Adis Ababa is a font based on an ancient Ge'ez script. The Ge'ez alphabet is the written language of the ancient ancestors of the Ethiopian and Eritrean nation. It is not a Latin or Greek based alphabet and I have striven in this font to present a readable Latin alphabet that visually reminds me of some of the examples of the writing that I have seen.

P22 CoDependent is a revival of the Independant typeface from 1930 created by Dutch designer Johannes Nicolaas Coenraad Collette along with Jos Dufour from Belgium. Independant was released in metal by the Belgian division of the Amsterdam Type Foundry in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the independence of Belgium from the Netherlands. Despite the name, the two fonts contained in the set, Regular and Shadow, are not codependent upon each other. They can be used alone, but together they can create a dynamic two-color option. There have been other fonts inspired by and revived directly from Independant, but this version adheres the original design with the added consideration of how the shadow version will overlap.

Ablati is the commercial release of the font designed during the production of our new font design book, “Practical Font Design”. It is a new serif font in my continuing objective of designing book fonts that I can really use. In many ways, Ablati is a very different direction for me. Designed to produce gaphics to use in the font design book, I was forced to really reconsider many of my working methods to make them work for outside readership. Like all designers, my internal design processes can get really sloppy. The book helped me clean up my act. Taking my inspiration from one of my favorite fonts of all time {though I've never really been able to use it much}, Romic, by Colin at Letraset, I decided to design a unilateral serif font. In most ways, this is a normal serif for me in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This font has all the OpenType features in the new set developed for the book. There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Several alternative forms, a dozen ornaments, and more. Like all of my fonts, there are: caps, lowercase, small caps, proportional lining figures, proportional oldstyle figures, & small cap figures, plus numerators, denominators, superiors, inferiors, and a complete set of ordinals 1st through infinity. Attempting to marry the warm friendliness of the Cubano typeface with the versatility, functionality, and geometry of Eurostile has resulted in Cubenzis. After finishing the regular weight, I realized that it reminded me of old Soviet military hardware, something you might see on the outside of a tank or rocket, so i made the decision to include a full Cyrillic alphabet as well. It feels very sci-fi to me and i can imagine it being used as signage on a ship or as a warning label on machinery.

A friend bought me a Chinese calligraphic brush set in a beautifully decorated box. I started to letter the alphabet on parchment, in my own hand, using quick strokes and found the resulting script had an interesting energy to it. After further refinement in my font application software 'Swordtail' was born. A great free-hand script.

Good ideas never will die. Based on the concepts of former Leipzig student Volker Küster in the mid-1960s, I redrew and digitized the basics and extended them into a complete multilingual caps-only poster font which I named “Brocken”. Its letter-forms strongly remind me of the mighty rocks covering the highest peak, Brocken, in Northern Germany.
