Ed Benguiat drew the PL Bernhardt font which was released in 1970. PL Bernhardt was modeled after a 1930/1931 design by Lucian Bernhard. All terminals on non-vertical strokes are diagonal so that lower and uppercase X looks as though they are dancing.

Inspired by a bustling village within Aotearoa New Zealand’s capital city of Wellington, Tinakori is an elegant and sophisticated serif font that invokes art deco, classical art and thin balletic structures. It’s been a passion project that’s finally come to fruition. The simple italic and bold versions help accentuate the individuality of the serif which is precise but holds a fluidity that makes it feel inventive.

The term "transcribed" takes on many definitions. In sheet music (the source of this type face design) it means to set down onto paper. In the formative days of radio, and until the advent of the tape recorder, radio stations depended on 16 inch wide recordable discs known as transcriptions. These discs were generally aluminum base with a soft lacquer coating that was cut with a heated stylus. This was the only way a program could be recorded and preserved for later broadcast or copied for syndication. Transcribed JNL is a hand lettered sans in the chamfer style of block lettering, based on vintage sheet music displaying the name and address for Zenith Music Publications.

Dueblo is a font family in serif, sans serif and semi serif with variability in weight and serifs. It's a classical antiqua with a sans serif basis, a semi serif version, two decor styles for headlines and initials and the italics in sans and in serif. Morris Fuller Benton, the principal designer of the American Type Founders, designed Mariage in 1901. Mariage, which has been sold under a plethora of different names during the last century, is a blackletter typeface belonging to the Old English category. The term blackletter refers to typefaces that stem out of the historical printing traditions of northern Europe. These letters, called gebrochene Schriften, or "broken type" in German, are normally elaborately bent and distorted. Their forms often print large amounts of ink upon the page, creating text that leaves a heavy, black impression. The Old English style is a subset of blackletter type that dates back to 1498, when Wynken de Worde introduced textura style printing to England. Continental printers had been printing with textura style letters since Gutenberg's invention of the printing press fifty years earlier. Italian printers stopped using them around 1470. For northern Europeans, texturas remained the most popular form of typeface design until the invention of the fraktur style in Nuremberg. Mariage is heavily classicized sort of Old English type. During the Victorian era, designers admired the Middle Ages for its chivalric, community-based values and its pre-industrial lifestyle. Yet they also found the basic medieval textura letterform too difficult to read by present standards. They desired to modernize this old style. Today, this sort of update is often referred to not as "modernization" but as classicism. Benton's design for ATF builds upon earlier Victorian classicist interpretations of Old English/textura letters. For an example of what these Victorian designs looked like, check out the popular 1990 revival of the genre, Old English . Old English style types often appear drastically different from other blackletters. For contrast, compare Mariage to a classical German fraktur design, Fette Fraktur , a schwabacher style face, or the popular early 20th Century calligraphic gothic from Linotype, Wilhelm Klingspor Gotisch . Especially in the United States, classicist Old English typefaces are thought to espouse tradition and journalistic integrity. These features, together with the inherent, complex beauty of Mariage's forms, make this typeface a perfect choice for certificates, awards, and newsletter mastheads.

Our font (circa 1895) of this old wood type was made by Hamilton of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, but we have been told that another identical font was made earlier by W. H. Page, Greeneville, Connecticut. Hamilton became the final home of many of the old wood type patterns as the early companies went out of business.

The design of Pelin, which began as an experiment, inspired by the harmony created by the contrast between the soft, flowing movements and sharp movements found in Circassian dances. To capture this harmony, both curved and sharp lines were used along with stems that contrasting angles.

Stencil Sheet JNL was modeled from an antique brass stencil sign that was custom hand punched for the customer. Sets of punch dies were available for years that allowed rubber stamp shops and similar trades to make custom stencils out of sheets of zinc or brass.
