This set of initial letters was inspired from French renaissance decorated letters. Unfortunately, we don't know where they were in use, or who was the punchcutter, our models were coming from a late XIXth century copy. Note: The letters I and J, U and V are not different. It is not a mistake, but it is the exact reflection of what was customary during the period.

Eckhardt Poster Brush JNL is part of a series of fonts emulating many of the various styles of hand lettering employed by sign painters and show card writers. The series is named in honor of the late Albert Eckhardt, Jr. - a talented sign writer and a good friend of the font's designer, Jeff Levine. Eckhardt Poster Italic JNL is an angled treatment of the font.

Karaoke JNL is one of the many alphabets created by the late Alf R. Becker that was showcased in Signs of the Times magazine from the 1930s through the 1950s. Thanks to Tod Swormstedt of ST Media (and who is the curator of the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio) for providing Jeff Levine the research material from which this font design was modeled.

With all of the stencil fonts created by Jeff Levine from various vintage sources, you would think everything had already been covered. Not so. Along comes Amateur Stencil JNL. Modeled from a child's stencil set from the late 1950's or early 1960's, it vaguely resembles Futura, but its irregular widths and semi-stencil appearance sets it off greatly from that classic typeface.

General Chang JNL is one of a number of fonts redrawn by Jeff Levine from the creative output of the late Alf R. Becker. Becker's alphabets were a monthly feature of Signs of the Times Magazine from the 1930s through the 1950s. Kъnig – the old Bulgar runes The writing kъnig emerged in the places of ancient Thraco-Bulgarian migrations in ante-deluvial times and developed in stages paralleling the other ancient writings. There have been many interactions and loanings between kъnig and these other writings. The root of the word kъnig (OBg: кънигъı) comes from the Old Chinese k'üen 'scroll' (ModCh: 纸卷 zhǐjuǎn) [57]. The word was loaned directly in the Bulgar language (*kün'ig > *küniv) restoring two individual Old Chuvash forms: 1. *k'ün'čьk > кўнчěк kind of ornament on a woman's garment; *k'ün'-gi / *k'ün'-üg > k'ün'iv book, codex, which is evidenced by the Hungarian könyv book and Mordvinian konov paper borrowings; 2. *k'ün'i- > *k'ün'i-gi > к'әn'iγь > кънигъı. This word has been preserved in Sumerian as kunuku (inscription) and kəniga (writing, knowledge). It is inherited from Bulgar to Slavic: книга (Bulgarian and Russian), књига (Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian), kniha (Czech and Slovak), książka (Polish), and non-Slavic: könyv (Hungarian) languages. Kъnig letters (kъni) have been known from archeological finds for more than 100 years already; however, until recently, no attempt has been made to decipher them, find their phonological value, or connect them to their natural successors: the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets. The oldest mention on the Bulgar runes is found in the mid-9th c. AD work On the Letters by the Bulgarian writer Chernorizets Hrabъr. Being already a Christian, he wrote pejoratively about the pagan Bulgars

A long lost Art Nouveau wood type from the Hamilton Museum Collection evokes the excesses of Victorian design and the equally quirky 1960s Psychedelic era revival of the Victorian type styles. Free flowing organic designs that flourished with Art Nouveau in the late 1800s were directly referenced and further distorted with with phototype in the late 1960s. This design, known as Arabesque, was produced by the Morgans & Wilcox Co. and the Wm. Page Co. as almost identical designs. Both manufacturers were acquired by Hamilton and offered briefly by Hamilton as design #618. This curious wood type defies most of the basic tenets of type design and what comes to mind when one thinks "wood type". Many characters have a lively eccentricity that were all left true to the original design. Additional characters were designed to fill out the standard range of characters found in digital fonts. This font includes over 280 characters for full unicode support of Western and Central European Latin characters.

Bitmax is the work of British designer Alan Birch, who was inspired by the look of fax transmissions. He took Helvetica medium and used controlled distortions to create this commanding, high-tech style. Bitmax is best used in large display sizes for a limited number of words.

Generisch - a german equivalent of generic - sans serif typeface has gain its own place among designers and earn such popularity due to its "simple" design. Generisch is influenced by early grotesk typefaces from early 1900's when sans was starting to get popular and used as a body type. Some old ligatures such as ch ck and ng are present in generisch (not the ct and st tho), old style numeral for better typesetting experience and more.

On one hand, this font serves as a calm sans-serif, while on the other, it stands alone as a graphic system. Enriched with various shapes and symbols, it goes beyond the mere conveyance of information through text. Pescadero Pro is named for the valley in California's rugged central coast. Early Spanish settlers called the area Pescadero (fishing place) as they observed it was a favorite fishing spot for the local natives. Designed by Steve Matteson, Pescadero is delicate and detailed for attractive documents but robust enough for serious reports and titles. The design is based heavily on calligraphic inscriptional lettering. Pescadero Pro's OpenType features include proportional figures, tabular figures, old style figures and initial swash caps.

Avelia is a high contrast typeface with multilingual applications. Slender lines and great legibility make it perfect as a display font. With curves in all the right places, it is great for editorials and other commercial use. Avelia decorative font consists of 426 characters, including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, small caps, ligatures and accents. With its condense character, Avelia is very effective and useful for uses in works such as Packaging, Logo design, Headlines and derivatives of modern Art Deco.

In most cases, motion pictures with a Western theme have their titles and credits lettered in type styles that reflect the period of the Old West. In 1966, the titles and credits for “Texas Across the River” used casual sans serif lettering more suited to the 1960s than a Western taking place in the 1800s. Nonetheless, the lettering inspired a digital font entitled Adventure Film JNL and it is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Flagstaff JNL takes the lettering from Roma Initial Caps JNL and gives them the movement of an unfurled banner. For added effect, there are flagpoles facing in either direction on the lesser and greater keys. Left and right flag ends are placed on the parenthesis keys; a wide blank flag panel is on the left brace key and a narrow blank flag panel is on the right brace key. Letters only; no punctuation or extended characters.

Historical elegance finds its place in the digital era with Reliquaire AOE. Reliquaire AOE is the historical revival and elaboration of the "Memorial" typeface created by Boston Type Foundry in January of 1881. What began as a basic character set of Capitals, lowercase, numerals, and a small handful of punctuation characters has been expanded to a full character set including unlimited fractionals, superiors & inferiors, ordinals, tabular & proportional figures, and an expanded language glyph set. History has found new life.

This typeface was created as a personal project. Inspired by places like Chattanooga and Berkley, I wanted to create a bespoke typeface family for the US Virgin Islands. I noticed that the typeface Berlin Sans was in use all over the islands, in signs, logos, even on the side of police cars. So I built this typeface from the ground up with the goal of updating an old tried-and-true font into a family with versatile potential.

In 1932, the great American type designer, Morris Fuller Benton was busy directing the creative departments of ATF and designing type. Big on his plate during that period was the development of the Bank Gothic® family among other typefaces like Raleigh Gothic. Bank Gothic and Raleigh Gothic share some very similar design traits. The most obvious difference being the ultra condensed style of Raleigh Gothic. Although the Bank Gothic family was released with a condensed, Raleigh Gothic could have originally been planned as an ultra condensed Bank Gothic but for reasons we can only speculate, the Ultra Condensed Bank became its own design. So, If you like Bank Gothic, you may also like Raleigh Gothic. Separated at birth? Fun to speculate.
