Etelka was designed for purposes of corporate identities, branding, product package design and outside lettering. It works anywhere an extremely legible typeface is needed. Package and label design often requires a wide choice of weights and widths: light and narrowed fonts to fit huge amount of mandatory informations onto a small box, or to squeeze text lines around a bottle, fat and wide styles to emphasize information on a poster or vehicle. The regular styles will serve well for business card, small texts and for your website. Etelka’s design idea is wide, open rounded square. Some details are extremely minimized: lower-case “a, n” or “u” lack their typical spur. The typeface has a distinctive industrial expression with all diagonals slightly softened, and her overall strict mono-linear principle is exceptionally broken only for fine optical adjustments in joints. Cyrillic and Greek scripts are present for international business, as well as rich latin diacritics. Etelka is actually very well suited for all kinds of visual communication, especially orientation systems in modern architecture. The first drawing of the font, which was later named “Etelka”, was submitted in 2004 for the Czech Television identity competition and was rejected by the jury. We later concluded that the design was worth extending to the current superfamily of 42 fonts. It is a reliable typeface for corporate identities and websites.

The hand lettered credits from the 1942 British film comedy “The Goose Steps Out” became the model for Goose Creek JNL, a simple sans serif design available in both regular and oblique versions. According to the Internet Movie Database (imdb), “A bumbling teacher turns out to be the double of a German general. He is flown into Germany to impersonate the general and cause chaos and hilarity in a Hitler Youth college.” The title is a parody of the “goosestep” style of marching by German soldiers during World War II. As a variant on the movie’s title, the font was named for Goose Creek, South Carolina – a charming community just northeast of historic Charleston.

Martin, a condensed semi-serif with rounded edges and friendly serifs, shows its charme best in short, pointed sentences, in headlines set in about 20 to 36 p. The playing with serifs in a condensed, very characteristic type design is attractive and the technical skill is convincing. More styles are planned. The idea was to try to apply a given design criteria (also see Volker Schnebel's Marita and Manuel fonts) to every single character. In other words, start with a character and develop all of the others from it. This is quite easy for some characters but extremely difficult for others. This process generates creativity and the characters move away from the initial constructed sketch. Together in a typeface, the individual characters are now all of a piece and character.

The typeface was baptized as "Caldense" in order to honor the city of Caldas da Rainha, a small city in Portugal, the typography's birth place. It has three weights, Regular, Demi Bold and Bold and it is a sans serif and grotesque. Each character was based on a grid and was built in modules, having round edges and straight finishes. The font can be used in titles and normal text while being easy to read.

French Calligraphic JNL is actually more semi-calligraphic in nature. Its name takes a descriptive liberty because of the sharp, angled pen strokes of the original hand lettered example found in the 1930s publication "100 Alphabets Publicitaires" by M. Moullet. The design is available in both regular and oblique versions.

British Stencil JNL was sketched from images of a vintage stencil set made by Reese and Sons of England that was being sold on ebay. In truth, this is a semi-stencil, as some of the characters are solid; lacking the breaks in the letter shapes so typical of stencil alphabets.

Cross Stitch Regal is based on upper case characters 25 stitches tall and contains upper case characters A-Z, ampersand, exclamation and question marks, comma, period, colon, and semi-colon.

Mi negra is a funny and hilarious typography designed especially for children, thought and created by Isabel de Gregorio. It could be described as an original combination between a semi-handwright and semi sans-serif font. Thanks to its structure and nice endings "Mi Negra" is recommended for composing short texts (logotypes, packing, posters, etc.). It may similarly be used for illustrations and comics, as well as in printing press works for children from 6 to 13 years old for instance. Mi Negra has been conceived to be a useful support in all kinds of illustrations works (please note that Isabel, the type designer, considers herself primarily an illustrator). The font designer of Mi Negra tells that every time she needed to provide some text data (i.e. in children infographies) and needed to make them more understandable and suitable for children, she used this typography. The former idea was than to create a font who could be a second option to comic sans, but as the project started to reveal its forms, it was clear that it was revealing another connotation and its own character. In this way, Mi Negra went on modifying its forms and the more it developed, the more it was showing its new characteristics and concepts. The family is composed of three weighs: Light, regular and black. It provides also interesting functional ligatures. It also includes a dingbat with nice doggies. Kwersity is a boxy, geometric, slab-serifed typeface with strokes of uniform weight. Its circular elements are almost rectangular. The narrower style has a high x-height. Both the narrower and wider variants come in three weights, regular, semi-bold, and bold. (In its original, pre-2020 form, what is now semi-bold was bold. What is now bold is new as of 2020.) Josef Týfa first published the Academia typeface in 1967-68. It was the winning design from competition aimed at new typeface for scientific texts, announced by Grafotechna. It was cut and cast in metal in 1968 in 8 and 10 point sizes of plain, italic and semi-bold designs. In 2003 Josef Týfa with František Štorm began to work on its digital version. During 2004 Týfa approved certain differences from the original drawings in order to bring more original and timeless feeling to this successful typeface. Vertical stem outlines are no more straight, but softly slendered in the middle, italics were quietened, uppercase proportions brought closer to antique principle. Light and Black designs served (as usual) as starting points for interpolation of remainig weights. The new name Academica distinguishes the present digital transcription from the original idea. It comprises Týfa’s rational concept for scientific application with versatility to other genres of literature.

Zirkle is a monoline font in which the upper-case letters were designed from circles or bits of circles, with interior straight lines. It was the first font I designed in Fontographer when Fontographer was still in version 2 and the most advanced Macintosh was the Macintosh II. I have heard from people who like it, but it was designed not to meet some need but to play with the geometry of circle-based letters. ZirkStressed is a “squared” version that was the result of playing with a font distortion program, which in this case produced a result that seemed interesting.

RundigPencil has a semi-informal but very neat and rigidly upright handwritten look. It comes in three weights, each with italics. The calligraphic typeface Rundigsburg is based on similar letter shapes.
