In 1995, when indie rock hipness was just reaching its pique, Chank was really into Jawbox, a post-punk band from DC. It was their music he was listening to when he made this font for the Space Ghost web site. The band broke up in 1997, but the font named in their honor lives on. This font family includes Jawbox, Jawbox Chanky, and Jawbreaker.

Woodtype wizard Rob Roy Kelly identified the inspiration for this typeface in his 100 Wood Type Alphabets simply as "No. 154". Funky, chunky, round and robust, it’s clearly a barrel of fun. Named after a small town in Central Texas, which just happens to be the home of Dell Computer. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

I like strange words. Widdershins is one of them: it means ‘to go counter clockwise’ and I picked it up from a book I am reading at the moment. Widdershins font was created using a broken bamboo satay skewer and Chinese ink. It is a little messy, uneven and maybe even unnerving, but I am sure you’ll find a way to put it to good use.

This font, is dedicated to all the Russian and non-Russian Babushkas around the world. This font was created using a flat brush and Chinese ink. After that I scanned all the letters and numbers and created the real font. Designed by Giuseppe Salerno, in the 2011. Fengo is a beautiful handlettering font inspired by Sino-Japanese and traditional Chinese hieroglyphic characters. As a result the font looks authentic and very friendly. It contains a wide range of features such as initials, finals, swashes, arrows, circled numerals. Fengo can cover all kind of graphic design project from packaging, signage, branding, titles… Fengo was designed in duo by Jean-Claude and Olivier Gourvat.

Slightly off-kilter to give this rigid geometric a little personality, Contraption started as a digitization of a film typeface called Intrigue by Lettergraphics. From there, this mechanical typeface was expanded into a giant family of useful widths, weights, and obliques: from spindly thin and light weights, to chunky bold and blacks. An additional Inline style has been developed to further enhance the family dynamic.

Whenever I create a font using a Chinese brush and ink, it almost always comes out scary-looking. Sensory Overload is not like that: it is quite a neat and tidy font, even if it is a little rough around the edges. Sensory Overload is an all caps typeface and would be ideally suited for book covers, headlines, packaging and posters. Comes with an overload of diacritics.

Introducing Malrin, a chunky retro font inspired by the great "fatface" genre. The concept builds on a groovy, funky and somewhat psychedelic look. Malrin has more than 180 alternative characters and some ligatures. This typeface is a perfectly choice to create logotypes with, and will be extremely attractive when used at a large display sizes, such as for headlines, posters, or in shopfront lettering.

Here is a wood type from Tubbs & Co., about 1900. Its lack of decoration reflects the changes that were rapidly occurring in the design of printed pieces at the beginning of the 1900s. There were several similar types in metal in the first decade of the 20th century.

Designed by Ernst Lauschke in 1888 and issued by Barnhart Bros. & Spindler foundry in Chicago under the name Dormer. It was revived in 1923 by the foundry with a new name, Pekin. We have "regularized" the face for modern use, but have included the changed characters as alternates.

We used to have a composite worktop in our 'old' kitchen. It was cheap and the kitchen-guy warned us not to put any hot pans on the worktop, as it could crack due to Thermal Shock. Duh... When we installed our new kitchen, we opted for a ceramic worktop, which can handle hot pans being placed on it! Thermal Shock font is a very nice, handmade brush font. If you ever bought any brush fonts of mine, you will know that I almost always use Chinese ink and cheap brushes to create 'the look'. It is always a bit of a surprise how a Chinese ink brush font turns out: I created one the other day and it looked horrible, so it was banned.. Thermal Shock turned out to be a looker. Thermal Shock comes with one set of alternate glyphs, extensive language support (including Greek and Vietnamese) and a guarantee it won't crack in super hot designs.

The 1938 movie musical "Carefree" starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers featured the song "Change Partners" by Irving Berlin. A copy of the sheet music for this song had the title hand lettered in a wonderful tri-line design that has been recreated in the digital typeface Fancy Dancing JNL.

Ekberg is based on a sample of poster lettering by Samuel Welo. It's got a spare but stylish and rather modern look. It's a bit of a change from our usual fare, but a gap we need to fill. Ekberg features more than one version of a lot of the characters.

Authentic copy of the original, with a couple of minor changes to the caps, making them fit better. Although made for the American market by an American typefounder, we found this font in a York, England printshop when we went on a second visit to the famous DeLittle Wood Type factory.

The variation in the font affects the change in the height of the mean line - by moving the axis adjustment slider you can easily raise or lower the mean line of the font. In TT Frantz, you can find small references to the art deco aesthetics, which are expressed in significantly lowered or, conversely, heightened waist of the letters. In addition, depending on the position of the axis adjustment slider, the closedness of the aperture changes for some letters. In order to preserve the main feature of the font—the change in the height of the main line—we made lowercase characters as tall as uppercase ones, but at the same time we kept small kerns. An interesting fact is that in Cyrillic letters з с а е, the variability of the aperture follows a different scenario in comparison with their Latin sisters. When working on TT Frantz, we tried to make it so that when changing the variability, the width of the characters would not change, and the font would remain monospaced. And in order to avoid holes in the set, we made contextual alternates and several ligatures. Frantz consists of 470 glyphs, and in addition to broad language support (Latin and Cyrillic) it can offer standard and old-style figures, including their tubular versions, as well as ligatures. Tangram is the famous Chinese puzzle, perhaps one of the oldest games in the world. It consists of seven pieces called Tans obtained from a square cut up in a certain way. These seven Tans (5 different-sized triangles, a square and a parallelogram) have to be used to form the figures. The Tangram collection represents 1772 different shapes spread in 15 fonts. Atonement is a splattery, scratchy font. I made it with a steel nibbed pen, a brush and some Chinese ink. I based it on my fonts Ravenheart, Qilin and American Grunge - mostly because I really like them. Of course, all of these fonts are influenced by the work of the great Ralph Steadman - someone I greatly admire. Atonement comes with ligatures for double letter combinations and a stash of diacritics.
