Singolare is a contemporary geometric Sans Serif with angular terminals and a great x height. Its main feature is the style difference between the lighter and heavier weights. The more weight it gains, the higher its singularity. With its weights, styles and layers variety, it's perfect for display use and short texts that require a visual impact. Singolare is composed by five weights, from Ultralight to Black. Krimhilde was originally designed by Albert Auspurg and released in 1933 with the type foundry Ludwig & Mayer. The design mixes elements of German blackletter typefaces and geometric sans-serif designs, which became popular in the 1920s in the movement known as New Typography. The FDI version of Krimhilde offers both original styles (regular and bold) as “version A” with a full Latin 1 character set. “Version B” has alternative shapes for some letters to make the design more legible for people who are not familiar with the German blackletter shapes. In addition, there are optional display styles available (outline, shadow and fill), which can be used separately or together to create a chromatic layout.

Aeronic is a work of love. I stumbled upon a fantastic Japanese poster for Nikke Coat by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907 - 1981). Gihachiro Okuyama (also: Okayama) was a very prolific Japanese print artist who started his career making woodblock prints, but later moved on to posters and advertisements. I tried to recreate the hand lettering in the original 1937 Nikke Coat poster, but since I had to work with a few glyphs only, I designed the remaining ones myself. The outline of Aeronic is rather thin, with thicker bits in some glyphs. It is quite rough in places, but it all adds to its unique look. Aeronic comes with a bonanza of diacritics.

When Social Gothic first launched in 2007 as a basic single font, it became an instant branding and advertising favourite. It was used widely by a few major fashion outlets and department stores, then soared to new heights of exposure when it became the billboard-cause standard face for a few charity outfits and political organizations throughout Canada’s major urban centres. Social Gothic is a unicase font that combines standard sans serif elements with some distinct “wooden” shapes and oval lowercase components, to make for a totality that achieves a handmade look while maintaining a clean, legible, understated and easy message delivery. It is a gothic with quite a few humanist leanings, something seldom found in the sans serif genre. This family was inspired by a Type Battle over at Typophile: How would you design a font metrically compatible with Helvetica, but better than Arial? Working with preset letter widths was an interesting constraint, both a relief and a limitation at the same time. I have done all the 4 basic weights, and the skewed obliques (done to a slightly less steep 10 degrees angle as opposed to the originals 12) has been optically adjusted. The letters have been designed quite close to the german/swiss grotesk tradition, but by using super-elliptical rounds, rounded dots and slightly curved outer diagonals the end result is a friendly looking font family that still looks... familiar. Madelican is a beautiful combination of modern and classical calligraphy, inspired by the handwriting of Italian women and ancient manuscripts. I think calligraphy has an advantage for the alternate characters, Madelican has tons of possibilities for just one letter. My exploration of this fonts was not as easy as in my imagination, it took several trial and errors for the perfect balance of the style. Madelican is very suitable for weddings, book covers, greeting cards, logos, branding, business cards and certificates, even for any design work that requires a classic, formal or luxurious touch. Almost all letters have more alternate than others, it is fine because the limitations of the shape of the letters. It must be readable and legible. Every letter that I've chose are only the best on it and fit with the character style. Multi-lingual support and up to 16 stylistic alternates. In a vintage photograph, promotional signage outside an old theater for the 1929 early sound film “The Doctor’s Secret” had lettering in a wide, bold Art Nouveau slab serif design. This was the model for Talking Picture JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
