Iturritxu (a small spring or fountain in the Basque language) is the basic style, one letterform per character, using highly readable glyphs suited to text applications. Houschka Alt Pro is a carbon copy of the Houschka Pro family with one key difference: the rounded signature glyphs A & W on the default positions swap places with their straight alternates. Houschka was named after Georg Houschka, a sadly defunct confectioner’s shop in Salzburg, Austria, which had a wonderful 1930s frontage and distinctively rounded letterforms in the sign above the door. The regular style of this family was inspired from the typeface used in Nuremberg, Germany, by Johannes Petreius in 1543 to print the famous “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium,” the well-known mathematical and astronomical essay by Nicolaus Copernicus. Petreius was also using an original italic style, as he did for the “De Sculptura” by Gaurico Pomponio, in 1542. Unfortunately, nobody seems to know who was the punchcutter of this Jenson-style font. Also included is a title file, containing initials (without diacritics) and small caps (with diacritics). In our three styles (Regular & Italic + Titling), font faces, kerning and spacing are as closely as possible identical to the original. Georges Peignot designed the font Nicolas Cochin based on copper engravings of the 18th century and Charles Malin cut the typeface in 1912 for the Paris foundry Deberny & Peignot. The font is named after the French engraver Charles Nicolas Cochin (1715-1790) although its style had little to do with that of the copper artist.
