Das Grotesk was inspired by earlier nineteenth-century grotesques, but it is much more related to American gothic designs such as those by M.F. Benton. Due to their pure geometric structure, most grotesque typefaces tend to have a rather monotonous and lifeless appearance, thus failing to express the ideals of the modern creed. Das Grotesk on the other hand is a lively design with several distinguishable characteristics which attract attention when set at large sizes, whilst they become subtle and blend evenly at small sizes, fostering a neutral identity. This is a very legible and space-saving typeface with a narrow structure. It was designed with slanted curved ends and sheared terminals applied on several straight strokes. It has two-storey ‘a’ and ‘g’ but includes single-storey alternates. The family consists of 14 weights ranging from Extra Thin to Black (including true-italics). An isolated typeface design with a calligraphic flavor. The Nastarkib font family employs visual features from the Urdu Persian Nastaliq Calligraphy. Visual connectivity is accomplished by overlapping glyphs with downward slopes. Recta was one of Aldo Novarese’s earliest contributions to the massive surge of the European sans serif genre that was booming in the middle of the 20th century. Plantin is a Renaissance Roman as seen through a late–industrial-revolution paradigm. In 1912 Frank Hinman Pierpont of English Monotype visited the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp, returning home with “knowledge, hundreds of photographs, and a stack of antique typeset specimens including a few examples of Robert Granjon’s.” Together with Fritz Stelzer of the Monotype Drawing Office, Pierpont took one of these overinked proofs taken from worn type to use as the basis of a new text face for machine composition. Malou Verlomme designed Madera with graphic designers in mind – drawing on his decade of experience designing bespoke type to create a versatile, easy-to-use geometric sans serif that ticks off a long list of branding requirements. Its sharp apexes add some flavour to the design, which offers an honest, trustworthy tone of voice – but with a twist. “The design doesn’t go out of its way to attract attention, but is still very solid,” explains Verlomme. “It still has a fair amount of warmth and personality, in a very understated manner. If you’re a large corporation, with a typeface being used in many different environments, you want something that’s easy to use but can sustain such a large amount of visibility.” The Madera typeface family has 32 fonts: Upright, Condensed and Italics. Each typeface contains over 650 glyphs with extensive Western, Central and Eastern European language support. It also supports OpenType typographic features like alternatives, ligatures and fractions. Madera Variables are font files which are featuring two axis and have a preset instance from Hairline to Extra Black.

Aeroport is a new typeface in the spirit of both German geometric sans serifs and Swiss neogrotesques. Its deliberately wide proportions and relatively short capitals account for the excellent way the type carries the line. Its short ascenders and descenders allow for very tight leading. When used in large point sizes, Aeroport reveals its industrial ancestry and its unconventional design: the somewhat unbalanced top of the lowercase a, the capital B that has deliberately not been compensated optically, the overly wide capital M. In smaller sizes the type creates a starkly different effect: its measured widths and low contrast make a text setting appear neutral and homogenous. This versatility is what makes Aeroport a multipurpose sans serif suitable for a wide variety of typographic applications. The family includes four weights with their italics and a monospased style. Character set includes an alternate lowercase a, two sets of figures and currency symbols, uppercase punctuation, and a set of arrows. Sam Suliman is a condensed display face supplied in three weights – Regular, Medium and Bold – plus a set of handy italics (obliques). All six fonts are included in the value family pack. The fonts are inspired by lowercase lettering on a Sarah Vaughan album cover designed by Sam Suliman in 1962, a style which contrasts sharp tight outer corners with soft rounded counters. The letters were perhaps influenced by a Solotype font called Herald Square, but without that font’s aversion to diagonals, and adding distinctive perky ascenders/descenders on the lowercase r, a, u, g and n. The Sam Suliman fonts also add the nubs to d, m, p, and q. Suliman was born in Manchester, England in 1927. After working for McCann Erikson in London, he moved to New York where he took on freelance work designing album covers, particularly celebrated are his striking minimalist designs for jazz records. He moved back to England in the early 1960s, designing many book jackets, film titles and fabrics, also working in Spain and India before settling in Oxford in the 1980s.
