The revival of this 1932 classic design by W. Schwerdtner for the Stempel Foundry in Germany brings back the fashion and culture of those bygone days. Wedge-shaped vertical strokes are thicker at the top than at the bottom while serifs are somewhat elongated, thin, and pointy. Here is an excellent choice for large display settings where capturing the spirit of the 1920s and 30s is important. Metropolis SG is also available in the OpenType Std format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version. Advanced features currently work in Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress 7. Candida roman was designed by Jakob Erbar and appeared after his death with the typeface foundry Ludwig & Mayer in Frankfurt am Main in 1936. Due to the original designer’s death, the italic was designed by Walter Höhnisch shortly thereafter. In 1945 the roman was reworked, the breadth of the figures was reduced and the strokes made heavier. The bold weight followed in 1951. Later the typeface was expanded with further weights, which have for the most part fallen out of use. Three weights can still be found in catalogues, available as early as 1937 for the Linotype machine. Candida is a modest text font which retains its legibility even in smaller point sizes.

Spirits design was initially based on Hermann Ihlenburg's Schoeffer Old Style from the 1912 ATF catalog. Soft is the closest version to the printed original typeface. Neutral, with more formal serifs, is ideal for editorial design, for example newspaper headlines. Sharp, more contemporary, is the best choice for meeting today's design needs. Condensed proportions and large x-height, features found in the original font, make Spirits ideally suited for headlines and branding design. As you would expect from Latinotype, this font comes with a standard character set that supports over 200 languages. Each version includes its own alternates and comes in 4 weights, ranging from Light to Black, resulting in a total of 12 font styles.

Sztos (2018-2022) is a remix of one of the most famous grotesques used in Poland – Baccarat (published by Jan Idźkowski i S-ka in 1922). My version loosely refers to the original. On the one hand, I wanted to modernize the drawing and proportions, on the other hand, I did’t want to lose the historical flavour and details in which you can still feel traditional printing. In addition to the fairly wide version of the normal style, there is also a narrow version. Thanks to this contrast, Sztos gives the possibility of expressive combinations of different styles. Elegant, classic yet contemporary. Salient is a updated interpretation of the Didot school of type design, typified by Giambattista Bodoni in Italy and the “modern” French styles of high-contrast fonts cut by Fermin Didot in Paris the early 19th century. Salient is not a historical revival but a contemporary reworking, using fewer pen-derived forms especially in the lower case. This gives it a cleaner edge. Instead of ball serifs, it uses lightly flicked stroke terminals. It is suitable for both text and headline, and the wide range of weights make it a versatile choice for books, magazines, reports, posers, packaging and corporate identities.
