After creating the all-caps version of Supper Club JNL, a conversation between Jeff Levine and fellow font designer Ray Larabie brought forth the idea that one of Ray's freeware fonts had a lower case that would perfectly fit Jeff's design. With Ray's permission, Jeff adapted the lower case to his capital letters and the final version of Supper Club was born. Two separate ideas become one stylish Art Deco type design.

The Swiss typewriters were famous for their unique precision. As complex digitalizations and macro shots were a start for the inspiration and studies, each character has been carefully re-crafted from the ultra high def scans of the printouts made on a special bleed-proof paper. Today’s characters such as @, euro sign and most of accents have been crafted according the original alphabet design. The idea was to digitize and keep a saving of the original typewriter including all its functions (e.g. underlining key) . It’s surprisingly very legible at small sizes. Thanks to an x-height tighter and more spaced, a glyph design less detailed and more neutral/simple than other fonts found on american or italian typewriters. The final artwork can be set at very large sizes due to the highly detailed glyph design. Swissa Piccola Regular is loaded with more than 150 glyphs created with the typewriter to avoid letter repetition in a word. This OpenType feature can be accessed through the 'discretionary ligatures' option. Plus it comes with two stylistic sets : one with an original underlining feature, another with a slashed-x feature. In which all characters are unique and also have been originally typed with the typewriter. It contains more 600 glyphs in total. The two features are separated in another two fonts (Swissa Piccola Slashed x and Underlined) in case a non OT-savvy app is used. If you wish to obtain exactly the same prints as the original Swissa Piccola typewriter, you should set your font at 11.3 pt and 19.5 pt of line spacing. The Swissa Piccola font was originally offered in a dedicated limited edition packaging.

Rahere, founder of St Barts in London The typeface is named after Rahere, a 12th-century Anglo-Norman priest, who founded the Priory of the Hospital of St Bartholomew, London in 1123. In 2007 I was successfully treated at Barts for relapsed testicular cancer so I’m indebted to all the doctors, nurses and support staff who work there. A special shout out to Orchid Cancer – a UK charity that helps men affected by cancer – who funded the research for my treatment.

In July 2014, using my light pen, I completed the work in designing the font - Nizar, which was named in honor of the great poet Nizar Qabbani who inspired millions through poetry and prose. The font depends mainly on the characteristics of the traditional Ruq'ah handwriting, but the spirit of the letters tend to embrace the distinguished style that we knew of the poet in his hand-written poetry books. Due to the fact that I could not find all the alphabets in the great poet's handwriting, I adopted the method of measurement and prediction for structure of the missing letters, Which resulted in a new style of the Ruq'ah Typeface; a closer look at the font highlights the common characteristics of all the usual Ruq'ah writings, which are the height of the character "Alef" and spaces and formation on the line, the contextual replacement and convergence of when a letter meets another, closed and open letters, letters coming down from the baseline, and the forms of dots. That been said, hidden touches in the details of Nizar Typeface can be observed, the characters are all dependent on one pen stroke thickness, and are attracted to the baseline as much as possible when vertically and horizontally formed, and the distance between words and lines grows leading to creating both an aesthetic and typographical touch distinguishing this font from the conventional Ruq'ah – which can be found in some of my previous Ruq'ah projects. It is important to mention that after the completion of the Arabic characters and punctuation, I began drawing the Latin alphabets, punctuation and necessary symbols. I cannot fail to also note that the Arabic characters include the Persian, and the Urdu characters. This Typeface is fit to be used in lengthy texts, especially in literary works, artistic print, and diverse visual display, giving the design striking features, modernity and distinction. Petite Fleur is a combination of engraved, flowery embellishments and the Capitals of my redesigned Royal Romain (Romain du Roi), the exclusive font of King Louis XIV. It is best used as initials only, but can be mixed with Royal Romain. On the keys for ≥ and ≤ I designed two filler embellishments and the ciphers 0-9 are embellished as well. Enjoy! The silent film »The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari« (1920) is undoubtedly one of the breathtaking milestones within the German Expressionist Movement, a time of extraordinarily creative works of art as a reaction to a world in rapid change. The original intertitles of Caligari were worked out by the set designers (and painters) Walter Reimann, Walter Röhrig, and Hermann Warm, using a unique expressionistic language of form for dramatic and iconic lettering. When in 2010 KOMA AMOK’s Joerg Ewald Meißner and Gerd Sebastian Jakob were commissioned by the Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt and publisher Hatje Cantz to design the catalog for the exhibition »The Total Artwork in Expressionism«—showing works of art, architecture, film, literature, theater, and dance—it was soon perfectly clear that a new typeface, inspired by the Caligari intertitles, should speak for all the expressionistic arts. An intense process of research and analysis began. The original letters of the Caligari intertitles were individuals on their own. Furthermore, each of the three title designers had added his specific approach to the basic Caligari type style. From hundreds of different As to Zs a choice had to be made, which should be THE characteristic Caligari letter for a digital typesetting font. Finally the chosen letters were cut and drawn again, missing letters were added according to the formal priniciples, all-in-all 1000 glyphs were digitised to complete a usefull OpenType font ready for use. When in the autumn of 2010 the exhibition started successfully with great media interest, the posters all over Darmstadt announced »You must become Caligari!« – set in the brandnew typeface. The font Caligari Pro offers alternative forms for every letter and a whole bunch of ligatures, thus creating an expressive, individual image of headlines and text. By using included Stylistic Alternates the image will get even more vivid. Caligari comes with a complete set of expressionist ornaments and true old style figures—thus the heyday of the Expressionist Movement and the era of the silent films can be revived typographically by the means of today: »Express Yourself!«.

Samuel Welo was a sign painter who had published in the 1920s and again in 1960 his “Studio Handbook – Letter and Design for Artists and Advertisers”, prolifically hand lettering all of the type style examples within the pages of the publication. In 1930 Welo also published “Lettering - Practical and Foreign”. From this book comes a thick-and-thin hand lettered Art Deco alphabet – now available digitally as Sightseeing Tour JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Brody’s fonts borrow elements from both Art Deco and non-Western styles. His designs received international recognition for their innovative, computer-oriented style, reaching almost cult status. Southside Fizz is a cocktail (made with gin, lime, mint and soda). Southside Fizz font was based on a single word in a 1930’s advertisement and my Palembang font. I did not have that many glyphs to work with, so I made most of them up. Southside Fizz became a very elegant all caps Art Deco font, quite useful for wedding invitations, books and posters. It comes with a roaring amount of diacritics as well.
