When Social Gothic first launched in 2007 as a basic single font, it became an instant branding and advertising favourite. It was used widely by a few major fashion outlets and department stores, then soared to new heights of exposure when it became the billboard-cause standard face for a few charity outfits and political organizations throughout Canada’s major urban centres. Social Gothic is a unicase font that combines standard sans serif elements with some distinct “wooden” shapes and oval lowercase components, to make for a totality that achieves a handmade look while maintaining a clean, legible, understated and easy message delivery. It is a gothic with quite a few humanist leanings, something seldom found in the sans serif genre. This retail Social Gothic family is the re-conceptualized, refined and optimized redux of the many bespoke versions that were commissioned and customized for various proprietary brands and projects over the years. The Camunic language is an extinct language that was spoken in the 1st millennium BC in the Valcamonica and the Valtellina in Northern Italy, both in the Central Alps. The language is sparsely attested to an extent that makes any classification attempt uncertain - even the discussion of whether it should be considered a pre–Indo-European or an Indo-European language has remained indecisive. Among several suggestions, it has been hypothesized that Camunic is related to the Raetic language from the Tyrsenian language family, or to the Celtic languages. The extant corpus is carved on rock. There are at least 170 known inscriptions, the majority of which are only a few words long. The writing system used is a variant of the north-Etruscan alphabet, known as the Camunian alphabet or alphabet of Sondrio. Longer inscriptions show that Camunic writing used boustrophedon. Its name derives from the people of the Camunni, who lived during the Iron Age in Valcamonica and were the creators of many of the stone carvings in the area. Abecedariums found in Nadro and Piancogno have been dated to between 500 BC and 50 AD. The amount of material is insufficient to fully decipher the language. Some scholars think it may be related to Raetic and to Etruscan, but it is considered premature to make such affiliation. Other scholars suggest that Camunic could be a Celtic or another unknown Indo-European language.

Grafista is an extrapolation on what fonts are used for: in spite of the possibility to use it for setting text, Grafista strives when used as a texture library, the same way that one would set up tiles. Thus, Grafista was built as two different things compiled in the same font: the letterforms (for setting text) and the texture library. Both of the sets are monospaced (with every glyph having the same width), but the letterforms are half of the texture tiles' width. On the tech side, the letterforms are 500/1000 UPMs, while the tiles are 1000/1000 UPMs.

The name of this type family is an homage to Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka.

This family was inspired by the two fonts used by the famous William Caxton in Westminster (UK) in the late 1400s. There is only one (Normal) style. We have added the accented characters and others not in use in the early time of printing, but the ligatures and the few abbreviations for the Old English language and Latin were present in the original fonts. The original cap height is about five to seven millimeters. Decorated letters like 1495 Lombardes, 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian, and 1584 Rinceau can be used in complement with this font without anachronism.

This font was originally meant to be my last creation of 2022, but as it turned out, it was the first font of 2023 instead! Why? Well, because it took me a lot of time to complete the 150 different swahes letter combinations, the 182 different letters (not counting numbers, accented characters etc) the small caps, the subscript and the multilingual support! Anyway, it was worth the work - the Frequent font works great as a display font, or whatever you have in mind. Play around with the different versions (Regular, Solid and Inside) for great results.

Edda Glaser’s digitized handwriting is a beautiful script containing many ligatures and alternates. The first lines were drawn in 2012 – however, there are now over 850 glyphs!
