“Tropical Type” was Alf Becker’s 148th submission to “Signs of the Times” magazine (a publication for the sign trade) where for years Becker would provide a monthly lettering design to inspire other sign writers. This particular design has more of a Far East flair to it, and was redrawn digitally as Travel East JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. The letters in Bouncer are round because they all begin as a ball and then have parts of the ball cut away. Bouncer was one of the earliest typefaces from Ingrimayne Type. Lower-case letters are smaller versions of the upper-case letters. BouncerTwo, designed twenty years after the original Bouncer, continues playing with the idea of making letters by cutting out parts of a circle, but in this case the circles are interlocking. All letters are upper-case but some of those on the lower-case keys differ from those on the upper-case keys. BouncerTwo is eye-catching but not highly legible.

Pocketknife is a simple grid-based titling font on it’s surface, but it has a surprisingly prolific set of features under the surface. The most notable of these features is an abundant set of ligatures that give Pocketknife it’s unique look. There are very few kerning pairs contained within Pocketwatch, and these ligatures fill in most gaps that could be created by letters with more empty space, such as L and T, and also give a more playful look to an otherwise sharp-edged typeface. Pocketknife also contains with 2 full sets of alternate characters, one pairing with the uppercase set and one pairing with the lowercase—available as OpenType stylistic alternates or individually in the Glyphs panel. Pocketknife Regular is designed to be used on it’s own, while the Inline and Base fonts are designed to be used as a simple layered combination. The Base font is nearly identical to Regular, but contains a few specially adjusted characters that better accommodate the Inline style. The Atrament font family was originally conceived in 2003 as the corporate display type family for Suitcase Type Foundry. Its original source of inspiration is the front cover of the Devetsil - Revolucni slovn’k almanac (1922), designed by Karel Teige. The lettering on this cover is a condensed sans serif with rounded stroke terminals. Atrament is significantly broader than the model and its characters are better balanced, reflecting the evolution of semi-condensed sans serifs throughout the 1960s. The horizontal strokes of both lower and upper case are less stressed than the vertical stems. Noteworthy are the unusual tiny gaps in the apex and vertex of letters with diagonal strokes, designed to prevent ink from spreading and smudging the letter shapes. This detail is one of the main features of the font's character. The general feel of the italics closely matches the strictly vertical, parallel character of the regular cut. When converting the family to OpenType the alternate character shapes from the Alternator weights were incorporated in the regular cut, which allows the user to switch selected characters from one shape to another within the same font. A number of glyphs and accents were corrected, and all the glyphs missing in the Suitcase Standard character set were added, along with the relevant kerning pairs. The individual weights of Atrament Std thus contain accented upper and lower case, small caps, alternate glyphs for most European languages, nine types of numerals, superscript characters, caps glyph versions, and much more. Its narrow proportions make Atrament the perfect choice whenever economy of space is a must. It is however not very well suited for setting long texts. Ideal for headlines and display use, it is perfect for situations where the text needs to make a great impact in a little space.

Pseudonym is a low-contrast, subtly-flared serif available in four weights across three styles in both roman and italic. As with all of my typeface designs, I am creating fonts that I would use myself for branding purposes—typefaces with style and purpose that are intended for use in creating logos and distinctive branding typography. I wanted to create a typeface that had incisive flared serifs combined with the strength and solidity of modern grotesque faces. The result is Pseudonym, which I feel has great presence, style and legibility. Although I must admit, I had to tone down the flared serifs during the design process in order to achieve that :) I’m sure you will have great fun playing with some of the Open Type features that I’ve added to Pseudonym. There’s a full set of true small caps with their corresponding diacritics and figures. There are also a number of discretionary ligatures, these are chosen from the glyphs palette in your layout app to replace pairs of standard characters. You’ll also enjoy making use of the catchwords – these have been created to harmonise with each style, again, giving you more flexibility and scope to create some innovative typography. Finally, there are some alternate characters for /C/D/O/. In 1458, Charles VII sent the Frenchman Nicolas Jenson to learn the craft of movable type in Mainz, the city where Gutenberg was working. Jenson was supposed to return to France with his newly learned skills, but instead he traveled to Italy, as did other itinerant printers of the time. From 1468 on, he was in Venice, where he flourished as a punchcutter, printer and publisher. He was probably the first non-German printer of movable type, and he produced about 150 editions. Though his punches have vanished, his books have not, and those produced from about 1470 until his death in 1480 have served as a source of inspiration for type designers over centuries. His Roman type is often called the first true Roman." Notable in almost all Jensonian Romans is the angled crossbar on the lowercase e, which is known as the "Venetian Oldstyle e." In the 1990s, Robert Slimbach designed his contemporary interpretation, Adobe Jenson™. It was first released by Adobe in 1996, and re-released in 2000 as a full-featured OpenType font with extended language support and many typographic refinements. A remarkable tour de force, Adobe Jenson provides flexibility for a complete range of text and display composition; it has huge character sets in specially designed optical sizes for captions, text, subheads, and display. The weight range includes light, regular, semibold, and bold. Jenson did not design an italic type to accompany his roman, so Slimbach used the italic types cut by Ludovico degli Arrighi in 1524-27 as his models for the italics in Adobe Jenson. Use this family for book and magazine composition, or for display work when the design calls for a sense of graciousness and dignity.

This font is an adaptation of the cyprus syllabic script to a Latin-based font. I tried to assign as many correct letters as possible, but there were too many characters so I had to fit them. Please review the alphabet table of Cypriot syllabic to use the Font. To see all the characters, you can see all the characters and add them to the text by selecting this font from the add character section on the word page. Cypriot syllabary The Cypriot syllabary was used in Cyprus from about 1500 and 300 BC and is thought to have developed from the Linear A. The earliest known inscriptions from between 1500 and 1200 BC are in an unknown language called 'Eteo-Cypriot', or 'True Cypriot', and the script in which they are written is called Cypro-Minoan. From around 1200 BC Cyprus began to be colonised by Mycenaean, Minoan and possibly Cretan Greek settlers, and they probably adapted the existing script to write their own language - the oldest known inscription in Greek dates from the 11th century BC. Cypriot Greek had much in common with Greek dialects of Arcadia and Pamphylia, which corresponds to the province of Antalya in Turkey.

I was listening to an Opeth album called Blackwater Park. By the time I had decided that this font needed some swirls, the band was playing a song called The Drapery Falls - which has the word ‘spiraling’ in it (see poster 2) - and the name was born. Spiraling down is a surprisingly elegant font (given its roughness). I probably wouldn’t set a whole text in it, but it will really stand out as a titling font for packaging or book covers.
