A clean and balanced humanist grotesque. Like many an alchemical process, this font had to be designed and redesigned from the ground up many times. Each time it blew up in the designer's face until finally the conditions and process were in perfect alignment and this new font was born.

Charles Beeler Jr. designed this in 1895 for Mackellar, Smiths and Jordan, which was part of the American Type Founders combine. The font had a short life because five years later ATF began an "off with the old, on with the new" program, and this font was an early victim.

The 1938 sheet music for "(The Dwarves Marching Song) Heigh-Ho" from Walt Disney's "Snow White" had the part of the title in parenthesis hand lettered with a round nib ink pen. This lettering became the inspiration for Pen Work JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The opening title from the 1943 Abbott and Costello comedy ”It Ain't Hay” shows a park bench with the words “Universal Presents” stenciled on it in a chamfered sans serif style. This served as the design model for Grounds Crew Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sheet music for the song "My Ideal" (from the 1930 Paramount picture "Playboy of Paris" starring Maurice Chevalier) had the name of the movie hand lettered in an Art Deco, Broadway-influenced type design. This became the inspiration for Parisian Playboy JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Kantor's modular stroke and humanist axis defines it as an old-style 15th century Venetian serif typeface. At the same time, the lowercase Kantor alphabet is relatively compressed and has the vertical stems of a textura blackletter. However, Kantor has distinct, penformed shapes and has also kept all the organic irregularities of traditional handwriting (or punch-cutting, as it were). Mr Palker Dadson — has appeared in a natural evolution of the Palker-Palkerson family. Its closest relative - burly slab serif Mr Palker Dad. This generation is more stout than the previous one. One may even be brave enough to use them for composing small texts. Notably Mr Parker Dad has become one of the frequently sold typefaces on the «Peterburg. The city speaks» map as it is highly readable while remaining extremely tight. Mr Parker Dadson has all the features of P&P’s family.

Sans Atwic Modern is a clean simple sans serif typeface. It has a universal and neutral look thanks to repeated vertically cut end strokes and thanks to letters that have similar width. Cartographer by Hipopotam Studio is a hand drawn serif typeface designed for our book Maps. Drawn with a 0.1 mm tip pen in a very small scale. It has only uppercase characters but each has alternate glyphs. Stripated is an informal funky font mainly for distinctive headlines and posters, or similar display work. There's still all the features you'd expect like Class Kerning and accented characters, ligatures for ffi, ffl and so on, and a few other extras. The four versions are set up as follows: Plain has all the letters and black stripes in the normal vertical alignment; Jumbled One has the lower case letters all jiggled about but the boxes still square and vertical; Jumbled Two has ALL letters, numbers, and virtually all punctuation jumbled up; and Wild has all that and the black boxes going slightly off square as well. There's 3 different Space characters and a few other character variations in Stylistic Alternates (fuller details in the zip).

Ellington was designed by jazz lover, Michael Harvey for Monotype in 1990, and named after the great band leader, Duke Ellington. From experience gained carving letters in stone and drawing them for book jacket designs, Michael Harvey has created a condensed typeface combining the clear-cut sparkle of a modern face with some of the lively features of the broad-edged pen. Ellington has a fresh elegance that is particularly effective in display, while its compressed forms will prove economical in text settings. If you want to write something sincere and genuine but not too formal then this is the font for you. It is based on real handwriting, not some artificial calligraphy made to be either too haphazard or spiky or have loads of elegant flourishes but an ordinary person's writing, and designed to look as natural and as close to the original lettering as possible. Like any person's writing it is individual and distinctive, but so easy going on the eye those differences sit comfortably with you. It is friendly and open with easy to read glyphs both as lowercase and uppercase. The letters are relatively wide with clearly shaped distinct outlines. This font may be ideal for projects where you expect a wide readership with different reading abilities from young to old. When you are using this font a slightly bigger point size usually gives a better result so for a standard letter or similar you should size up to 15 points or more. Maree has been individually crafted to the smallest detail. To create a realistic handwriting font that looks relatively simple but works in a wide variety of languages requires a complexity and attention to detail most fonts will never require. This font in any ordinary business environment would never have been made, the effort required to make it too great, the length of time too long. There have been no shortcuts in this font, no automatic scanning or tracing, no automatic generation, no class kerning. Not only is each glyph individual but the width of letters, the height, the accents and the positions of the accents are all different. Even the line weight of the letters is designed to have natural variation but yet similar enough that the font appears as though it were written effortlessly in the same pen. And in order to keep the spacing consistent even though the letters have different widths, heights, lengths of descenders and so on, there are a vast number of kerning pairs, letter to letter, number to number, letter to number... All kerning has been individually assessed with an eye to proportionality taking in character shape, size and weight. For instance if you write a telephone number the numbers all sit close together but if you write a number before a letter such as in a UK post code or before a unit of measurement an extra little bit of space has been added which makes the number more distinct and therefore readable. That space is so natural to the eye that you don’t even know it is there. However even in the spacing allowance has been made for the fact it can’t be too perfect because when you write by hand the spacing is inconsistent. There have to be some letters which are too close or far apart otherwise the font would look artificial. For similar reasons if you are going to print out this font for a letter, etc, check the print version before you make any letter spacing changes because with the zoom functions in modern applications that uneven spacing and lettering can seem more pronounced than it actually is. When this font is printed out you will find it is surprisingly neat. This font is what it is, simple clear handwriting. You will not go wow. But if you want something unique and different and looks good on the page you won’t be disappointed. This font is not a work of art but it is a work of love. This font has a soul. How many fonts can you say that about?
