Nick Curtis has created this stylish, Deco inspired design, packed full of quirky features and characters. Some of the letterforms, like the uppercase K, appear to be walking. Hierra is a reinterpretation or redraw letter design of a font that appears in the collection of fonts of Dan X. Solo. Strong German flavor this is a letter of rough edges and a special blackness that recalls ancient typefaces Art & Crafts. Hierra is also presented in the Rough version which increases their antique woodtype appearance.

Here's a great old face from the H. W. Caslon foundry in London; a real workhorse. The lowercase is eminently readable, so you can set entire paragraphs to good effect. We don't recommend it for setting all caps, but we did take time to kern it well; so you won't get a jumble of ovelapping letters if you do.

Bold Bavarian is a heavy version of my Royal Bavarian that was commissioned by King Ludwig 1st of Bavaria about 1834. I always thought, that I should design a really bold version and now finally I did. But I think it should not be mixed together with the normal version. In his book Victorian Display Alphabets, Dan X. Solo called this specimen "Marquette". This unicase version features a complete character set, and is named after a favorite watering hole in Texas on the Guadeloupe River. Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

While browsing through a Dan Solo type reference book, Jeff Levine fell in love with the multiline stylings of one particular typeface, then sat down and re-drew from scratch his own interpretation of the design. Jeff's version is called Art Lover JNL - offering kudos to art in general, the Art Deco movement and (of course) type design.

While working on a font based on Spencerian Script (a popular late 19th century handwriting style) we did some experimenting with original designs which created the general feel of Spencerian and brought to mind the spidery handwriting of old ladies and Dickensian clerks. The result was Arakne, a spidery script font with a really striking look.

I’ve never been one for zombies and all that. I did watch a couple of seasons of The Walking Dead, but after the 2.000.000th zombie got whacked, I had enough. When I made this font, it gave me a zombie feeling. One thing I learned from watching TWD was that zombies are always hungry. There you have it!

A typeface named Sorbonne, unearthed by intrepid font-finder Dan X. Solo, provided the pattern for this quaint little charmer. The exaggerated serifs make it stand out in a crowd, while still retaining an understated elegance. Four letters for this font came from a puzzle in a 1983 Games magazine. After seeing them, I could not resist the temptation to do a complete set of letters made from push pins or tacks, a truly tacky font. Fonts should be living, breathing organisms. Dino Feed wanted to see a font with character, so we created Groove Town Sans. This hand-drawn font has 122 glyphs and is made for Latin-based languages. The 1928 logotype for Sertal Toiletries consisted of a stylized woman's head, a very snaky S, and five fine, fat deco caps spelling out the rest of the brand name. From these five clues, designer Nick Curtis divined the rules" of the typeface and drew a complete alphabet, including a lower case. The result: ITC Scram Gravy. The finished product could be described as Bodoni on steroids. Tight curls in characters like the 'm,' 'r' and 'y' soften the lower case and give the design a light-hearted flavor. ITC Scram Gravy takes its name from one of many running gags in the screwball comic strip "Smokey Stover," which had folks alternately splitting their sides and scratching their heads from 1935 to 1973. Those familiar with Bill Holman's strip will recall Smokey's car, the Foomobile, and one of his famous nonsense declarations: "No foo-ling, that scram gravy ain't wavy.""

Wakandan is an alphabet designed by Hannah Beachler, and used in the 2018 film Black Panther. It is based on Nsibidi symbols. In the film it is used to transliterate English text in the credits and other on-screen text. Another script used in the film was developed by Oluwaseun Osewa and inspired by Nsibidi, a system of symbols used in southeastern Nigeria between about 400 and 1400 AD. In addition, the symbols of several different ancient languages ​​were also used for the alphabet. Like Old North Arabia, Old Tifinagh. I did not draw for this font, except for a few letters. I transferred the sound values ​​from the ancient writing languages ​​fonts that I had made before to the Wakanda font, so I did not take much time, I finished it in 4-5 hours.

Since many years I live in Munich and read the daily newspaper Abendzeitung. One morning they had redesigned the paper, using Eric Gill's Joanna for the body copy and a tweaked version of Franklin Gothic for the headlines. Since both typefaces are my all-time favorites, I was very pleased. The old hand-lettered title lettering designed by in-house designer Ernst Friedrich Adler around 1947 or 48 was untouched as it always was. Adler had worked for the newspaper an incredible 47 years! Ernst Friedrich Adler celebrated his 100th birthday in the summer of 2007 looking very healthy. But someone had adapted his title lettering for use in the chapter headings, and I did not like the way that was done. Every morning I saw those letters and thought "one day I have to clean that up". About 15 years later I finally did it! Being at it, I designed the whole typeface and added a second fancy cut. And, what do you know, the people at the Abendzeitung called me up and said they liked what I did and started using it. So since that day in 2005 I can read my morning paper without having to wonder about the chapter headings. Well maybe one day they will do another redesign and maybe they will use another one of my fonts. Your editorial typeface designer, Gert

Blackheat is a bold, condensed sans with 4 styles inspired by the title of the sports poster. We designed it to look very energetic, taking into account the thickness and density of each glyph. Although this condensed type is ideal for titles and headlines, it has small caps and letters with diacritical marks included as well. It keeps readability at mind, while trying to be as much "done-by-hand" as it can. It has unique tears on each edge of each letter and tilting on certain "slices of tape".

Autovia is a condensed sans-serif based on the typeface created for the US Highway signs in the 50s. Autovia comes in 6 weights. LTC Spire with alternate caps was designed by Lanston’s type director Sol Hess in 1937. Spire Roman was designed without lowercase. But it includes alternate rounded caps which transform this extra condensed “fat face” into more of an art deco titling face. Spire Roman has been used within department store logos, luxury hotel signage, perfumes, etc, etc.

In the 1930s the WPA (Works Progress Administration) was involved with getting a number of Americans back to work during the Great Depression. One faction of the WPA's efforts was the Federal Art Project. Thin, condensed hand lettering on a poster for an Art Exhibition at the New Bedford Free Public Library is the inspiration for Art Exhibit JNL.

SERID is a display font condensed and regular designed for editorial applications. Inverted contrast, features a serif hybrid that gives a decorative character and personality to the font.
