Decorative, Display, Headline, Serif, 1920s, Hand Lettered, Engraved, Incised, Bold, Extra Bold, Retro, Vintage, Nostalgic An ad in the July 27, 1928 issue of The Film Daily for FBO Pictures was an encouragement to all theaters to accept the emergence of 'talking pictures' and "Don't be Panicked by Sound". The headline text was hand lettered in an extra bold serif type face with engraved [incised] lines. The lettering has been redrawn as the digital type face Movie Usher JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The inspiration for this typeface family came from my childhood experiences at West Monkton, amidst an historic part of the South West of England. Studies of the original incised capitals of the Trajan column in Rome were analysed and polished for this modern version. The lower case letterforms and numerals were then created in sympathy, taking their proportions from the incised letters of local gravestones. Its name honours not only the area where the original alphabet was conceived and drawn, but also the people responsible for fostering my initial interest in letters.

MYTHICA is a slightly condensed roman with spur serifs, derived from incised lettering on early twentieth century memorial stones and monuments. The typeface is available in 3 weights each with a complimentary italic.

Alfrere Banner is a 1950s inspired masthead typeface, designed to complement our ‘Alfrere Sans’ typeface family. These two Banner faces, offered in regular and incised forms, emphasise horizontal lines and have a distinct ’streamline-era’ feel to them.

A softer, streamlined and more elegant development of the ideas originally explored in Jude. Incised letterforms are now rounder and more intuitive, less geometric. Union is a modern classic‚ typeface, avoiding quirky idiosyncrasies to produce a useable and highly contemporary type.

Ability is a family of stylish and contemporary handwriting fonts that combine the vigor of hand-drawn fonts such as Affable with the elegance of fonts such as Blythe. What is unusual about Ability is that it enables a word to be formed from a group of letters in a variety of ways: not only the conventional linking of letters as in a cursive script or the placing of letters close to each other on a common baseline, but it uses the overlapping of the swashes and swirls that contribute to the individuality of the characters to integrate the letters into a single word. Algreve is the progenitor of our recent set of WoodType inspired typefaces. It’s more sophisticated, perhaps, and less rustic than one of the others. It’s incised or hand-tooled style lends a little sophistication and a little lightness. Ideal for period poster work…

Silver Dagger is a contemporary script-inspired font that combines the elegance of graceful handwriting with clean, modern, incisive calligraphy. It will enhance the appearance of advertisements, invitations, headlines and posters. It contains a full character set and is professionally letter-spaced and kerned.

Inspired by the hand lettering found on a 1930s travel poster promoting visits to India, this bold sans serif Art Deco type design feature incised lines and a stylized A,E,F and S. World Travel JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Simple, angular and incised, Jude mixes the geometric precision of the computer with expressive and intuitive letterforms. The typeface avoids classical references in construction and proportions to produce a bold, modern serif typeface for text and display. The italic is a sharp edged version of calligraphic letterforms.
