QUIPO is a typeface based on my recent survey (Freeflow) on hand drawn logotypes used by American and English pop groups in the 60-70s. We thought it an interesting project and a free flow exercise to design this particular font just in capitals and well... yes it’s rather ‘bulky’. For everyone wishing for a modern serif that’s as clear and readable as a sans in restrictive digital environments, meet Portada by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione. Sans serifs are commonly used on small screens to save space and carry a modern tone. Serifs may appear fickle and unsteady, pixel grids change from one product to another, and space is at a premium. Portada now provides a serif option for these restrictive digital environments, putting that old trope to rest. The screen has met its serif match. Portada was created from and for the digital world — from e-ink or harsh grids to Retina capability — making it one of the few serifs of its kind. Portada’s text and titling styles were engineered for superlative performance, making great use of sturdy serifs, wide proportions, ample x-height, clear interior negative space, and its subservient personality. After all, words always take priority in text. It’s not all business, though. Portada’s italics contain an artefact of calligraphy in which the directionality of the instrokes and the returning curves of the outstrokes give the family a little unexpected brio. Oktah Neue is an extended version of a more limited Oktah family. Since its release in 2019, Oktah Neue received two major updates, the most recent in June 2022. The latest version of Oktah Neue is comes in 22 styles as well as one variable font. Oktah Neue inherits the best traits of Oktah—great legibility, simple geometric letters shapes, low contrast across all styles—but also introduces what Oktah fell short of: extensive language support and enhanced OpenType features. While working on Oktah Neue, we strove to create a neutral typeface that would be a workhorse for designers, typographers and other font users alike. Building onto the familiar shapes of Oktah, we tried to make them more neutral, at the same time preserving the unique character of the typeface. Certain characters remained the same, others have undergone a complete transformation, which left them better tailored for the wide implementation range of Oktah Neue. Over the past years the size of the character set in Oktah Neue was significantly expanded (currently standing at 2500+ characters). In addition to Extended Latin, new language systems (Extended Cyrillic, Greek — both Basic and Polytonic — and Hebrew) were introduced. The 1884 specimen book of San Francisco Palmer and Rey Type Foundry featured this elegant design under the name Oxford. More Printing Helpers JNL gathers another assortment of vintage printing embellishments and ornaments from the late 1800s. Within the standard twenty-six alphabet keys are pointing hands, corner pieces, border elements and decorative center and end pieces. On the lower case, certain elements have been flipped or inverted for matching effects. Some additional positions are available on the 1 through 9 keys and on the colon and semicolon. A bonus to this font: three expandable panels. the first (with decorative end caps) is attained by typing the left parenthesis for the left side, the hyphen for the center lines and the right parenthesis for the right side. The second one features ribbon ends, and the combination of the less than-equal-greater than keys creates this panel. The third design can be made by typing the left brace/vertical bar/right brace keys.

Lindau is a new take on the Jensonian Roman typeface genre. The idea was to combine the Venetian proportions with a conical shaping of the vertical parts. Lindau may be considered an alternative to fonts like Jenson, Centaur, Trump Medieval or Deepdene. Suitable for ads, stationary, branding and label design, headlines and short to medium-length text bodies. Lindau is layed out with comprehensive character support for every Euro-Latin language.

Inspired by the type elements of 17th century Dutch mapmaking, Boncaire Titling provides you with a historic yet adventurous look for your library. This addition from insigne found its muse in a map of Curacao by Dutch cartographer Gerard Van Keulen, a member of the prosperous Van Keulen family from Amsterdam, who were engaged in the manufacture of maps for seafaring. Much thanks on this project goes to The Norman B. Leventhal Map Center, housed at the Boston Public Library. Through the centers kindness, I was able to view a number of period maps in person and to meet with curators, who explained more about the Van Keulen family and the way maps of the period were created. While I studied the maps, I narrowed in on some of the original types unique idiosyncrasies. For instance, the long, exaggerated serifs, which give the forms a sense of stability, aid in the faces legibility--largely a byproduct of the engraving method that was used to create the metal plates for manufacturing these maps. In creating Boncaire Titling, I decided to capture these unique idiosyncrasies, embracing the character of the engravings rather than removing them entirely through over-refining the forms. The result is an elegant family with far more than seafaring potential. This font has a full range of six weights, from thin to black. It also includes a wide variety of OpenType alternates. All insigne fonts are fully loaded with OpenType features. Boncaire Titling is also equipped for complex professional typography, including alternates, smaller titling caps and plenty of alts, including normalized capitals and lowercase letters. There are over 30 autoreplacing ligatures, and the face includes a number of numeral sets, including fractions, old-style and lining figures with superiors and inferiors. OpenType capable applications such as Quark or the Adobe suite can take full advantage of automatically replacing ligatures and alternates. You can find these features demonstrated in the .pdf brochure. Boncaire Titling also includes the glyphs to support a wide range of languages, including Central, Eastern and Western European languages. In all, Boncaire Titling supports over 40 languages that use the extended Latin script, making the new addition a great choice for multi-lingual publications and packaging. Maps are fascinating; they come with the promise of treasure to be uncovered. Examining the map itself, too, you can find great wealth in the details so artfully condensed to that single piece of paper--details carried over into this new insigne font. ITC Photoplay is another gem from Nick Curtis. Unearthed from the 1927 edition of Samuel Welo's Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers, the design's original suggested use was for title and caption cards for silent movies. A monoweight design that bridges the gap between turn-of-the-century decorative type and Art Deco, ITC Photoplay is both casual and stylish. And, yes, the cap S" is supposed to look that that. To expand this already handy typeface's versatility, a Black weight has been added to the original design. Curtis has also created an array of alternate characters, a couple of conjunctions, and a handful of "bishop's fingers" to help make your point. ITC Photoplay is eminently suitable for all those occasions when you need to say, "Unhand that fair damsel, you dastardly cad!", and really mean it."

"País" is a contemporary and modern grotesque sans serif, inspired by the grotesques of the early 20th century, but more geometric and with a wider x-height than its referents; making it ideal for the current times. "País" comes in 2 versions, each with 9 weights, from thin to black, and matching italics, for a total of 36 fonts. The standard sans serif version is fresh, clean, and more ideally neutral. It's a perfect choice for editorial design, branding, headlines, or any other piece of graphic design. The "País Alt" version has more expressive and modern characters, with some giving it a much more playful image. It is ideal for logos, packaging, web and television use. País contains a total of 682 characters that make it possible to write in more than 200 Latin languages ​​and basic Cyrillic.

A feminine, graceful script whose thicker horizontals create a wave-like rhythm — hence the name. Seashore is loosely based on an "eccentric" (left-leaning) penmanship style of the late 19th century. Used mainly by professional "engrossers" in certificates and tributes, or by society ladies in their stationery and invitations, it sent a message of true refinement, as the style would have been only been mastered after the more common business, Spencerian, and standard ornamental styles. In fact, unusual script styles were in such demand that type foundries of the era exploded with metal-type knockoffs of increasing fanciness. Seashore includes a wide variety of swash capitals, alternate endings, and contextual ligatures, over 900 glyphs in all. Seashore is best used in short display settings — in names and addresses on formal invitations, in menus and food packaging, or fashion and beauty contexts.

This is the Viking font that I developed based on the letters in the Irk Bitig book, which is written with the brush line of the old Turkish runic alphabet, the information below. It was interesting work. Irk Bitig or Irq Bitig (Old Turkic: 𐰃𐰺𐰴 𐰋𐰃𐱅𐰃𐰏‎), known as the Book of Omens or Book of Divination in English, is a 9th-century manuscript book on divination that was discovered in the "Library Cave" of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, China, by Aurel Stein in 1907, and is now in the collection of the British Library in London, England. The book is written in Old Turkic using the Old Turkic script (also known as "Orkhon" or "Turkic runes"); it is the only known complete manuscript text written in the Old Turkic script. It is also an important source for early Turkic mythology.

Inspired by the Roman lettershapes that Asensio y Mejorada drew in 1780, Frontis is a text typeface that takes this reference just as a starting point. The delicate appearance of Neoclassical fonts becomes confidence in Frontis. The characters have a solid skeleton, and the text looks classy in the condensed half of the family. A style that shines especially at display sizes. A collection of vegetal motifs and some stylistic uppercase ligatures complete the character set. These extra shapes serve to frame and bring together all the weights and styles in the type family. The lapidary ligatures and the ornaments underline the 18th-century roots of the design. There is a connection between Frontis and those classic letters that were once engraved on stone. And yet, the design is daring enough to make it a perfect choice for contemporary use.

Livory is a serif type family of four fonts including small caps, 25 ornaments & 50 ligatures in each style. It was designed by Hannes von Döhren & Livius F. Dietzel between 2005 and 2010. Livory is influenced by the French Renaissance Antiquas from the 16th century. It has an organic look with a warm touch and was especially developed for long texts. With its melted corners and individual serifs, Livory has also a smooth and handcrafted appearance in display sizes. With almost 780 glyphs in each font, Livory is equipped for complex, professional typographic work. The OpenType fonts have an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European languages. Each font includes small caps, fractions, old style-, lining-, tabular numbers, scientific superior/inferior figures, ligatures, ornaments and a set of arrows.
