Sheet Music JNL was based on lettering found on an old piece of 1930s-era sheet music being sold at a local rummage sale.

In a vintage photograph, promotional signage outside an old theater for the 1929 early sound film “The Doctor’s Secret” had lettering in a wide, bold Art Nouveau slab serif design. This was the model for Talking Picture JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Radical Brush is a rather radical font: I made it with a really wild brush and Chinese Ink. I’d probably use it for revolutionary posters, packaging design for extreme products or for R-rated movie posters.

Originally designed for American Type Founders, Goudy drew inspiration from the classical old style faces for Goudy Old Style. Round characters have a strong diagonal stress, ascenders are fairly long but descenders are very short. Goudy bold was introduced in 1920; this was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. My wife was watching ‘Memoirs Of A Geisha’ the other day, and I am going to take my son Sam to see Japan in May this year, so when I started drawing out the glyphs for this font, the name was already chosen! Tokyo Geisha is a handmade brush font. I made it with Chinese ink and one of the Chinese brushes my late father in law gave me. Tokyo Geisha is a font with speed and a certain flamboyance. Scrawny Cat is a bit of an unusual font: it was made with a brush and some China ink and has no real baseline. It is messy yet legible and in a strange way beautiful. The font is all caps, but upper and lower case differ and can be freely interchanged. Comes with a litter of diacritics and some cool end-ligatures to boot.

Tea And Oranges is a line from Leonard Cohen’s song Suzanne. “She feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China”… The song was a favourite of my brother Rizja who, sadly, recently passed away.
