Some letters are fat blocks, others have stars, stripes or dots, some are funny and funky while others are plain weird - but all in all, they leave a really nice confusing effect when used. Buttered Toast is something a lot of people enjoy every day; when I was working on this font I was hoping to create something similar: an uncomplicated font enjoyed by many. The resulting typeface is exactly what is promised on the package: Buttered Toast is unobtrusive, yet quite refined. It may even be taken for granted, but I sure hope it will be used and enjoyed by many. Buttered Toast comes with a generous helping of diacritics.

At the end of the 1931 gangster film “The Public Enemy” a hand lettered card offers up an afterword on the demise of Tom Powers (James Cagney’s character in the film) and how a “public enemy” is neither a man nor a character but a problem society must deal with. The text is in an Art-Deco influenced sans serif, and has been digitally recreated as Afterword JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

At first glance, Else may seem to be similar to many of the Century typefaces, with its prominent figures and sturdy alphabet. Both versions uses contextual alternates, which in this case means that there is 3 different versions of all lowercase letters - and these automatically cycles as you type!
