The Vidal is a display typeface designed in 2016 by Elena Albertoni. It comes in three styles: Regular, Bold and Black. This wide sans-serif with low contrast is inspired by French and British Art Deco lettering and it is suitable for use in medium to large sizes, where it offers good legibility and all its friskiness. The attitude of Vidal when set in all caps derives from the models that inspired the design: mainly capital-only lettering pieces; the essential addition of lowercase letters distinguishes Vidal from similar revivals and makes it a great modern choice.

Compass Next is a third edition of Compass TRF designed in 2002. The first time Compass TRF has been conceived was as a “geometric” Didone – all letters literally were drawn with a ruler and a compass. Second edition (2009) got additional styles – Flourish Initials and Small Caps. This time, the objective was to bring overall extreme geometrical expression closer to traditional letterform style of its “modern style” typeface category (Didone). Atrium, designed by Alex Jacque, is a strong, linear, geometric sans-serif display typeface based off century-old pen art by W.E. Dennis. CushingTwo is the 6-font family designed for Fontographer: Practical Font Design for Graphic Designers: Regular, Oblique, Demi, DemiOblique, Bold, and BoldOblique. The two Demi variants will be listed separately in InDesign and the Creative Suite to keep things compatible with Office and such. The inspiration was a scan of the old Cushing No. 2 font in Felici's article on CreativePro about 100 year oldtype. It's a fun, open, large OpenType font of 370 characters with oldstyle figures, small caps, and small cap figures. It needs polishing, but it's good looking.

The French publication “La Lettre Dans le Decor et La Publicite Modernes” (“The Letter in the Modern Décor and Advertising”) was a 24-page booklet showcasing the then-current trends of the time (circa late 1930s-early 1940s). On one page was found a squared, extra bold sans serif alphabet set with strong Art Nouveau influences, yet it was ahead of its time by taking on the look and feel of 1980s techno typography. They say “everything old is new again”, and Nouveau Techno JNL is now available digitally in both regular and oblique versions.

This typeface was designed for editorial purposes (text sizes), where the letterforms contain short serifs (more economical). Earlier this year I visited a bakery in Newport Beach, CA and fell in love with the organic design and typography of the place. Hand-drawn menus, table cards, chalkboards, and wall quotes surrounded the charming spot. It inspired me to create a new font family based on the combination of hand drawn fonts.
