine, but there was something that wasn't quite right...it was boring! I took all the letters and grunge it all up and did all the drips as well - and suddenly that boring look was gone! That was an unlikely development!

Luscombe is a boisterous and lively display face, recalling the shaded and outlined faced much beloved of 1920s poster and advertising artists, while offering a regularity of outline that those faces often did not achieve.
