I have always liked handmade display fonts - maybe that’s why I have so many of them! Display Patrol is a rather fat, in your face font. It is completely handmade and comes in two distinct styles: regular and dots. Use it for your posters, books and product packaging. I am sure it will stand out!

Check out Mr Gabe in motion! Mr Gabe is a typeface designed to dance. Not that it’s a flamboyant display face, but that it has a liveliness, especially in its heavier weights, that dances across the page. And the letters include a selection of exuberant flourishes that can be used to kick up a ruckus or make a sweeping gesture. Mr Gabe is a high-contrast serif typeface with vertical stress, a “modern” face in traditional type terms. Even in the regular weight, the contrast between thick and thin strokes is very obvious. Designer Andrea Leksen has given many of the lowercase letters ball terminals, teardrop shapes that make Mr Gabe seem decorated even when most of its letter forms are conservative. If you need more bells and whistles, or perhaps revolving mirror balls and dancing shoes, you can explore the font’s collection of ornaments and decorative borders. Mr Gabe comes in four weights, from Regular to Black, with italics for each. Each font includes over 57 ligatures, 31 illustrations and borders, small caps and proportional oldstyle numerals.

Brazilian designer Eduardo Omine designed his Beret family of typefaces in an attempt to create a warm counterpart to the clean, minimalist sans serif of the 20th Century. The most individual characteristics of Beret are the terminals at the ends of its vertical strokes. They are slightly bent", simulating a subtle flare. Like many classic sans-serif typefaces (e.g., the original Syntax and Univers), this family does not include true (calligraphic) italics. Instead, a masterful set of obliques has been created. As Stanley Morison articulated in the early 1920s and 30s, these slanted versions of the regular "roman" faces may even work better when one wishes to emphasize certain words or passages within a text. The Beret family of typefaces is suitable for numerous applications, in both text and display sizes. The following nine fonts make up the family's design: Beret Light, Beret Light Italic, Beret Book, Beret Book Italic, Beret Regular, Beret Medium, Beret Medium Italic, Beret Bold, and Beret Bold Italic. Georgia was originally designed in 1996 by Matthew Carter and hand-tuned for the screen by Tom Rickner. The Georgia family received a major update in 2011 by Monotype Imaging, The Font Bureau and Matthew Carter. Georgia is the serif companion to the sans serif screen font, Verdana. It was designed specifically to address the challenges of on-screen display with elegant yet sturdy and open forms. If you must have one serif face for reading on a computer, then you've found the best one right here. The original Georgia family included four fonts: regular, italic, bold and bold italic. The new and expanded Georgia Pro family contains 20 fonts in total. The Georgia Pro and Georgia Pro Condensed families each contain 10 fonts: Light, Regular, Semibold, Bold and Black (each with matching italic styles). Georgia Pro includes a variety of advanced typographic features including true small capitals, ligatures, fractions, old style figures, lining tabular figures and lining proportional figures. An OpenType-savvy application is required to access these typographic features.

Ansage does not claim to be neutral; it escapes from the rationalist sans of closed strokes and regular forms. Meaning Announcement in German, Ansage is versatile and communicates effectively across a broad range of media and formats such as branding, posters, websites, apps, titles and compositions with little spacing). Ansage is a sans serif font with a strong personality that emerges from an interest in and the study of a wide variety of typographic specimens of Gothic fonts from the nineteenth century. The design process behind Ansage brought about constant transformations in form; the result is a compact and robust font, with a large x-height, small ascenders and descenders, and open terminals that grow in expressiveness as it increases in weight. It is available in 10 weights, ranging from Hairline to Black, and 3 widths – Condensed, Regular and Expanded – plus italics, which make a total of 60 perfect variables to combine and contrast with each other. In addition, it also includes multiple open-type functions such as alternative styles, Old Style Figures, Tabular Forms, fractions, case sensitive, ligatures and more.

Mellow Serif is a soft and friendly typeface. It looks compelling in large point sizes due to the rounded terminals and calligraphic details. Mellow Serif also works well in body text with a small leading size as it has even proportions and a large x-height. Mellow Serif includes ten styles—five upright and five italic, ranging from Light to Extra Bold. The typeface supports extended Latin, extended Cyrillic, and Greek. The character set also includes old style figures, small caps in the Light, Regular, and Medium upright styles as well as stylistic alternate sets that slightly change the way Mellow Serif looks in large point sizes. The Regular style also has alternative letterforms with swashes. Mellow Serif is great for book printing (from fiction and children’s books to science literature), headings, and large texts on the web as well as for toys and confectionary packaging. It also works perfectly with a rounded sans serif Mellow Sans. Mellow Serif was created by Natalya Vasilyeva, an expert in designing text and calligraphic typefaces, and released by Paratype in 2023.

I am a coffee person, but two years ago, just before the whole Covid-thing happened, I came down with what I assumed to be the flu. It was a really nasty flu as well: I was down for 10 days or so and when I sort of recovered, nothing tasted the same. Coffee tasted like cardboard and I couldn't stand the taste of it, so I decided to drink tea instead. The 'supermarket tea' we have in Holland is quite bad and tasteless, so I ordered some proper strong English tea online and I have been drinking it ever since. Of course I was thinking of this when I created Imperial Tea font. Imperial Tea font was made with... yes, you've guessed it: Chinese ink and a brush. Imperial Tea is a nice, 'oriental-ish' looking font that comes with a set of alternate glyphs and an impressive language support, including Vietnamese and Greek.

Hodgepodge is a confused mixture of letters that somehow work together. While I know this has been done before I create fonts that I need. And I occasionally have found a need for this. And it was not there, so now it is. There is a mixture of light and dark, bold and regular, caps and lower case but not where you would expect them to be. Since this is a headline font you can set the headline and then easily go back and change a letter here or there to get the best-looking combination. Hodgepodge was in the 2011 Typodarium Page-A-Day Calendar on 7-17-2011.

Corton was inspired by the traditional lettering on a gravestone in an English village. While that might sound a rather solemn beginning, Corton has wonderfully lively air, with distinctive lively serifs and beautifully swashed downstrokes. Almost a straightened italic typeface, August explores the idea of taking italic and script letterforms out of context and creating a typeface with a mix of references that does not look like too soft and feminine, but has a sharpness and angularity in some of its characters that jars against this softness.

The basis for a lot of the characters did begin with a circle or sections of one; the equally distributed, rounded forms of this font are complemented however by the vertical strokes, and further counter-balanced by angular slab serifs on the remaining glyphs. Curved alternates with a celtic vibe are also included in the fonts and feature on the default slots in the separate Cyclic Uncial set. In summary, the whole Cyclic type family comprises a combined palette of circles and straight lines; something the cubist movement would have been proud of!

Imagine being printer in the early nineteenth century, your stock isn’t the finest, your lead characters are worn out: Voilá Kandidat Rough. But wait, Kandidat isn’t the usual scan-an-old-book,-put-the-glyphs-in-a-font-and-you’re-done-font. Kandidat Rough has a variety of whopping 14 alternates for most characters. Our algorithm changes the letters automatically. All you have to do is turn on Contextual Alternates in your layout app. The algorithm is the best we’ve seen so far, and it’s so good that even same words appear in different forms. And should by coincidence words have the same glyphs, just assign a different Style Set to the first letter, and all other letters in the word will change as well (well, it depends a bit on your software). The mechanism isn’t perfect and maybe we stretched OpenType capabilities a bit over the top, but we yet haven’t seen any better routine for switching letters on the fly. Is it worth to mention that Kandidat Rough not only speaks English, but also German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Croatian, Turkish and most likely some other languages? Maybe. And now imagine you are sick of the rugged print experience Kandidat Rough delivers: go for Kandidat. This is our Scotch-ish ancestor the Rough version was made from. A sturdy, friendly, round, warm friend from the beginning of the nineteenth century. A bit dark, maybe. You will like it. Kandidat has the aforementioned type set plus complete Baltics, Eastern Europe and Cyrillic. Plus a couple of gimmicks like fleurons, stars, circled numbers, arrows, and, and, and… Kandidat Regular additionally has small caps for Latin based scripts (not Cyrillic). The spick and span Kandidat font set also consists of Regular, Italic and Bold cuts. The bold cut is on the very bold side and can nicely be used for headings, whereas Italic is a great companion for Regular. It took us some time and trouble to finish this project, but after all we are very proud of our little feat and hope you will enjoy Kandidat as much as we do. Enjoy!

The idea for Granat goes back to my mysterious typeface Telepiu and later Teleneue. The straight horizontal bars in combination with the round joins create a very unique character. With Granat I wanted to push this style even further. Like in Teleneue Granat comes with a monocase version without any ascenders or descenders for all 7 weights from Regular to Ultrabold.
