Say hello to another of my hot and trendy scripts, Hot Script! I got the inspiration for this one in the world of sign painters. My neighbourhood, and more specifically the avenue were I live, is very well known for its ''parrillas'': For those who don't know what this means, well, it may be better to live the experience rather than reading these lines. Villa Urquiza is full of restaurants with an argentinian flavour, with a ''gauchezco'' feel. Here you can taste some of the best ''asados'' in the entire world. Ok, this made me hungry, let's go back to type: These amazing venues still mantain genuine elements from the past, and try to preserve the beauty of the handcrafted. Parrillas of Buenos Aires have all their walls, windows and doors lettered with chalk or paint. I've always wanted to make a font out of that, and Hot Script is my first attempt. I believe the results are great! Hot Script follows some rules of the flat brush (see terminals, and tails especially in caps) but its contrast of thicks and thins was manually altered to make the font better for a wider range of uses. Although the sexy curves and versatility of Hot seemed to be enough, I decided to spice it a little more by creating some layers for it: Hot Script Shine Solo or Hot Script Shades Solo combined with Hot Script will give outstanding results. (Look for them combined in the posters above and dare to deny it!) Go make your project more savory! This font is Hot, hot, hot!

Let it be known that this font is named for Excalibur, King Arthur's Magic Sword. The font is derived from a note that Arthur hastily penned to his Queen, Guinevere, during a lull in one of his many battles against the Saxons. Arthur's armour was so hefty that he could not easily seat himself, and so to pen his letter to Guinevere he plunged his legendary sword Excalibur into the marshy soil on which he had been fighting and thereby steadied his writing hand with the hasp of his magical sword. This ancient and battle-weary font is based on the writing from a fragment of that original document. It has been heralded by modern scholars as "grunge" writing of great antiquity. ITALIANO DOC is a fontface inspired by the Italians Futurismo artists in the early of the 1900's. The font is completed with a Grunge Wall version, great Extra Icons and lighted futurist weigth. All the glyphs contained in the font, including OpenType variants that may only be accessible via OpenType-aware applications.

The dearJoe series of fonts came to life around the year 1999, when I created dearJoe 1, which was a first (and half-assed) attempt to convert my own handwriting into a working font. Being able to type in my own hand had always been a childhood fantasy, and even though I only partly understood the software, a working font was generated and I decided to put it on the internet for people to use in their own personal projects. Which they did: at this moment the dearJoe 1 font has been downloaded millions of times and can be found on Vietnamese riksjas, Tasmanian gyms and chocolate stores on 5th Avenue for instance. The font is not something I am particularly proud of, but it started me of in building what's now the JOEBOB graphics foundry. Inbetween creating other fonts, the dearJoe series has become a theme I revisit every once in a while, trying to create an update on how my handwriting has evolved, along with my abilities in creating fonts that mimic actual handwriting. In the last decade or so I started implementing ligatures and alternate characters, which helped a lot in coming to a result that can almost pass for actual handwriting. The 2019 dearJoe 7 font is the latest addition to this font family. All characters were scanned from handwritten notes, cherrypicking the characters and letter-combinations I liked best. They were written with a Lamy M66 B pen and only minor adjustments were made to the original scans, leaving most little flaws and rough edges as they were for a convincing ball-point on paper result. The font comes with over 150 ligatures, making sure the font has a variated and credible overall look and feel.

Cenizas is another masterpiece of rough-and-tumble script from the prolific Argentine duo of Koziupa and Paul. Although the overall 'wildness' of Cenizas is reminiscent of popular mid-twentieth-century English display scripts, Koziupa's Latin brush humor and ingenuity remain evident in the underlying structure of the design. Casual, care-free and adventurous, Cenizas can be a great choice for design applications relating to active behavior, like outdoor sports and travel. It also is enough of a rough script to be quite useful in a variety of other design contexts, such as the covers of art books or historical novels, museum literature, music sleeves and posters, or even map designs.

Brandon Text is the companion of the famous Brandon Grotesque type family. It has a higher x-height than the Grotesque version and is optimized for long texts, small sizes and screens. This special Office version of Brandon Text is especially for all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint …). It contains just the 4 basic styles which are style-linked and can be easily accessed by the “I” or “B” button in Office. The fonts are manually hinted so their appearance is also optimized for these applications.

The main idea behind creating Monly typeface was to combine playfulness with a strong letter construction backbone, so all the letters would stand tall and firm, but not to lose the playfulness. Like people, who grow up but try to save their inner child. By doing so and combining all this, the typeface achieves a great readability and appealing look. Monly font suits best for logos, headlines and small text blocks, but can also be used for big text blocks if the style suits the purpose.

The shapes of the f-holes on a violin reminded German designer André Maaßen of an italic letter "f". Maaßen used these captivating contours as the theme for his type family, Varius. The name "Varius" is an homage to the manufacturer of the violin that inspired Maaßen's project, Antonio Stradivarius, the most famous manufacturer of violins in music history. Varius has three separate styles. Varius 1 and its italic are the base style of the family, and are typefaces in the baroque serif manner. Varius 2 and its italic are slab serif egyptiennes, slightly heavier than Varius 1's more classical forms. Varius 3 and its italic are semi serif faces; their characters are serifed, but some of the serifs have been cut off. The family is rounded out with two pi faces: an ornaments font (which can be used in conjunction with the text fonts, or on its own to create beautiful borders or individual decorative elements), and a font of musical symbols and notations. Each of the six text fonts has dozens of supplemental ligatures included in their character sets. When these fonts are used in an OpenType-supporting application, such as Adobe InDesign, these ligatures automatically appear in text when the "Discretionary Ligatures" feature is activated. Additionally, the character sets include added alternate glyphs, such as a swash "m" or "n" to finish off a line of text. These can be inserted manually in applications that include glyph palettes (e.g., Adobe InDesign or Illustrator CS). All of the Varius family's letterforms appear slightly narrow, and traces of the wide-nibbed pen can be seen within their forms. Varius is particularly suited for use many applications, such as body text, newspaper text, display text, headlines, posters, books, screen design, and corporate identity. The birth of the monospaced types dates back to the past. There was a need for the creation of typesets for typewriters. The difficulty was to align the different glyphs in the same width. This led to particular problems with letters like "M" and "l"; the former seemed to be squeezed into the same width of all letters and the second one appeared way too stretched. Despite - or perhaps because of - the impression of the typewriter it is still popular with Graphic Designers. The Ingrid Mono font family with a high range of glyphs and symbols has that special appearance.

Ponderosa font is a joint work of the typeface designers K.B. Chansler, C. Crossgrove and C. Twombly, who also created Rosewood, Zebrawood and Pepperwood together. As the name suggests, it is so-called wood type. The origins of this kind of typeface can be found in the early 19th century. Called Italian or Italienne, these typefaces quickly became very popular. They are distinguished by square serifs whose width is larger than the stroke width of the characters. When the letters are set together, the heavy serifs build dark horizontal bands. The distinguishing characteristic of Ponderosa lies in its extremely fine figures between heavy serifs. The designers approached the boundaries of the impossible with this contrast. The typeface is reminiscent of the Wild West with its shootouts and heroes as well as of the 1970s with their platform shoes and wild hair-dos. When used carefully in headlines, Ponderosa font will surely attract attention.

The part of the large project on revival and further development (by drawing many additional glyphs) of the 20th century’s typewriters’ fonts. And especially the most famous, versatile and beautiful typewriter: IBM Selectric’s golfball fonts, lost for the civilization for many decades after ‘80s, not being created since then in digital vector form. This new sub-project started in July 2018 for the restoration of the most beautiful classical typefaces, used during the 20th century on the extremely rare now IBM Selectric Composer typewriters / desktop publishing systems. Together with Nick Hamze and the Right Reverend Theodore Munk, the collectors of old typewriters. IBM showed the perfect taste by developing these best historical book typefaces of the human civilization for typewriters. So people could type then using both the real book faces, and the famous classical ones.

The original brief for Vox was a extensive monoline typeface that can be both precise and friendly, yet contain enough choice of seamlessly interchangeable variants for the user to be able to completely transform the personality of the typeface depending on the application. This family was inspired by the pure Jenson set of fonts used in Venice to print De preparatio evangelica in the year 1470. The present font contains all of the specific latin abbreviations and ligatures used in the original. Added are the accented characters and a few others not in use in this early period of printing, also small caps, these, contained in a separate file in the Mac TT version. This font supports strong enlargements as easily than small size remaining very smart, elegant and fine. Decorated letters like 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian 1584 Rinceau or other fonts from GLC Foundry, can be used with this family without anachronism. If Italic style is required, we recommend the use of 1557 Italique.

Made in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland), Hyper Schlag is born while the designer drinks a beer with friends. One of his fellow beverage partner wears a sweatshirt written in embroidery. The text is quite clumsy, at least this is what he saw. This is how the most spontaneous font ever designed by Bisou is born. Hyper Schlag is thought from ground up to give a strong feeling of friendliness. Clumsy, naive, playful, this handwriting font is best suitable slogans of sweet revolution. Linotype Franosch™ is a three weight display typeface designed by artist/graphic designer Max Franosch. Around the time of making the initial sketches, Franosch was looking a lot at Arabic newspaper and magazine headlines. He was drawn to their bold and very graphic" type. A common feature was the "floating" dots which added a rhythmic quality to the text. This came to influence the use of dots in Linotype Franosch™. Apart from this influence, Linotype Franosch also has a very clean and futuristic feel to it, due mainly to the highly geometric nature of the characters and the uniform stroke weight. More about the usability of this typeface can be seen at the Font of the Week of Linotype Franosch. Linotype Franosch is perfect for party flyers, headlines, and internet banner ads. All three faces in the Linotype Franosch family are part of the Take Type 4 collection from Linotype."

Grace was designed by Elisabeth Megnet and appeared with Linotype in 1992. The font is a part of the package Calligraphy for Print, which also contains Ruling Script and Wiesbaden Swing. Calligraphy for Print 2 completes the set. These packages offer modern calligraphy fonts particularly well-suited to use in posters, magazines and advertisements. The basic style of Grace is based on the Gothic miniscule of the 13th century. It represents a modern philosophy held by Andre Guertler, Professor of Typography in Basel with whom Megnet once studied. With this philosophy, calligraphy is not to be seen as a decorative art, and fonts created according to this tenet have far fewer ornamental strokes. They are eccentric, drawn out and almost bulky. Like Gothic forms, one of the predecessors of this font, Grace gives vertical lines a particular emphasis. This font is not meant for long texts but makes a distinctive impression in shorter texts or headlines.

It all began with an ellipse. Like an artist who goes from a pictorical logic to a more abstract one, in Elipses geometry is stripped of any distractive or ornamental detail. The font is naked and it shows that it does not need complex shapes or decisions in order to be very attractive. The font is a compendium of ellipses and stems, with a didone 'pensiero'. It also gets some inspiration from the art-deco letters and architecture, due to obvious reasons. Geometry at its best. Elipses will be useful for magazines, books, ads, or any piece of design that needs elegant letters. Note about the styles The styles named "Alt" (from Alternative) have their swashes with less loops. Use them if you are more into naked geometry. Lucida Sans Typewriter adapts the humanized look of Lucida Sans to the fixed pitch of typewriter fonts, in which all letters have the same set width. The vertical proportions, strong stem weights, and crisp details of Lucida Sans are continued in the Lucida Sans Typewriter font family. The result is a strong, clear, fixed-pitch design that can be used wherever a functional, legible monospaced font is needed, in typewritten correspondence, memos, and telefaxes, in commercial forms, invoices, and packing lists, in programming and data processing applications, and in line printer emulations and terminal emulations. The Rally Symbols 2D font family has been developed for integrated graphical motor racing design. First of all that includes rally, rally raid, cross-country rally and hill climb. When work started on the design of Gelica, there wasn't the same glut of retro-ish soft serifs there is today, and if I'd managed to complete it quicker, it might have been more trendsetter than bandwagon jumper, but that's the way it goes sometimes! I still think it's useful and unique enough to be a worthwhile addition to your typographic arsenal. Although obviously influenced by Cooper, it actually owes more to the lesser known Goudy Heavyface and Ludlow Black, particularly in the concave serifs. I wanted the family to be friendly and approachable, but not overly cutesy, and usability was always the prime concern. A nice weight range with matching italics was a must, along with useful OpenType features, and various figure styles. This is a display family first and foremost, but is also comfortable at smaller sizes for longer copy, and so works well in a supporting role to a more exuberant titling font.

Historical typography makes a comeback. A revival of one of the most popular of a number of rugged typefaces used around the turn of the century, Croft revives the creation of Lewis Buddy III, known as "Roycroft" in 1912 ATF catalogs. It also, according to ATF, was designed "partly" by Morris Benton, around 1898. The original typeface might be considered an early form of grunge fonts. This typestyle maintains historical flavor, while also being relevant today. It has been expanded to have more discretionary ligatures and numerals sets for versatility, and maintains the original stylistic alternates and standard ligatures.
