  19. Chong Old Style by Monotype, $29.99
In the tradition of Goudy Old Style and Goudy Modern, Chong Wah drew Chong Old Style™ and Chong Modern™ as visually different – but complementary – designs. According to Chong Wah, “The extended family of typefaces started as a concept rather than a preconceived design. The concept is different sans serif type styles with a common underlying structure and a clear lineage to traditional serif designs. While there are similarities between the designs, each typeface was drawn as a separate entity.” Chong Old Style has the flavor of traditional old style designs without slavishly replicating the earlier design traits. It has the heft and color of an old style design but lacks the serifs and inclined stroke axis customarily seen in these typefaces. The result is a versatile suite of typefaces that deliver a straightforward message in large or small sizes. Chong Modern is a sans serif interpretation of the classic modern, or neoclassical, designs of Bodoni and Didot. More than a Bodoni without serifs, Chong Modern also has an elegant, Art Deco demeanor. This is a design that walks the line between traditional and contemporary with grace and aplomb. Chong Wah drew his Old Style and Modern designs in Light, Regular and Bold weights, adding an Extra Bold to the Old Style. All designs benefit from harmonizing italic counterparts. Both branches of the Chong family are also available as OpenType Pro fonts, allowing graphic communicators to take advantage of OpenType’s diverse capabilities. These fonts, in addition to providing for the automatic insertion of old style figures, ligatures and small caps, also offer an extended character set supporting most Central European and many Eastern European languages

  25. Teeshirt by Typodermic, $11.95
Hey there, so you want to look like a walking throwback to the 1980s? Well, lucky for you, Teeshirt is here to help you achieve that coveted slovenly appearance. If you’re looking for a typeface that screams, “I don’t care” then Teeshirt is your new best friend. It’s designed to mimic vintage t-shirt lettering, so you can rock that “I just rolled out of bed and put on the first thing I found on my floor” look. And if you’re worried about being too uniform with your letters, fear not! Teeshirt has got you covered with letter pair ligatures. Because who wants to look like they put any effort into their appearance, right? And if you’re feeling adventurous and want to shake things up a bit, you can always disable the “standard ligatures” feature in your application. Teeshirt comes in two styles: Regular and Pressed. The bouncy Regular style will make it look like your letters are ready to jump right off your shirt, while the orderly Pressed style will give you that crisp, just-ironed look (although let’s be real, who has time for ironing?). So what are you waiting for? Embrace your inner sloth and give Teeshirt a try. Because who needs effort and a polished appearance when you can look like a hot mess instead? 31. Mundbind DK by PizzaDude.dk, $15.00
A few days ago, my good friend David from Hanoded.com visited me for a few days. We drank a lot of coffee and walked the streets of Copenhagen - we even took a trip up in Rundetårn! :) Well, on one of our walk (of course looking for inspiration for new fonts) we spotted this handmade sign. We agreed to make a font of the 7 letters available, using our own imagination and style! I called my font Mundbind DK and David named his Mundbind NL - of course it is the landcodes of Denmark and Holland. As you can tell, the font is uneven and somewhat unpredictable - following only the "rules" of the person who handprinted that sign ... and not many of the rules of the good old and respected painter who make beautiful signs ... however, this sign had it's beauty in a natural and innocent way.

Signyard features 6 styles, 4 layers, symbols and opentype features. Opentype features include automatic fractions, subscript numbers, superscript numbers, and double-letter ligatures. 37. 8th Avenue by Our House Graphics, $16.00
Inspired by the strange, blocky lettering on the sides of a set of a set of plastic kitchen containers in my childhood home, 8th Avenue is a sophisticated, somewhat syncopated font with a retro look and feel that at the same time brings a very modern attitude to your design. 8th Avenue works well as display font for packaging, headlines and logos. Those pastel turquoise plastic boxes from the early 1950s, with white screen printed letters reading FLOUR, SUGAR, COFFEE etc. on one side were a simple quiet presence in our home back then and for decades after. Seeing them, even that soft blue-green colour felt like home. SUGAR, the soul survivor of that set has become one of those mundane items of daily life that somehow become simple icons of another time, ripe with memories. Obviously I had to make a font.
